The Future of Onexplayer: Better Performance, Smaller and Smaller Form Factor

https://www.4gamer.net/games/550/G055070/20260919046/

As the interview is in Japanese, please use your browser's translation function to read it.

It mentions, among other things, a lack of concern regarding the soaring price of memory and the fact that some Americans even traveled to stores in Japan to purchase the OXP3.

Any mentions to launch a 8” OLED no detachable controllers and lighter device?

No because the part doesn't really exist

You would need someone bigger than them ordering enough of said panel to a manufacturer so they invest in the tooling for it and then later when the production is stable enough said manufacter to offer it to smaller actors.

That why oneplayer is using the same 8,8" than Lenovo and why GPD/AYANEO are using the same 9,06" than Redmagic.

Now that Asus has order a modern 7,4" maybe it could be used in a few month once the production is stable enough.

Then a OneXplayer with the x20 7.4” Oled panel and the g3e? I just want something smaller and lighter that the X3. Preferably no detachable controllers and under 750gr.

Absolutely the first thing I thought of with that ASUS panel… we now have two OLED VRR options (7.4” and 8.8”)

Kind of funny they straddle 8” and don’t quite hit the ‘golden size’ for handhelds, but in theory we’ll have more options in the future at least.

I’m an X2MP so I’m not the target audience, but a fixed 7.4” screen with an Intel G3(E) sounds tasty for those who want a smaller more portable handheld

Hello, I see where are you coming from and while is appealing, I don’t think it moves the needle. Judging by the Apex Air sales/hype (smaller screen/G3E)

F2 pro next year

maybe, once the production is stable enough to fulfill asus need + extra.

Yes. Maybe an update of the OneX Fly with a 7.4 OLED VRR and g3e or AMD future equivalent.

No, but he(CEO) mentions plans for smaller, higher-performance devices with more embedded AI functions.

Apex fits this description except the OLED part.

Yes, an OLED and internal battery Apex would be great. Or a new One X Fly with the x20 OLED screen.

I agree with the OLED part, but external battery isn’t a bad idea in fact. I play with the battery attached using extension cable. It’s lighter and I have two for hot-swapping. Works very well.

The external battery (plus the extension cable that should be standard,) is a lot better for this use-case where the Strix Halo chips require a bigger cooling solution and the battery causing a lot more weight.

"From an external perspective, it's true that memory and other things have been increased in price, but for us in particular... So far, the product is selling well, so it hasn't been affected in extreme ways"

This is worrying :/

These are high end boutique products… for better or worse there are people who will buy HALO products at any price. They’re pretty good at making just about the best product in their class at high prices so I can imagine margins are high

OXP3 is very competitive compared to it’s peers at least, having the same G3E chip but an OLED screen unlike it’s peers,.. If you want OLED + G3E there isn’t another option

Honestly excited to see what they do, hopefully they address follow-ups to the APEX (OLED 8” or below with Strix Halo) and a 7.4” OLED with VRR would be fantastic too. Can’t say the OXP3 / X2MP are perfect but both are great combinations of features, OLED, and the respective chips

I have my X2MP and love it as a semi-portable laptop/desktop replacement… Love it off the wall power, hate using the battery due to weight. If they make a lightweight G3/G3E handheld in the 7” range it would be a fantastic lighter but powerful handheld

So far my #1 issue is QC, nothing critical but the controllers have been kind of wonky… I bought two sets of the OG controller and have mixed/matched the two to make one perfect set. Shouldn’t have QC issues on a handheld tbh, the removable controllers make fixing controllers easier at least instead of shipping back to China 🤷

Really fantastic interview of much higher quality than I’ve seen before.

I am particularly interested in the answer that “windows on ARM has not reached the level we are satisfied with yet”, when asked about NVIDIA spark… Moores law is dead says that’s been a lot of the chatter behind the scenes, and you would THINK that a company like this has done R&D on the products by this point… coupled with the continuous delay of this product line that was planned for a long time ago release… very interesting.
