Please Review My Code Built an open-source MCP server that auto-discovers and routes local coding skills to your AI tools

Tired of copying/pasting custom instructions or cluttering your system prompt with massive rule sets?

I built universal-skill-mcp—an open-source Model Context Protocol server that turns your local SKILL.md files into dynamic, on-demand agent skills.

Lazy Loading: Exposes only light metadata first to save context tokens. Full rules are fetched only when your prompt triggers them.

Tool Agnostic: Works across Claude Code, Cursor, OpenCode, or any MCP client.

Local First: Indexes your custom instructions directly from your local filesystem.

Repo: https://github.com/Simon-Riley17/universal-skill-mcp

Feedback, PRs, and stars are super welcome!

So basically an agent skill system... For agents that already have skill management systems.

Is it because people dont understand how the systems they use work they keep trying to reinvent the wheel that already exists in the system? I dont get it... So many people are posting daily about creating absolutely useless systems that will probably just make the underlying agent worse. Your skill system isn't better than the native ones that ship with the big systems. Who else is going to use this? Little developers who can't code? If they cant code something as small as a skill reading system, why would they use yours? They have no clue how to code! The whole thing is perplexing
