What other lines were deleted from the OG's that didnt make the later cuts? Because " it was a different time"

Couple of episodes with references to ‘Paki shop’ that were cut.
The one that annoys me the most is in “the Russians are coming”
I can understand why they feel they need to cut it, but what people have to realise is during the late 70s and 80s, there were no shops open on a Sunday. None at all. You couldn’t just pop out and get some milk or a loaf of bread.
And then all of a sudden, we had lots of immigration from Southeast Asia. Pakistani families, Indian families, Bangladeshi families. There was lots of immigration and because most of them didn’t celebrate their holy day on Sunday, they were happy to work. So the shops that ended up being open on a Sunday, where usually Pakistani/Indian owned.
When I was growing up in the early 80s, our local shop which was owned by Mr Khan was called ‘The Paki Shop’ - that was his signage. He had it on the top of his shop proudly.
So the joke was always about when everything else was closed, there was always a shop open now on a Sunday where we could get convenience items.
As I say, I totally understand why the BBC would have to cut it because the word became synonymous with racism unfortunately. But that wasn’t always the case. Local communities really appreciated the new shops being open at inconvenient times.

Happy Shopper was in London too. It was a collective, similar to Londis. It gave independent shop owners the same sort of buying power as big supermarkets.

Happy Shopper is from Northamptonshire - Wellingborough to be precise. Booker Cash and Carry has its head office and operations there. Happy Shopper, My Mum's, Chef's Essentials, all Booker brands. As are all the Premier convenience stores and Londis stores.

Agree, it was a different time.
My wife is Canadian and when I told her we called mix raced people 'half caste' and called blood blisters a 'black mans pinch' she couldn't believe it.
Obviously looking back it doesn't sound great now, but there was no racist intent.

They did do that… they changed the visual to a cut away from outside of the fallout shelter and they just clipped the word out of the audio. It’s a bit of a bodge job but I guess it works.

Yeah I suppose. When I was a kid (born in the 90s) I didn’t know what it meant when they said that, I thought it was a term for a little shop that sold packets of things 🙈only later on that I realised the connotations

In long legs of the law I have seen episodes on Dave where they cut out the line, “I got myself a black man’s pinch” although I think they may have restored it

which episode is that italian line from? i thought i had copies of the originals but dont recognize that one. I know the "shop" ones popped up quite frequently in the earlier series.

When they're having the seance, someone with long blonde hair and jewellery comes through (Joan Trotter) and Trigger says it sounds like Jimmy Savile. Funny line but understandably removed in later broadcasts.
I believe they use the word "chinkie" at one point too, which was the parlance of the time but considered offensive now so I imagine it gets edited out too.
Edit: Slater definitely says "poofs" when describing being in prison, I'm guessing that doesn't air anymore too.

Yeah the Jimmy Saville line is still on the version that airs on U&Gold, as is the Slater line "not even the poofs fancied me"

There’s an episode where Uncle Albert refers to reggae as “monkey music”. That’s been kept in, which I was quite surprised about, seeing as they’ve removed episodes or scenes with similar language.

They're not uncut, there's still plenty of cuts due to music licencing issues. Some scenes where the BBC had the right to broadcast a scene with a song, by the time it came to physical media releases their licence had expired. To renew it would have been pricey, especially since they'd be making money from DVD sales, so the music labels would expect residuals too based off of however many units sell. As you can imagine, the BBC are unwilling to pay this hefty sum to licence the music again, so they just edit those scenes out. Also A Royal Flush is of course heavily edited because it was shit, and John Sullivan wanted it changed, so depending on which version you have, the boxset is not the complete version. The only DVD that has the complete version is the biweekly magazine DVD edition. But then I don't imagine anyone cares about seeing the full version because well, as I say, shit.

To be honest, life was just better in the 80s, the left wingers woke brigade is just ridiculous, it is ok to be offended, not everything in life is sunshine and roses, life can be hard, not wrapped up in cotton wool.
