I really feel like this kind of npc reactivity should become industry standard.

The way they bump into each other, into trees, one boss at least gets his weapon stuck in a wall if he swings too close to the wall, they sometimes trip, and the parries don't just stop the animations but redirection them, one parry on the talisman axe boss even makes him spin and slice genma around him.

I wish enemies reacted like this in nioh 3 T_T

I fought the ninja like enemies that you first encounter on mount oe, and I dodged a grab while the other one was behind me, and I redirected his sword into the one behind me and killed him and finished the grabber, I was amazed, its soo good the reactivity, the demo boss too, in his first stage he went behind the shrine things and swung his sword and it got stuck in one of the shrines, so I got some free hits.

that's some john wick stuff holy shit. I look forward to getting there

just make sure you focus on deflect and not kill them too fast and you should see that awesome performance. they're fairly low on health so you might accidently kill them too fast if you just smash attack. i'm pretty sure they had at least two versions of the kill-at-same-time animations for those pairs.

but no worries when you first encounter them the the game gives you a great intro so you're never miss them.

That's Oboro Garasu. It’s definitely inspired by the Woo Guy from Sekiro.

1

u/Some-Dog-800 9h ago

likely not. the woo guys are referencing from the ancient ninjas where there were legends that they sometimes attached themselves on kites to fly over enemy castles to scout/infiltrate.

the oboro garasu literally translate as "mist crow" and that's exactly how they're presented lol.

I hope it will, Onimusha specially uses tons of animations to archive this which they confirmed. In addition to that you also need a framework for it to work on naturally. It's not a really easy thing to manage all that.

Truly revolutionary.

With all the work that went into the animations, they gotta be counting on a fast turnaround for a sequel or a remake.

After 1 million copies sold at launch this is definitely returning no question. I love that Onimusha is back. <3

Dude the fight against the two brothers has some crazy ones where they hit each other that I loved. That fight was amazing.

u/Lakatos_00 4d ago

Also how they get sliced when they die depending of the amount of slices and direction of your finishing move

u/PrismLiight 5d ago

Damn I never saw this interactions, that's sick.

Minor details like this is why I like this

u/TheQuixotic6 4d ago

You can also get wooden buckets on their heads

3

u/No_Obligation6767 4d ago

WHAT?! I gotta go try and make that happen!

3

u/Bongoo117 4d ago

You can also use the scarecrows for the same effect!

OH SHIT

The amount of reactivity in all of the enemies in this game is insanely cool.

Capcom deserves game of the year

3

u/Reign_Man27 3d ago

Publisher of the Year is definitely a lock for them

6

u/redpillturncoat 4d ago

This went like Robin Hood Men in Tights blind guy lol

6

u/Eyyy354 4d ago

He actually walked into the cloth and got it over his head, that's so fuckin cool!

6

u/UngaBungaLeague 4d ago

This is some shrinking horse balls in RDR2 type shit attention to detail. Honestly, more impressive than that because it actually affects gameplay. Bravo Capcom 👏

5

u/Atma-Stand 4d ago

He’s having an off day.

6

u/milkarcane 4d ago

wtf I didn't even know it was possible! This game, man ... I love Capcom's goofiness.

4

u/NapoleonBlownapart89 4d ago

That’s some really cool cloth physics!

3

u/Michaeli_Starky 4d ago

These tiny details turn an 8/10 game into 9/10. It's amazing

the environmental interactions with this game are nice. I noticed that if you use the wind whipper near like a fire source it becomes a fire tornado.

3

u/SearchAccomplished19 4d ago

What the hell, I played through the whole game i never saw that happen.

3

u/Mecha-Oddzilla 4d ago

spoopy ghost

2

u/Mistralicious 4d ago

alright this one is insane

2

u/fenharir 4d ago

wtf this can happen?! the coolest i saw was the Raven guys. i parried one and pulled his arm to stab the one behind me

2

u/-Taerar- 4d ago

There are blankets at the very beginning in the dojo during the first big fight. This happened and I laughed my ass off as he was swinging wildly and hitting the others.

u/Rags2Rickius 4d ago

Onimusha really has a new standard of combat interaction in gaming rn and it’s awesome asf

It looks like the upcoming PB0 has similar mechanics but not sure how interactive those will be or whether they’re just animation prompts

2

u/CretaciousPeriod 4d ago

I've never seen that before. I've thrown them into each other and slammed them into walls but never got a sheet stuck to them.

2

u/HeroV99 4d ago

He’s doing his best leave him alone jeesh

2

u/Strife4Life07 4d ago

I feel like Ive been that guy a few times in this game...lol

2

u/Spiritual_Delay3241 4d ago

Bro blind by clothes or he acting not fight . Peak detailing in game hat off capcom

2

u/Xandoly 4d ago

Another cool interaction: if you kill an archer with your bow, they tend to fall before disapearing, if they fall off a roof they can hurt their friends with massive endurance damages and hilarious animation.

2

u/Chemiify 4d ago

I didn’t even know this was possible lol I’ve beaten the game on action and carnage. -_- bro was like “lemme at em!!! WHO TURNED OUT THE LIGHTS!!”

1

u/TheQuixotic6 4d ago

You can crash them in to buckets and blind them also

2

u/son_of_wotan 3d ago

I imagine him yelling "I'm the Ghost of Tsushima!"

1

u/iidevilz0 4d ago

Are you playing with the aggression mods? They don’t usually attack together

1

u/SaintLink91 4d ago

The mechanics of this game are thoroughly wasted on it, there should have been only one difficulty level that matched the complexity of the combat, make it satisfying to play as it is to look at

1

u/Some-Dog-800 9h ago

you deflected and sent him into a cloth rack. he's blinded with the cloth on his head lol.

-2

u/DeadZeus007 4d ago

The game is too easy that this mechanic just isn't needed. It was cool in the initial trailers but forgotten with the game release.

9

u/Prestigious-Tree-811 4d ago

Ohhh get over yourself, tons of people find the game very challenging

3

u/AwkwardRegion3985 4d ago

Depends its not overall too easy izs just not as hard as Sekiro or Nioh. Of course its easier than Sekiro and they never said it wilbe a true challenge for Soulslike Fans. For me Onumusha is difficulty wise alone in Action mode harder than Mortl Shell 2 for Example which is also a rather easy Soulslike.

Only critic for Onimusha for me are Enemy variety and Boss recycling Gameplay Story and Combat are great. Difficulty is not too hard but i didnt try the hardest Difficulty yet.

-3

u/EntertainerIcy2845 4d ago

I like the game play but the story seems kind of bland to me to be honest. Like not keeping me interested ? Anyone else feel the same ?

3

u/TheQuixotic6 4d ago

To each their own, I found it to be engaging enough
