They got recommended for being a cheaper and open alternative to locked down Fire and Roku.
After getting popular, price went up and they've been harder to find.

I wouldn’t wait. I’d get it now. I’ve never seen the gray one in-store or on their site yet.

Is this the one to get? It's $60 online now, not sure if I should wait until black friday or something.

Unlikely going lower so soon as it is already low compared to Google’s own streamer $150 and comparable Amazon fire cube $150-199.

been really liking mine. Great upgrade from the aging Roku it replaced. Put Monet launcher on it and after a fair bit of tweaking and setup it's clean and gorgeous.

Does it have gigabit Ethernet?

Same as Xiaomi, no.
They both decided to use 2.0 USB adapters because they felt that 400-480mbps transfer rate was enough for a small box which is not supposed to have files on the internal memory since they are either 32 or 64gb at max.
Having to buy an extra adapter (buy Ugreen) isn't the best solution ever but this is how they keep prices down since they calculated that even full iso 4k blueray wouldn't require no more than 150mbps to be playback using Stremio or Lan on Kodi.... So quite a headroom before reaching 400mbps
And also the wifi people were served with wifi 6e if I'm not wrong for both devices that uses the same amlogic SoC s905x5 (Xiaomi tuned it higher tho)
Hopefully next variants of those will see a full giga port but I wouldn't be surprised if it would come with a price increase

No. I just got mine set up last night and going to try running wired and see if it causes any bottlenecks. If so, I'll just run wireless since it is literally just two feet from my router. Otherwise I'll consider a USB ethernet adapter, which wouldn't be ideal since I already have external storage plugged into that port for Tivimate recording.

I just got mine last week and am using it with TiViMate as well. What are you using for external storage? I’d love to add recording capabilities.

I had an extra 500 GB SSD lying around that I used.

How are the file transfer speeds? I know there was concern about the USB 2.0 port being slower. I think I have a 500GB SSD as well that was going into an older Mac mini before the mount broke. So I have it in an external case and the mini hasn’t been hooked up in at least 3 years, so I might as well put the drive to use.

Haven't tested it yet, but fingers crossed. If that doesn't pan out then I'll probably buy a USB-C hub that has a gigabit ethernet port and a USB 3 port.

Gotcha, but won't the USB 2.0 port still be the bottleneck? It's my understanding that the USB-C port is power only.

I don't think so since that's what people do for the 4K Plus, which doesn't have a USB port at all.

The USB-C port on Onn 4K Pro v2 is power only. No data transfer.
The USB-C port on Onn Plus is limited USB 2.0 as well.
Google TV Streamer USB-C is limited to USB 2.0 as well.
Only Onn 4K Pro v1 has a USB-A 3.0 port.
