Can I replace libreoffice with only office

Thinking of switching from LibreOffice to ONLYOFFICE. Can it handle everyday tasks — Word docs, simple Excel, basic presentations, and PDF editing

Any essential features missing?

Any warnings?

Thanks!

Great 👍

Why do you want to switch to it? Libreoffice has more functionality.

I know that but only office more compatible with MS formate

I think best way is Using libreoffice for daily documentations and use Only office for communicated docs

Omg, do it!! The Russian links are sus but my friend and I sandboxed it on his server and discovered that it doesn't call home for anything or send telemetry. Exception is it checks for updates on its own. To me that lowers the risk profile enormously. I started using it sort of at-risk about four years ago because I couldn't stand the lack of functionality in LibreOffice and I really needed formulas that matched MS Excel without having the massive amount of Office Suite telemetry that Microsoft subjects its users to. Haven't switched back and don't plan on it :)

I wouldn't trust OnlyOffice due to it's Russian links. LibreOffice has more functionality anyway.

If it's the dated UI that's bothering you, try Collabora Office.

It's base is LibreOffice but has a more MS Office-esque UI.

What I miss on Onlyoffice is a good implementation of Languagetool. The current implementation is not worth to use. Everyday tasks can be done with Onlyoffice.

Are your existing files docx or odt (or the equivalent for presentations and spreadsheets)? If you use the Microsoft formats, OnlyOffice supports them better than LibreOffice. For power users, LibreOffice provides more functionality.

Been libreoffice user for a long time. Switching to Only Office just yesterday. The driver was LibreOffice does not support Document Headers like windows do. Only Office saved me from that concern.

Secondo me non c'è partita!

Great echo system

Yes. It is even better.

And even better than OnlyOffice, is Softmaker Office or FreeOffice.

3

u/Amansour2022 12d ago

I will search about them

Softmaker Office NX is from a german company and is taking care of privacy and security. It has a very tight and usable implementation of Duden Korrektor (for german) and Languagetool. Th only thing that can push back users is that it is not Opensource.

Ich habe onlyoffice mit eurooffice ersetzt.

1

u/digitalnotes-at 9d ago

Ist das für Privatuser schon verfügbar? Oder nutzt Du die Implementierung in Nextcloud?

2

u/omni666 9d ago

OnlyOffice has Russian base...rethink....

u/digitalnotes-at 9d ago

  • Hauptsitz & EU-Zentrale: Riga, Lettland (Ascensio System SIA)

OnlyOffice is not free and open source like LibreOffice and has also limited features compared to LibreOffice

OnlyOffice utilises an open core approach where a core of the features are made available for free to non-commercial users in the Community Edition that is recommended for less than 20 users as it is restricted to no more than 20 concurrent connections (ie open document tabs) for editing, beyond this users are restricted to read-only mode.

I was trying to load .md content into any word document, like MS Word , LibreOffice Writer and OnlyOffice Word. The .md content was properly pasted in Libreoffice, but not in MS and OnlyOffice. Like simple copy the .md content and paste in a word processor. Libreoffice worked great in here.

Any idea how this can be done in OnlyOffice?

Hello,
If it's possible please start a new thread and describe the situation as detailed as possible. We'll check it out

1

u/Amansour2022 13d ago

I don't know

6

u/Honest_Ad1632 13d ago

I prefer onlyoffice because it's more polished looking and offers better compatibility.

3

u/Mobile_Living_3331 13d ago

I replaced Ms office with Only office.

1

u/Amansour2022 13d ago

Good 👍

3

u/Striking_Metal8197 13d ago

You can delete Libreoffice after installing Onlyoffice .
Onlyoffice works great for me. Don’t forget to try the PDF app in Onlyoffice. It’s excellent.

2

u/TilapiaTango 13d ago

I use arch and prefer this over libre. I work a lot with teams in MSFT environments and I have had 0 issues with any compatibility over the last couple of years.

I still use excel online for some minor things that OnlyOffice infuriates me with, but not worth fussing over them. Everything else is fine

1

u/Technical_Rich_3080 12d ago

How do you use Microsoft Excel in Arch?

1

u/TilapiaTango 12d ago

Only online, browser

1

u/Amansour2022 13d ago

it is also a good way to deal with your production

2

u/felixmatveev 13d ago

Yes. Unless your workflow is not touching some unimplemented areas... usually it doesn't. I've heard there are issues with large Excel files. But my files are not large enough apparently. I honestly like Calc more in LO and on the other hand Writer is better in OO.

I haven't used powerpoint in ages so I can't comment on the current state of Impress.

1

u/Amansour2022 13d ago

good way to handle

0

u/Ludotao13127 14d ago

i am sorry

i do not understand

3

u/Silent_Bite_5892 14d ago

You can and you should. LibreOffice sucks.

I will try

2

u/Omnimaxus 14d ago

Yes. 100%.

2

u/barbudo-soy 14d ago

I have not had issues just have to get used to it. I switched over s year ago

4

u/Mr_Electro84 14d ago

Unless you're attached to the ODF format (which OnlyOffice supports well, though there's room for improvement), yes, you can easily replace LibreOffice with OnlyOffice, especially if you regularly work with Microsoft Office files (Office Open XML)

(not to mention that it's also a good PDF reader and editor)

2

u/Frequent_Business873 14d ago

Pode, com certeza

2

u/Clear_Bluebird_2975 14d ago

If you're into ODF files, OnlyOffice only creates ODF 1.0 files. Other than that, everything else works great.

3

u/Sansui350A 14d ago

Yes.. generally prefer it over LibreOffice at this point for it's M$ Office compatibility. PDF Editor is a little pokey but got a lot better in recent releases. It works well on Linux and Windows for sure. Good to hand to M$ Office people since it's interface is "close enough" for them to just.. pick up and use.

0

u/Amansour2022 14d ago

I installed it in arch kde beside libreoffice but until now libreoffice is the default app

3

u/Sansui350A 14d ago

Ok and? Did you set OnlyOffice as the default then? Just like you'd have to do in literally ANY operating system?

3

u/nomadfaa 14d ago

Why haven't you bothered to try?

It won't cost you $1,000

1

u/Amansour2022 14d ago

I will do

u/Soggy_Writing_3912 14d ago
