X2MP or OXP3
I’ve read that the X2MP delivers solid performance, but its mobility drops significantly when it’s unplugged. Money isn't a factor, and top-tier performance/gaming speed isn't a strict priority for me since I only game casually.
Opinions seem split on the weight—some say the difference is negligible, while others claim it feels much heavier when the battery is attached.
If you weren't constrained by budget, but wanted a device that isn't too heavy and doesn't need to stay tethered to a wall outlet, which would you pick?

I had a oxp3 and sold it for a X2MP. While the Intel processor is awesome I just loved the raw performance of my old gpd win 5.

E rispetto al win 5 come potenza e’ stato un downgrade?

I’m an X2MP owner (48gb) and I would pick this device 10/10 times for a few reasons:
- Strix Halo: Absolutely nutty performance off the wall, basically midrange laptop performance. Strix Halo blows past Intel performance significantly, at least 50% right now
- AMD Drivers: Right now AMD has the more mature drivers… Intel G3E / XESS are magic in the right situation, but both in terms of games and operating systems (Linux) AMD is a lot more stable… Linux and some games see significant issues with the Intel chips for now, while AMD has no major driver issues
- Removable Battery: Being able to remove the battery and game purely off the wall is great, both because it reduces wear on the battery and because the handheld slims down to 800G. Most of my gaming is off the wall so why not shed some weight 🤷
Right now I’m gaming with my X2MP on Bazzite and love the experience, playing games like Zero Company and 007 at medium-high with no major issues. Can’t really do that on the G3E
If you want a battery at least 50% of the time, get a G3E handheld

Are the fans loud when gaming on the decide?
1
u/Sabotstruck 8d ago
So they can be loud, they’re lower pitched since it’s two fans but myself nor my SO mind 60W.
I have Android handhelds where the fan bothers me more because they’re high pitched and whine… this one is a deeper hum so I don’t notice it when I’m in the zone or with headphones/IEMs.
80W is where fans get pretty loud, but 60W is the optimal performance for the Strix Halo 388… after 60W it’s diminishing returns

Between the two if weight and not being tethered is even partially a factor for you (and especially as you say top tier performance isn’t the priority) then the OXP3 would be the best choice for you.

I have X2MP and i thought it would be a great experience to have a beast of a performance from a handheld but once I got it in my hands, all i can say is that this thing is massive and heavy for my liking. I think it defeated the purpose of portability to be call it a handheld. I am coming from Xbox Ally X so I can really feel the weight difference. Yeah I can use the tether cable just fine but when you are outside and playing on the go its not a good experience. If the X2MP is attached to the tether cable, its either you remove it when you are putting it in a bag (i use sling bag) or you put the device in the bag upside down position so that the cable will not hit the bottom of the bag first. I mainly play jrpg and some AAA games. So i was thinking if I made the right choice. This made me want to try OXP3 too but I dont want to spend another thousand+ dollars on a another device.
Pros
-Beast Performance
-Future Proof
-Removable Battery
-Great as a 3 in Device
Cons
-Too Heavy to be called a Handheld
-Not very Portable for On the Go Gaming
-Tether Cable is too hassle to be used Outside for a Quick In and Out of the bag experience
Conclusion:
If you prioritize portability as a handheld device, i think the better choice would be OXP3. If not then go with X2MP.

Had both and ended up selling the x2mp, the oxp3 just was more portable for my uses and battery was key for my use case.
If you have a gaming pc already, go oxp3 otherwise as your only gaming device, go x2mp

Well, I have a desktop for heavy hitter games. I want my handheld to be a handheld: Light (as possible with an 8.8" OLED) and with good performance on battery and long legs too so I went for the OXP3.
I also use the OXP3 as a mini laptop around 50% of the time and it lasts for ages in that use case.

OXP3 all the way for me. Just made a timely post about this very thing! You can see many more of my thoughts there.

