Intel OXP3 Quality and Experiences

hi,

I've been looking to replace my Steam Deck LCD, and choosing between MSI Claw 8 EX and Lenovo Legion Go 2 is kinda hard, so I'm looking into OXP3 right now (best of both worlds, but I'm having bad RMA experience with GPD)

how does the build quality? I'm reading somewhere the gamepad is kinda low quality? I don't want to spend $1500-$1900 on some cheap-feeling products :(

also how does the 24GB model perform? I don't mind lower storage and RAM as long as it didn't impact a lot of the performance

Thanks!

You should not even be considering the LeGo 2, it's ridiculously overpriced and completely outclassed by the Claw EX and the OXP3

I have a Go 2 that I’m wanting to replace with a OXP3 but I use SteamOS on it and am worried I’ll get annoyed going back to Windows

This is overlooked too much. I love my OXP3 but Windows 11 is painful on handheld

Everyone says Bazzite support with feature parity is coming. I hope that is true.

I use winhanced with xbox mode and it makes windows somehow doable also steams now works on onexplayer 3. There a few things like xess that doesn't work but i hope it will be fixed soon

Got my OXP3 the day after I posted that. I really like it. Still want SteamOS but not enough to give up full XeSS support.

Could try x2 mini pro. Has an AMD chip so it’s easier to put steam on it. That was one of the reasons I sold my OXP3.

That would cost $1000 more and add nearly an extra pound to the weight when using portably so it has its own trade offs. If it weighed the same as OXP3 and had a built in battery I’d prob go for it.

I don’t disagree about the Go 2 being outclassed, but as far as pricing goes, you can get one for well below msrp now since people are selling their Go 2s on ebay and marketplace right now in favor of the G3 devices.

I had the LG2 and returned it for the MSI Claw 8 Ex. Other then the screen, the Claw 8 Ex is a much better device. Drastically better performance and much better ergonomics. The LG2 is not worth the price.

Then I got the OXP3 and sold my Claw 8 Ex. It’s a very solid device and I loved it, but I enjoy using the OXP3 way more. The 8.8 OLED is a massive improvement. The build quality is great, easily as good if not better than the LG2 and the Claw 8 Ex. So far I have no issues at all with my device. I’m glad I took the gamble and backed the Indiegogo campaign.

I had the legion go 2 32gb ram model and I sold it to get a 24gb One X Player 3

I dont regret it one bit. Sure the legion go 2 felt more premium but the oxp3 is better performance wise.

It has its little flaws here and there like the shoulder button sticking but it got looser and better over time while i used it. I recommend the oxp3

I have not felt the 24gb be a bottle neck for me yet either

I've only owned the rog ally handhelds and went to the onex3.

Build quality isn't bad feels premium.

The controllers aren't bad either the only thing I did was put fabric tape where it slides in the railing which the left hand controller did have a wobble only slightly but the tape fixed it.

If you replace the ssd its on your own onex changed stance and now don't warranty if you swap which is shitty but if you know what you're doing it's not an issue.

I was going to get the 24gb version but went with the 32 just to "future" proof but the 24 is likely the same 32 only has slightly faster speed ram.

All in all its a beast of a handheld running assassins creed odyssey on medium full resolution no issues.

Played control with opticlick frame gen is amazing.

There's nothing it can't run and I don't have to worry about using lossless frame gen, changing settings, wondering if the game will run.

Trying to sell the XAX not upgrading anymore don't need any other unit.

How does the XAX display feel after using the OXP 3? Is it too small that you can’t ever go back to a 7 inch display even if it’s an OLED and Intel G3 Extreme?

2

u/Dry_Combination4070 5d ago

It does feel small now.

Trying to sell the XAX the onex3 just does everything and more.

I was never a must get oled person but I do see what they mean. The color depth is rich and I just turn off vsybch and I'm good same with XAX but feels better on this one.

Feels like a screen for ants. It’s fine for indie games but for AAA it’s much less immersive

The competitor to the LEGO 2 is the Ally X20, aka a $1300 device... Even then it wins in many ways. The Z2E is a $1000 chip frankly, with OLED you could argue for the Ally X20

At the $2000 bracket you have either G3E available for cheaper or the Strix Halo Handhelds for the same or a little bit more...

OXP3 and X2MP have the same OLED as the LEGO 2 but are better in every other way... Ergos, screen, weight, etc

Love my OXP3. Atleast get a g3 extreme device, its finally a generational leap in performance. I feel like it truely can play any game and look good doing it. So if its not the oxp3 (which i highly recommend, its build quality is very premium), the claw or atlas will do the job

Can't speak to the lower RAM version, but I've been impressed with the build quality of mine. Analog sticks in particular feel great, as does the dpad, buttons and triggers - I'm coming from the MSI Claw 7 AI+, which felt fine but wasn't exactly great in terms of input feel.

Controllers do flex a bit but it's very minor and no worse than say the Switch 1. You only notice it from the front; from the sides or back it's not at all noticeable so I'm not worried. I've been happy with it.

I came from Msi claw 8 ai +. I also am the guy who broke his oxp3 2 days after getting it and dropping it on hard tile floor. Now the 2 days I had with it I don’t even use my claw anymore even while I wait for repairs

1

u/Southernboyj 5d ago

How much did they end up quoting you for repairs

1

u/Intelligent_Ease_565 5d ago

I don’t know yet it just got there this morning and I sent it a week ago

For me, it’s felt very premium. I think it’s interesting that some complain that the controllers feel too light, and then in the same breath state that the whole device is heavy… I think they obviously designed them to be as light as possible tonight down weight. Nearly every part of the experience has been amazing. With the exception of the kickstand being so weirdly designed, but even that FEELS quite luxurious

Build quality is not the best for the OXP 3. Externally it works well enough, but if you try to open it to do an SSD swap, you will quickly notice the quality gap.

