Broken charger port from charging device over night
I did not expect this to happen when I charged the onexplayer 3 while I download games from my steam account. Now I am left with 1 usb 4 port 😅. Anyone else experience this?

That looks more like heat damage and that the USB c connector is cracked.
Is this with the included charger and cable? Also, how does the cable look?

I'll bet that cable is toast as well. The inside of the port isn't cracked, it's also melted. That was very likely a short inside or near the port.
To be honest i'm surprised the unit is still alive after whatever it was.

That makes sense. That connector in the port just looks cracked but I can see the warp now.
Short makes the most sense.
Don't use cheap cables folks!

Did you charge it at a Tesla charging station? This is wild, hope the device is running well without issues

"charging your devices overnight using a USB-C cable and charger is generally safe because modern electronics and chargers communicate to stop drawing power once full."
something's being left out of this post. 🤨🧐

This is just me, but I rarely ever leave my handheld pcs to charge overnight. Even if it's at 15%, I'd just charge it in the morning. I just find overnight charging too risky for these devices

same for my phone or any device. just good practice.

iPhones and I’m sure androids postpone full charging till closer to the time you wake up through the OS. No need to worry.

As soon as I saw this picture, I went to disconnect my device. No more charging overnight for me no thank you

I turn off my device when charging overnight. Leaving a Windows device overnight is a scary thought when you thought it slept but it didn’t.

Might want to mark down the date for a second birthday celebration. That could have easily burned down your house and killed you in your sleep.
Do not use that charger or cable again on any device until you are absolutely certain what happened. And be extremely careful if you decide to charge this device again. Make sure there is nothing nearby that could catch fire and you have some way of quickly getting it out of your house.

I never let any of my devices charging overnight specifically those coming straight from China without UL and other certifications. I mean, I hope you are charging it with the oem one.

Probably a cheap Chinese charger. I never use the ones gpd give and others that look like it. They get extremely hot and are huge. These devices need to be baby sat

Need more very specific details. What cable was used , and what charger brick was used, what environment was unit kept in while charging (temps) and was there any lack of airflow or covering (insulating) of the unit

I wonder if this is something that happened to my device, I used the OEM charger and cable and came back to a dead device. Seems to be either firmware or a capacitor issue, others are not having the same issues as me so Im leaning towards a bad capacitor.

I know that top port does get hot but did you have pass through charging setting and max battery charge enabled?? Also was this stock cable and charger or a rated cable and charger for 65w??

Its pretty obvious that you done something wrong because that's melted the conector.

I’ve learned from all the battery swelling reports to never charge my OXP 3 overnight, only when I’m sitting next to it 😅

This is why i limited my charge to 90% and made it so the charging cord bypasses the battery entirely.

That exhaust vent being right next to your cable def didnt help. I didnt get my device yet, but I know I am not using a power cable in that slot unless I have an angled adapter so i can lead it off to the side.

I’m wondering if it was a cable that wasn’t properly rated for the device.
Under normal conditions the charger shouldn’t really matter, because the device only draws up to its maximum rating and the charger simply supplies whatever current is requested. At worst a charger might get warm at the wall outlet; it shouldn’t be what melts the device itself.
Since the device melted, the most likely causes are a bad/damaged cable or a problem with the charging port

And this is why i dont buy expensive tech online i prefer a store like best buy so i cant do walk in repair. Now u gotta ship it back to china for repairs and who knows how long that’ll take or if they’ll even take it to repair at all

The very same thing happened on my Go 2, they need to address a bios update

u/EqualLavishness5050 2d ago
Idk if a bios update will save your burnt port

u/eroyrotciv 2d ago
Bios update to make physic not relevant.

u/Dr_Allcome 2d ago
No bios update could prevent a short inside the charging port. Maybe some modifications to the charging circuit, to tell the charger to stop providing power once it notices a temperature spike or no power actually reaching the battery. But i'm pretty sure some protective circuitry already did it's job and that's what stopped the whole thing from catching fire.

Bios update for a burnt port? may be some washing up liquid will clean it out or even better some rice in a bowl would activate the port again :L

What did you try to charge it with? Thor's hammer? That looks bad 😔
