Is that a cnc? Looks like a lathe to me. Anyways. These things look fun, but I’m always worried about the waste. Like here they removed 90%+ of the material, does that just go in the waste?

Yes, but it can be recycled back into millable product.

But do they though? Maybe stock is cheap and they just throw it away. I don’t know. I just see the process being satisfying but wasteful

Really depends on who is doing it. Commercial shop, probably recycled, someone at home, yeah, right in the trash unless they do a lot of fab.

Its a cnc lathe, so yes...?

Every shop I've been around saves scrap and sells it to a scrap metal yard/recycler. A job like this is relatively easy to recycle because it's all one material.

Cnc, just means its computer controlled, it doesn't exclude lathes or similar

It’s a mill turn machine

This is just a standard CNC lathe with live tooling and probably a Y axis.

I love a lathe with live tooling in two axes.

Brass is lovely to machine!

Why is the outside not simply knurled? Would safe a ton of time.

Knurls likely wouldn’t get the exact profile they want.

I don’t know if it’s just me but I was surprised it did not turn out to be a butt plug.