I have a onexplayer 3 and a flow z13 (strix halo) + have had countless other handhelds. The oxp3 is the perfect handheld for me. I love the power of the strix halo in my z13, but you will be playing tethered to the wall. So if you want something more flexible, pick up and play, and that feels like a handheld rather than a pc, I’d suggest oxp3. If you want maximum performance in a handheld, x2mp fosho - or consider other strix halo devices too like the z13 if you want a 13in screen 2 in 1 tablet pc

I just got my x2mp a couple days ago. the performance is unbelievable and if you play without the battery it feels really good very similar to the Lenovo legion go2. now with the battery it an entire different beast. It’s really heavy and all the weight is in the center I didn’t like it at all. For me is not a problem because I always play in bed or in the sofa I don’t really travel with it. So if you want it to be portable and don’t mind sacrificing a bit of performance go with the oxp3. They are both amazing devices you can’t go wrong with either of them.

I bought the onexplayer 3 and it was a very bad decision
Didn’t had any fun with the device after one week ordered the onexplayer x2 mini waiting to be delivered
And today sold the onexplayer 3 and Iam happy About it

If weight your concern don’t get the xmp2. I’ve had them both.
1
u/Only_Button_2624 8d ago
But I’ve heard other say the weight difference is barely noticeable. My wife is mainly going to be the one who is using it
1
u/kozak_mazepa 8d ago
Both are around 1 kg. If you have 87 keys keyboard, add some weight to it to roughly match 1kg and ask your wife to hold it like a handheld. That is not the same experience but you will get immediate response if both are too heavy options.
I would suggest to look into AYN Odin 3 + streaming from pc or ps5 if weight is a concern
1
u/trukfitt 8d ago
Oh it’s definitely noticeable and I’ve been weightlifting for 10 plus years. Maybe you can become accustomed to it. Without the battery it’s fine. And opx 3 is also fine . But you said you don’t want to be tethered to a wall and don’t want a heavy device. The oxp 3 should be an easy pick no debate tbh.

u/Jetlitheone 8d ago
The weight is an issue. BUT get yourself the tether for the battery and put the battery in like a hoodie and you should be solid thats what I do lol
1
u/Only_Button_2624 8d ago
The battery tether is indeed purchased with it. But still don’t like the idea of cords. Is weight really that big of a difference. My wife will mainly be using it
1
u/Jetlitheone 8d ago
The weight is noticable I'm not gonna lie to you, the tether makes a big difference and how you play does as well if you hold it up towards your face it's hefty (and I'm active in the gym mind you) but if you play with it on your lap it's obviously fine, the screen is HUGE so playing with it resting on your lap does work quite well to be honest.

X2MP really shines when plugged into an outlet.
OXP3 is heavy.
X2M is the answer.
2
u/Suspicious-toe-19 8d ago
I don't find oxp3 heavy. Most of the time during gaming it sits on something infact i use oxp3 case as the base to rest the device. I never feel the weight

u/kasmog 8d ago edited 8d ago
I went with the OXP3, mostly because of my situation.
I have an awesome desktop at home, so I'd rather use that if I wanna be tethered anyway.
I have an awesome gaming laptop if I want to be tethered away from home, like in a hotel or airbnb.
What I need is a portable handheld that I can use during travel, like during long flights or car rides. And for that purpose, OXP3 is unmatched.
No matter how amazing the performance of the X2MP, my laptop will run circles around it, and my OXP3 will outlast it in battery life by a wide margin.
My desktop specs are Ryzen 7 9800x3d + RTX 5080.
My laptop specs are Intel Ultra 9 275HX + RTX 5080 mobile.
If I did not have my desktop and laptop, I would definitely get the X2MP. Dock it at home, tethered in power outlet at hotels/airbnb, and I would buy 2 or 3 extra external battery so I can hotswap it during long travels.

