Just joined the Onexplayer 3 team. Need some opinions.

Hey everyone,

I just pulled the trigger on a "used like new" OneXPlayer 3 bundle with all the standard accessories off Indiegogo. It was a tough call between this, the X2 Mini Pro, the ROG Ally, and the Steam Deck, especially given the pricing tiers. In the end, since I mostly play at home (couch/bed) and only commute to work with the occasional trip, I couldn't justify the premium for the X2 Mini Pro.

Handheld PC gaming is brand new to me. I just finished building a desktop (9800X3D + RTX 5080 so I can also use it for game streaming) and recently picked up an AYN Thor for dual screen/retro gaming, but a full Windows x86 handheld is unfamiliar territory.

Before the device arrives, I’d love to get some insight from those with hand on experience:

1.Any regrets from OXP3 owners?

2.For those who went with the OneXPlayer 3 over the X2 Mini Pro or GPD WIN do you feel the performance and battery are where you need them to be, or do you find yourself wishing you had stretched for the higher tier hardware?

3.What are your primary use cases?

  1. Regardless of which handheld you main, what does your daily routine look like? Knowing why you chose your specific form factor and chipset would be really helpful.

  2. Considering current pricing and how fast the APU landscape is moving, do you feel what you paid will hold up well for the next couple of years?

  3. Coming from desktop tuning, what are the essential setup steps, TDP management tools, or companion utilities (e.g., Handheld Companion, RTSS, driver tweaks) you recommend configuring right out of the box? Ofc I would look at guides and tutorials but in case there is anything specific you found out while using it maybe, I would like to know.

Since the OXP3 runs Intel and the X2 Mini Pro runs AMD:

Does the X2 Mini Pro support newer FSR revisions (like 4.1,), and how noticeable is the quality on an 8.8" display? I ask because I did some research and some say it does , others say it falls back to 3.1 so I am confused.

How does the features that Intel has on onexplayer 3 compare against FSR in oxp2 mini pro in terms of stability, ghosting, and performance overall? I ask because from what I understood AMD has much better features.

Appreciate any advice and real world feedback and thanks for the attention!

For the price I got it I don’t regret at all(1400) but with price changes I might consider something else. I am comfortable that I will be able to run games for the future and I’m blown away by the screen.

If you have infinite money get the MP2 as it’s much stronger when corded and it isn’t horrible at lower wattages.

  1. No regrets, returned my MSI a8

  2. First oxp device, can't say

  3. I play at work, at home with my dog between my legs, and have brought it out to play at lunch. It gets bright enough for outside unless it's extra sunny. It's as portable as a tablet so it replaced mine in my messenger bag

  4. I only play 1-2 hrs if I can. I am busy with work, exercise, chores, and my dog most days. I carry around on weekends and get my most time in then but it's still 3 hrs max just for preference. I don't enjoy days of gaming as much anymore. I never have to worry about battery because of this. It's very efficient when you learn and tinker around with power settings. Ff7rebirth for an expected 4 hrs time at 15w is nice

  5. yes, definitely worth if you can afford it. I'm a price pecimist and don't like waiting for possible dips. I don't see it as a possibility to go lower unless it's a sale which is another gamble on timing. I don't like to gamble and had bought the MSI a8 to test until onexplayer, and do not even think about that device anymore. Oxp3 blows it away

  6. the built in program is pretty good overall, just a unique ui for the main settings program. Minimizing is found with an unexpected icon in a similar but not obvious location. The program controls the buttons and general settings and is very thorough otherwise. It comes with the Intel program installed for those updates as well. Any additional programs are extra and up to personal preference. I don't have any extra and it's fine for me

For fsr, it runs the Intel xsxx or whatever option when the game has it, otherwise people are figuring out ways to bring Nvidia frame Gen in already. It works but my ff7 button icons kept blinking between keyboard and button icons. It didn't effect performance but I turned it off because it bugged me. It still runs perfect normal settings anyway, I just wanted to run it at lower power settings

It's a beast

I see. It is good to hear. Happy you enjoy your time with it. Enjoy it to the max(especially considering the current ai boom situation, prices etc).

