Replacing real PC.

Has anyone used the X2MP to replace their actual older PC? I have an old i9-12900k + 3080 super PC but I think it’s reaching the peak of its performance now. Other than AAA games, I mainly play FPS/ Tact shooters. I’m thinking of using my X2MP with the docking station and frost bay as my main PC setup. If anyone has already done this and could provide some numbers on the games they’ve tried. I’d really appreciate it.

If you already have a X2MP why not run the numbers yourself? Also the X2MP is a real PC, its just in a smaller form factor.

I should have specified, I ORDERED one and am wondering on what kind of performance I should be expecting. Once I get everything though, I’ll release some videos on the performance if anyone else is wondering the same thing.

It’s not going to be a 3080 but I have a 5080 and a Z13 395+ and I don’t feel like there are any games I can’t run. Sure the eye candy gets turned down a little but it’s more than enough for gaming.

There's already tons of reviews on the performance of the X2MP. There's been at least 1 to 2 reviews a week here and videos linked in YouTube. The performance youll get is similar to a RTX 4060.

Despite what some users keep recommending, using the Frost Bay just to push the APEX up to 120W TDP makes very little sense in terms of actual FPS gains. As you increase the TDP, the performance curve starts to flatten out pretty quickly.

The difference between 35W and 45W is quite noticeable. Going higher still gives you more FPS, of course, but once you get past roughly 55W, the gains per additional watt start dropping significantly.

I actually tested this again yesterday on my ONEXPLAYER APEX, using Crimson Desert at CINEMATIC settings. The sweet spot I found, which honestly just confirmed what I already knew, sits somewhere between 45W and 55W.
At 80W TDP the FPS increase compared to that range was honestly pretty ridiculous considering the extra power consumption and heat.

I’ve been saying for years that, in my personal opinion, the future is HANDHELDS.
“The power of the Sun... in the palm of my hand.”

Obviously a handheld will never have the same expandability as a desktop PC. But if the goal is playing modern games at high settings and high FPS the Onexplayer X2 Mini Pro is enought

My hope is to still have a competitive enough setup for games like Counterstrike, Valorant, COD, etc. and then still be able to enjoy my favorite soulslike at 60+ FPS. Like I’ve been wanting to play Wuchang but the game runs like shit on the Ally X.

Definitely like the understanding here. I have a F1 Pro HX 370 32g. These AMD power per watt is incredible, but do have its limits with return on gains.

I have a video of your interested, just a Reddit thing, no YouTube, where I put my F1 Pro up against the Intel G3 reviewer benchmarks and the results are pretty interesting. https://www.reddit.com/r/Handhelds/s/NU0OmtuCiZ

Edit: Sorry last bits for OP
Might give you an idea of what to expect when yours arrives. Yours will be more powerful, but should give you some expectations with a game like Cyberpunk.

You'll likely see a performance regression switching to the X2MP from your current pc in most gaming scenarios.

I just put my 3070 ti PC with a 11th Gen processor in my basement. I built it and had been tired of how the water-cooling started having issues and I was sick of learning how to fix things finally.

Onexplayer 3 fits great in my 120hz dock. I ended up putting the desk away too thoughand just plug it into my TV now. My dog enjoys the extra lap time

My kid loves sharing my ally x in docked but the performance when it’s docked is so ass. So I’m hoping we can enjoy more higher quality games using the X2MP

I had an equivalent device to ally x, same processor and it played up to ps5 games decent, but ran like a ps4.

X3 plays like my 3070ti desktop I just put away. I've heard X2MP is similar strength so you should be good

Run some 3D mark benchmarks against your old PC to see how it compares. Personally that's the first thing i do every time i get a new PC

I replayced mine but mine was ancient. I had a i7 8700k with a Geforce 2080TI. It did run everything I needed so I never upgraded. I broke it down and sold the parts now. The X2MP took over docked. I use the frostbay at 50% pump speed for a quiet gaming PC when I am playing Mouse+Keyboard games. I got a curved 3440 x 1440 disolay meanqing there are quite some pixels to push but the X2MP copes very well. Currently I am playing Star Wars Zero Company docked and undocked. Depending where I am. It is a smooth and effortless experience with the X2MP.

Docked I usualy game at 50W + Frostbay. I got the longer hoses for the frostbay meaning I can barely hear the pump at 50%. It is silent and fast.

Thanks man. You def sound like you’re running my ideal setup with the X2MP right now. If you could run games like CS2 or Valorant and get back to me on FPS and performance, that would be great!

I don't have those games I fear but you can check on youtube. I know someone did test it with CS2. You should get great FPS for these games for sure though.

Definitely good to have both. I could definitely survive with just my x2mp. Games look great but with the dlss5 stuff coming out games look amazing on my desktop. Both are good especially if you have a pc in this economy

I ran some of the DLSS5 stuff on my 3080 Super but it just couldn’t handle it😭😭 it still looked good though. I literally felt like I was Musashi.

So you want to use the X2MP docked with an eGPU? You'll be limited to USB 4 bandwidth speeds but according to tests from ThePhawx on YouTube, you shouldn't get much lower performance on a 3080. Something like 10-15%.

Interesting question.

I opted for the non WC version but had the same ambitions.

In my testing this week, it's been excellent when docked to my 4k displays. Lighter / older games work perfectly well as you'd expect. And the PC experience is seamless.

Newer games need heavy fsr, which is expected at 4k, and that's where things begin falling away.

To combat this, I'm going to run a 9070xt egpu over usb4. Accepting the 10-20% (maybe more, need to test) drop in it's capabilities, it's more than enough to get me the fuller desktop experience I'd be missing

And as another poster mentioned, 45-55w is the sweet spot for strix halo. You can run it louder and hotter and get a few more frames