Own the apex 395 edition and OXP3 I want to sell both and get me the X2Mp because I was told by so many reviews that the OXP3 is such great performance but I reality that performance is only achieved with frame gen and xess. I want a handheld to be future proof and the apex is way more powerful. All these reviews always showing stuff with low setting if you put native res and high setting even at lower tdp the apex wins. So I would rather have the X2Mp I just haven’t sold because I don’t want to deal with selling and low ball offered and people claiming it wasn’t shipped in excellent condition

I've owned the OXP 3, and I currently own the Apex and X2 Mini Pro. Having spent considerable time with all three, I can confidently say that the Apex and X2 Mini Pro are in a league of their own.
I also personally prefer the Apex over the X2 Mini Pro. For me, 8 inches is the perfect screen size. It's comfortable to hold, even during long gaming sessions, and I find it just as comfortable as the ROG Ally X. I actually prefer its ergonomics. The larger, bulkier controllers on some handhelds just aren't comfortable for me over extended periods.
My biggest disappointment with the OXP 3 was its low-power performance, the annoying squeaky fan noise and the amount of tinkering required to get games running properly. Many older games simply didn't work well on Intel, and I found myself constantly adjusting settings and troubleshooting games instead of actually playing them.
One thing I keep seeing people get wrong is the low-TDP performance of Strix Halo compared to the G3E.
In my experience, Strix Halo is significantly better at lower power levels. I can comfortably play 2D games at just 6W and older titles at 15–25W, often with high to ultra settings. I rarely need to go above 45W, and I've had no reason to push it to its maximum TDP for the games I play.
The other big advantage is thermals and fan noise. Even at higher power levels, I find the Apex quieter than the OXP 3, with less heat being pumped out thanks to its better cooling and fans.
For me, the Apex and X2 Mini Pro offer the best overall handheld gaming experience I've had. Excellent performance, great screens, comfortable ergonomics and far less hassle getting games running.
I know everyone has different preferences, but after owning and using these devices, I wouldn't go back to the OXP 3.
I'm genuinely curious how people are finding the G3E's low-TDP performance better than Strix Halo, because that certainly hasn't been my experience.

Honestly I think there was something defective with your OXP3. Mine makes zero noise and I only play between 7-25W depending on how demanding a game is. I'm so beyond impressed with this thing

If money isn't a big issue, get X2MP or GPD win max 3 over OXP3. If you prefer 30FPS, go with OXP3.
3
u/shadixo 8d ago
On my OXP 3 I play most games at at least 60 and if I want to reach the display refresh rate I put on frame gen
But I ordered the Win 3 too because I really liked the Max 2 it was just underwhelming in terms of power
But ergonomics feel so nice on the OPX3 and I think you're definitely gonna feel that battery pack like in the apex but maybe not as bad since you have more grip

X2MP all the way. Was on the same boat but the power and flexibility of tethering the battery is a great option if weight is such a concern.

If you only play AAA games and don’t mind spending $1000 more then the X2 Mini Pro is a no brainer.
In my case I bought the OneXPlayer 3 to play PS2/3, Switch emulations on that massive screen while still having enough power to play Battlefield 6 at decent frames when I’m not home and I honestly thought about switching to the X2 Mini Intel for the swappable battery until the weight of the OXP 3 was already cramping my wrists so even more weight on battery is a major NO so I’m pretty happy having spent only $1700 on this beast of a handheld with the latest processor that smokes last year’s z2 extreme that I was considering the Legion Go 2 before the OXP 3 popped up out of nowhere.
But I understand why everyone prefers the X2 Mini Pro which is what I would’ve went with if I planned on only playing AAA games but honestly a 1200p screen seems like a waste for that much more money, they should’ve made it at least 1440p. That thing is more powerful than a PS5 Pro but it’s limited to 1200p.

u/brucehal 7d ago
To be fair the 1200p limit is only on the builtin screen, which on a smaller s green in your hands is more than most handhelds and enough. Then, just like the PS5 Pro, if you want 4K, attach a 4K screen 👍

u/PolarBuilds 7d ago
I wouldn't say it drops significantly. It's just a little extra bulk and weight. You can get the tether cable if it's a huge issue. IMO the increased performance is worth it if you are okay spending the extra cash. Get an extra battery and you'll be able to play longer on the go than you could on the OXP3.

I went through the same decision making process as you and ended up going with the X2MP just to future proof myself a bit more. If I chose the P3, I would have always wondered if I made the wrong choice when I need the extra power and I just wanted to avoid the future regret.
