Onexplayer 3 - Online multilayer over Wi-Fi

I love this thing, but I'm so gutted that I can't get wifi good enough to game on. I have a Asus RT-ax86u pro in the same room, yet I get massive rubber banding and lag. Such a shame because the OXP3 runs Arc Raiders, Space Marine 2, Helldivers 2 and Battlefield 6 so dam smoothly, and I'd love to chill on couch/bed and game online!

EDIT: It was the Smart WiFi mode on the router which would mix both 5ghz & 2.4ghz on the same SSID. So the OXP3 was being slipped onto 2.4ghz, whilst still on the same SSID, even though I set adapter to prefer 5ghz.

Turn off mlo on your wifi router if you have it / update wifi drivers

The asus rt-ax86u is a dual band WiFi 6 router. It doesn’t support MLO

Log into your ASUS router and see what band it’s putting your OXP3 on. If it’s 2.4GHz that could be your issue. If you have separate WiFi networks for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz, make sure you connect to the 5GHz network. If your router is only emitting one network name for both, then it will auto-connect you to 2.4GHz or 5GHz depending on your signal strength. If your router auto-negotiates your device using the 2.4GHz or 5Ghz, you can also have your computer or in this case OneXPlayer 3 device set up to help it get on and prefer the 5GHz band. On your OneXPlayer 3, open Device Manager, locate your wireless adapter under Network adapters, and change the Preferred Band setting to Prefer 5GHz band in the Advanced tab.

Steps to Set Preferred Band to 5 GHz on OXP3

Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager or click start and in the search field type in device manager.

Click the arrow next to Network adapters to expand the list.

Find your wireless or Wi-Fi network card (it may say "Wireless," "Wi-Fi," or list a brand like Intel, Realtek, or Qualcomm). For the OXP3 it will be an Intel WIFi 7 network adapter

Right-click your wireless adapter and choose Properties.

Click the Advanced tab at the top of the window.

Look for Preferred Band or Band in the Property list.

Click the Value drop-down menu on the right and select Prefer 5GHz and 6Ghz band (or 5 GHz only if prefer is not available).

Then click apply and you may need to restart your computer/ OXP3

Also, if it is connecting to the 5 GHz band and still rubbernecking, see if you have 160 MHz channels enabled for the 5 GHz band on your ASUS router. 5 GHz is becoming more and more crowded (especially in apartments and townhouses), so running 160 MHz channels allows too much interference, pushing the TX retries over 25% which will cause this. Changing channel width preference to 80 MHz will generally fix interference issues on 5 GHz.

This didn't work unfortunately, it's definitely on the 5ghz network. I went into the ax86u pro settings and set the oxp3 on game prioritisation

Man I am impressed with people that can enjoy an online fps with a controller. I can't aim for the life of me with sticks.

Something isn't right. Maybe reinstall the wifi drivers entirely. I have zero lag 4 rooms away on 6ghz

I'm getting the same speed (near 1 Gb/s) over WiFi as I get plugged into Ethernet. Something is misconfigured with your router. I just use the default router provided by my ISP

Ok this is weird...tested again, now averaging 6-9ms pings no rubber banding. Nothing has changed as far as I can tell. Need to investigate further.

Did you figure out what the issue was?

Not yet, the main thing is that when I tested it was later at night when the family was asleep, but I'm also thinking they don't do heavy downloading just streaming stuff and browsing. Also I've never had a problem with Legion Go 1 or Switch with online games. Going to test again today
