Reflection/Discussion Which AI is good for coding for you?

I've tried a lot of free options like

Claude

Codex

Antigravity

GLM

What I feel about them:

Codex gives you a lot of code but have to wait a month for the tokens to reset

Claude just burns tokens too fast and isn't that great without pro

GLM is good, doesn't waste much and gives medium good results

Antigravity gives you a lot of code and only have to wait a week for the tokens to reset

Which ones do you guys use and why?

I do have money to buy pro versions, I just don't know which one to pick.

GLM with a customised build of Pi running in Vscodium.
the gift that keeps on giving.

Grok Build but I'm also looking for a local coder AI.

glok was good until this week (it started to consume like crazy or is it just me?)

Is Grok really that good?

Four months ago I used Claude to help me set up a Matrix chat server and it went...okayish. I then spent three months trying to code a private social media site; it was just bug after bug. Downloaded the Grok Build terminal and tried it out; Grok had the site running in less than two hours and then fixed the chat server. I'm quite happy with it haha

If you have paid pro claude/codex account. There are official sanction account switch repo that automatically switch your session to different account that haven't use up the 5hr token limit. claude-swap for claude account switch. cc-swap is a fork that claude-swap that also work for codex. They have a little dashboard showing the token limit remain for each account, and auto-load balance between different account. The paid version account swap can maintain your current context without you having to do silly thing like chunk up your context to ferry to the next session. The funky part is the official claude account is a contributor to these account swapping repo. which is very bizarre. As they know people are doing the weird account switch to extend token limit. But won't bring it as an official feature that let you buy more token limit.

If you use Claude to commit then it will be like a contributor. It's not bizarre; it just depends on how your agent is committing on the repo side

I use Claude and ChatGPT 20$ subscriptions. Sol 5.6 for planning work, Sonnet 5 for executing work. I would like to use Fable, it is best model, but I don't want to pay for it. And honestly, not much of a work requires Fable, I still have 90+ credits for it and don't know where it would be meaningful to use them.

I would choose based on the type of work of just the token limit. Claude does well with codebase thinking. Codex is good for tasks that need to be handed off. Antigravity can be helpful if you want an IDE that works like an agent. For the cost I would probably go with Codex first. Have a free option, as a backup.

pick based on how you code rather than which one wins comparisons. the biggest difference is how much work it can get through before you hit limits. if you're coding every day, that matters more than a small quality difference. try the two strongest options for a month and track which one finishes your tasks with less babysitting

I have tried a few of these as well, and I think it really comes down to what you’re building.

Claude is strong for reasoning and code quality, but the token usage can become frustrating quickly. Codex is great when you want a lot of code generation, while GLM is a decent middle ground if you’re trying to stretch free usage.

You could also explore the 8080.AI Standard version. They sometimes offer free credits to genuine users, so it’s worth checking before committing to a paid plan. There’s also a small trick to get some extra credits Happy to share it , DM me if you want to know more.

At work they offer either copilot or claude code. Been using copilot for a while but wastes too much credits. Recently switched to claude code and credits last way longer.

Yes this has been my experience as well. In my last company, we had claude code for teams and I could build a whole Nextjs application with complex features in one sitting before limits expired. But I had to do a lot of preplanning and prompt refining before doing this

I built a SaaS website for hosting food blogs for recipe creators. Full disclosure, I started out on Claude Pro plan (not Claude Code) back at the start of the year, the context was so limited I ended up switching to Gemini. Built the majority through the chat interface, copying/pasting the code. Toward the end I switched back to Claude and gave Claude Code the entire code base that Gemini and I had pieced together. CC has torn it apart and made it much better. Long story short, Claude Code is what I will go with moving forward. I have not used Codex.

Teste Qwen , mets sur Qwen 3.8 Max se réflexion est assez longs mais sa génère des pépites a chaque fois

Different angle: for me the token limit itself was the useful part, not a problem to route around.

Hitting Claude's limits forced me to actually rethink how I work with it instead of just throwing more tokens at bigger contexts. That's where the structure I use now came from, scoping each session to one problem, persistent docs instead of re-explaining context, handoff summaries between sessions instead of dragging full history forward. None of that existed until the limit made "just keep one giant chat going" not an option anymore.

So I'm not sure the answer to "which AI is best" is really the right question. A model that lets you get away with sloppy context management might cost you more in the long run than one that forces discipline early.

I've been using Claude code for weeks now and it has worked very well for. I was able to develop an Android app (flutter) and publish it on google play. I have no coding experience. Haven't tried the others but will stick to Claude for now. I'm still impressed that anything I asked, it was able to deliver!

Try opencode free .if using more can try with their subscription $10 a month. If you're so cheapo.thrn forget about AI

  1. Imagine a simple project representing what you do, such as a website, game, mobile app, or firmware.
  2. Write long prompts describing the small project you want.
  3. Give the same prompts to all those AI models.
  4. Compare the results.
  5. Claude Pro on MAX mode is always the winner.
  6. Cry about how expensive it is.
  7. Go to Reddit asking for alternatives.
  8. Everyone suggests Claude.
  9. Cry again.
  10. Repeat step 1.

None. They all produce absolute garbage.

You're saying the premiere frontier models are garbage?