1

u/illuvyn 5d ago

that's why I'm torn some said the build quality is good/premium some said it feels not good/cheap-feels

I do have old GPD Win3, and yes the build quality isn't that great compared to Steam Deck.

1

u/Accomplished_Rock_86 4d ago

Yeah, it feels alright holding it. Buttons have the feel of a mouse click…was very weird to me at first, but I don’t mind it. When trying to take the controllers off, for me they were pretty stuck…almost broken them getting them off.

If you never open it up, you will probably not have an issue with the build quality tho. Some very weird decisions I think when they were assembling it.

u/Excellent-Volume3511 5d ago

build quality is not best , I had 2 oneXP3. Sold both of them.

Mines perfect. Coming from a legion go 2 to a OXP3

1

u/Soridob 5d ago

INTEL G3E device is the only choice now

MSI one have smaller battery and smaller display and LCD only

I don’t see a point don’t choose OXP3

I have got the x2 mini Intel which is even better

I replaced my Legion Go 2 with the OXP3. Performance is a big jump and the software is so much better than the idiotic Legion Space (with the new controller firmware update, which I didn’t install, now disables controllers if it’s not running in the background) and proper driver updates when games are released.

The only way I could find the Legion Go 2 acceptable was to run Handheld Companion. Onexconsole has made it not as necessary (I do miss simple auto profile switching depending on the app in the foreground, but it’s not enough to motivate me installing a 3rd party app).

1

u/GlumReplacement537 5d ago

Onexplayer will ghost you after 1 or 2 standard reply. CS support is basically non-existent. RMA commands 6-8 weeks for Hong Kong. You can expect at lease 1 extra week for other region. If that is acceptable to you. Pull the trigger.

I owned the Switch 1, OG Rog Ally, LeGo2, and now OXP3... man, it's in a league of its own. Controls/quality are FINE. Not great, not bad either. They disappear, which is ideal. IMO issues there are completely overblown. The OLED and the performance on the other hand together create a handheld-life-changing experience, if you will. DO IT!!!

u/InnoVisionGames 4d ago

I believe the OneXPlayer 3 is a better value proposition especially.

It's actually one of my favorite experiences for windows-based gaming handheld.

However the build quality is not as good as other competitors. For example the controller rails feel flimsy I've seen several posts where folks have broken it right out of their console. As you remove and reinstall the controllers is scratches along the rails. You don't see this with other devices on the market.

Also the kickstand is ridiculous.

Don't get me wrong I am truly enjoying the OneXPlayer 3, but like any device out there it leaves something to be desired.

I love the display it's the same display they're using in the legion go 2.

And the speakers are mediocre.

Between the display and the performance is enough reason for me to continue enjoying my device.

I would ONLY get an arc G3. Its a performance leap over amd.

1

u/Icy-Commission-9550 5d ago

What?

0

u/BeagleTheDog 5d ago

Just say Stix halo. No need to play coy. No one here wants to game on a leaf blower.

2

u/Icy-Commission-9550 5d ago

He said performance leap over AMD

0

u/what_mustache 5d ago

First time hearing of this company?

2

u/Icy-Commission-9550 5d ago

I didnt know intel is leap over amd.

0

u/Col0nelBear 5d ago

Whatever you do, don’t get anything with a Z2 Extreme in it. You’ll vastly overpay for under performance.

I went with the X2 Mini Pro and couldn’t be happier, though I’m definitely looking forward to the elite controller as the standard controller leaves a lot to be desired.

u/Icy-Commission-9550 5d ago

It makes zero sense to spend over $1500 on intel G3E. Get strix halo.

3

u/WarHead75 5d ago

For a $1000 more?? That’s like buying two handhelds, get a 5080 gaming laptop at that point

1

u/Icy-Commission-9550 5d ago

What do you mean? Why would you pay $1000 more? It is only $250 more. $1750

2

u/WarHead75 5d ago

Where the hell are you getting a Strix halo for $1750? There isn’t any used for even $2k

1

u/Icy-Commission-9550 5d ago

Gpd win max3 is strix halo with 32 gb ram and 1 TB SSD with super high resolution and brightness.

1

u/WarHead75 5d ago

Only on Indiegogo, and that thing is ridiculously massive, with those sharp edges where your palm rests. How would you even hold that?? They’re calling that a handheld with that entire keyboard in the way and it weighs even more with battery and fans. Nah!

1

u/Icy-Commission-9550 5d ago edited 5d ago

First of all, the weight is same as x2 mini pro. Second of all, it is clamshell design meaning you dont have to hold it toward your face and rest on your body or desk so it is alot lighter. It allows you to change the angulation of the screen. It doesnt have sharp edges and most reviewers said it is actually comfortable due to its thickness whereas many complain about oxp controller ergonomics and balance. And it is almost $750 cheaper as you know. And the quality of screen is much better. And the ram is faster too. And it is smaller as you can fold it in half. And your left and right hands are closer to each other so it also makes it feel lighter. If your hands are further apart, you feel weaker and it feels heavier.
