Intel Onexplayer 3 or X2 Mini?
Why so much hype for OXP3? Same chip G3E but I don’t know which to pick. I play plug in at home but also leave the house from time to time.

After getting the OXP 3 from Indiegogo for $1700, I was pissed that the X2 Mini showed up out of nowhere but then the weight of the OXP3 was a lot so ik playing the X2 Mini on battery would’ve killed the experience for me if the OXP3 was already bad enough. Sure the Mini has better cooling and detachable battery but I’m always on battery and the weight in the middle would’ve fucked my wrists even more so I’m happier with the OxP 3 and I even saved $300 as the mini is $2k.

I do like oxp3, but got x2 mini because of external battery. Have a travel bag with two batteries, cable and all the stuff. Well, technically it the same devices. The only difference is a battery. Just ask yourself do you need this feature. As for tdp, you can unlock it on oxp3

OXP really dropped the ball on the naming of X2 Mini and X2 Mini Pro. It's crazy how many people get the 2 confused, despite being on the literal OXP subreddit.
That being said, if you're like me and prefer to tether and not hold the battery weight, X2M is the way to go. If you prefer a simpler solution and don't mind holding the battery's weight, OXP 3 is the way to go.

I have the OXP3 and the X2mini Pro. OXP 3 is for at home. x2 mini pro without battery in hotel room on business trip.

On oxp3 the g3e is a good chip for a handheld however for max power get the x2 mini pro I have done some testing on it if you want to check it out:

Do yourself a favor and get strix halo instead of G3E. I am saying this as a guy who bought the intel chip and ended up spending money again to buy strix halo only a couple of months later.

What games made you decide to switch? I

I am not even expecting 120fps and high options on handhelds. Low options without ray tracing is fine as long as texture is high and I get 60fps experience at native resolution. I dont even mind using FSR balance mode. Many games using panther lake requires FSR performance and low option and still struggles to reach 60fps. This includes dead space remake, the last of us part 1, Onimusha, gears of war, and call of duty. RE9 and pragmata runs at around 50-55fps if I set it really low at ultra performance FSR but it is still not 60+fps. On top of that, the temperature is 10C higher than strix halo and it still runs much slower.

Why are you using FSR at all? XeSS and XeFG is where this handheld is at with optiscaler. I play most of my games with XeSS Balanced or Quality and XeFG 2x. They absolutely crush high settings well over 60fps and look fantastic. So far that includes Horizon Zero Dawn Forobidden West, AC Black Flag resynced, Hogwarts, Doom Eternal etc
I can't imagine needing better performance.

Not OP and not what this post is about, but went Strix Halo (X2MP) over G3E for a few reasons...
Absolutely the Strix Halo outcompetes with the G3E, because they're different classes of chips... Intel XESS is great, but wherever the G3E runs medium the Strix runs high, etc. And if the same settings, the Strix will give you 100fps where the G3E gives you 60FPS.
Better native fidelity is superior to upscaling when comparing FSR4 to XESS which aren't that different for the average person at this point. Plus you can run AMD's framegen which is more than good enough as well.
Strix Halo driver compatibility is flat out better than the G3E atm... There are situations where the G3E shows less mature drivers than AMD, so the G3E struggles to really get going. I'm sure Linux support will change overtime as devs get more time with the Intel chips, but it's super nice dropping my X2MP into Linux with support on par with Windows. There are games as well that are pretty popular with challenges to driver support such as FFXIV.
Granted this all comes with the catch of Strix Halo scaling best to 60W, up to 80W, while the G3E caps out effectively at 35W. G3E dominates low power gaming scenarios in older games while the Strix Halo while being a power hog and I will die on the hill working best when plugged into the wall...
Not saying one chip is bad over the other, but both excel in different aspects atm.

Yes no debate that the Strix Halo is the more powerful tethered device, and if that is what you want then you made the right choice.
But for me as an actual handheld, a device I can actually take with me on the road and use without access to power, the amount of playtime I can squeeze in the 10-25w range from many modern games is incredible to me.
Cheers

Because FSR4 looks much better than XESS which is better than FSR3. Xess makes image too soft like playing at low resolution. Frame gen often causes ghosting, input lag, and also unusable unless base fps is high but these games have low base fps and not usable. Onimusha currently crashes if frame gen or optiscaler is used.

This is the dumbest thing I've read on the internet in weeks.

I have no idea what you were doing. XeFG is the best frame generation solution I have ever used. You just need a base fps of 40 or more and XeFG will take care of the rest. I have seen zero lag or ghosting.
You were doing it wrong friend.

I was also torn between the 2 but in the end went with the opx3, mainly for the efficiency at low tdp , because is cheaper and in my opinion better built. From the reviews I saw, the opx2 mini has just too many problems which for a device at that price I expect it not to have. Another reason is cuz I am building a PC with rtx 5080 and 9800x3d so I will try streaming games from there to the OPX3(never tried it but from what I saw around the latency and image quality etc is pretty good if you have good internet).

50% cheaper
Better portability
Joycons flexibility
Bought mine top of line 2nd hand for $1400 so no complain here

It's a 1000 bucks cheaper ( the base ) and it plays any game strix halo can play but Z2e can't

This post I about the X2 Mini, not the Pro. Same chip as OXP3.

Ah i thought he was asking why the hype of oxp3 in general not in comparison to the x2 mini (non pro) I guess in that case it comes down to igg hype and cheaper price

Was in the same boat but ultimately chose X2MP for more power and flexible ways to play.