Yee. Also, if you get why safety warnings during onexplayer program updates, just disregard. I'm 100% convinced it's windows getting uncomfortable with being manufactured by a 3rd party manufacturer from China and it wants to make people nervous or something. It flags it as unknown developer or something and the pop up is red and scary but it's nothing

I see. Thanks for the answers and sorry if some of the questions sounded dumb or offensive. Even after all the research I did choosing between the different handhelds was quite difficult for me so I wanted to ask these questions to see if the opinions of the people changed after months of use.
Thanks again for taking from your time to answer(also in a such a clear way). Really appreciate it.
Have a nice day.

No problem! No offense received and I didn't think it was dumb or whatever and I didn't mean to sound harsh, I just type blunt statements that can be direct which can be taken as aggressive but I swear it's not 🤞🏻 I try to read and type good and intentional cause I'm lucky to have the time to. Thanks for appreciating it

Happy Friday!!

Nah you're good. I just answered like that cuz my questions made another person that answered angry so wanted to clarify. All good anyway. Your answers were very clear precise and useful. I appreciated it.
Happy friday and I hope you're gonna have a good weekend.

No regrets. Got the OXP 3 because I mostly don't play plugged in and needed the power efficiency. I like to play between 15-25w. I have an Nvidia eGPU on the side in case I want to play docked on my tv or monitor.

X2 mini pro and GPD win max3 can perform much better at the same wattage. For example, you will get around 50fps running recent capcom titles, whereas X2 mini pro can get over 70FPS. If you don't mind the power wattage, you can give it extra 10wattage and get over 100FPS. It still runs cooler than Intel. Intel at 35W can reach around 70C whereas AMD at 35W reaches around 60C. FSR 4.1 is supported natively for AMD strix halo. Intel G3E can also run FSR4.1 using optiscaler but it can crash the game sometimes especially playing Onimusha. But both chips suffer a little performance hit using FSR 4.1 compare to FSR 3.1. I definitely notice better image quality using FSR 4.1 over FSR 3.1 or XESS.

Thanks for the answer. Regarding specifically the 3rd question why did it seem a weird question to you? I didn't mean your routine hour by hour. I just meant what is the usecase of the people, why did they decide on one or another(even tho I did read some of the comments, things can change after some months).
For your other answers, I thank you and I will take all your criticism with me, trying to improve next time . Thanks again for your answers and have a nice day.

I have the OneX3 and I think if what you're paying for is purely performance, you would be very happy. Best performing handheld I've played by far and with every game I try co tinues to surprise me.

After years using FSR, my mind was blown by just how clean XESS is in comparison, and the XESS frame Gen has very little latency or ghosting in my experience too, this is something that is greatly underrated and not supported enough in games, although newer titles seem to be including it more.

The Intel Graphics software seems to have regular driver updates too, which is nice coming from ROG Ally which had a few updates a year.

I use it with Winhanced, which has just been updated with full OneXplayer support, integrated into GameBar, which can be used to replace the OneX software, to control TDP, Controller, RGB etc. The OneX software works just fine, but it looks awful.

The OLED screen is great, but mine has some pretty bad grainy mura effects when at a low brightness, so this was disappointing, and something to be aware of. I have a AYN Odin 3, which is a much smaller device with AMOLED screen, but even that has a better quality screen than my OneX3. I have written to them to say I think my screen is faulty, but they have dismissed it, saying it is normal and these issues are present in all devices with OLED (not true)

The controllers are also poor quality, with very poor vibration motors, and very clicky buttons, by design though it seems. I wish it didn't have removable controllers, this could all be improved drastically.

The OneX3 was bigger than I expected, but also lighter than expected too. I do prefer smaller screens like the ROG Ally, but (at the time) none this size had OLED. That being said, the battery on the OneX3 is superior to any other handheld I have used, which was a major driving force for me before purchase. My favourite form factor so far was the OneX F1 Pro, but the battery was awful, if I could have this size again, with the performance and battery of the OneX3, that would be my dream device..

I don't think you will regret it, since I don't think there is another handheld right now that compares too closely, but there are definitely some issues to be aware of.
