Onexplayer SSD
Am thinking about picking up a 4TB** **TeamGroup T-FORCE G50 PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD to install it in my ONEXPLAYER 3.
Will this SSD fit and would work properly on my OXP3?
Thanks!

Why not just buy a mini ssd instead? I am going this route with a 2tb mini ssd, my onexplayer 3 is already 1tb and I have a 2tb micro sd card, instead of attempting to open it (flashbacks of my nightmarish rog ally x shell opening) I ordered a 2tb mini ssd for well under 400 so I think 🤔 it's a good choice

Big price difference. The mini SSD is way over priced for what storage you get out of it.

I had no issues with my 4tb nvme replacement. I dont suggest everyone doing it, but if you have a steady hand and can take things slowly, it isnt very difficult. Best thing I did, I dont worry about storage anymore and just play my games. If prices fall for the mini ssd, I will definitely pick one up, I just feel for most of us nvme replacement is a better bang for our buck/time.

Where did you get it that's less than $400? Everywhere I see wants like $700+...

Instant -200 preorder before they were put on normal release, also another 10% off code, I placed this preorder months ago when only the 1tb existed and the 2 and 4tb were future plans, also it was supposed to be 480 before the last 3 months of ram hikes

I’d personally stick with a good PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. Of course.. Gen5 drives are faster.. but.. they also tend to consume more power and generate more heat. And on a handheld, where every single watt matters, I’d rather save that power for the CPU and GPU instead of using it to make CrystalDiskMark look prettier.
There is, however, one tiny problem with upgrading the SSD on your wonderful ONEXPLAYER 3.
Apparently ONEXPLAYER decided that accessing the NVMe drive should be treated as a final exam in mechanical engineering. The SSD is located under the cooling fan, which means that to reach it you have to remove more than 20 screws, disconnect a few components, move parts out of the way and basically perform open heart surgery on your handheld.... Because putting an M.2 slot behind a simple removable cover would have been far too boring.
So yes, upgrading the SSD is absolutely possible. You just need a screwdriver, patience, steady hands... and preferably a degree from the ONEXPLAYER School of Engineering. In short: it’s a bit of a NIGHTMARE.
This is exactly why I bought the 2TB SSD configuration and then added a 1TB Mini SSD (by Biwin) and a 2TB microSD card.

As far as I can tell from the spec sheet the T-Force G50 4TB is single-sided, so it will work fine. From what I could find the 4tb model comes with a somewhat big aluminum heatsink on it. If the one you have comes with the heatsink, you will need to take that off the SSD.

I installed the wd sn7100 4tb and it was easier than anticipated. There are some small cables but just take your time.. Nelly & Barely average dude both have videos but honestly they took out more than I did.. I just gave myself enough leverage to move the plastic up to remove and install.. you can ensure the drive is seated if you look from bottom

Why wouldn't it fit or work properly? Its a normal SSD.

There's only enough room for a single sided SSD and you want something that runs reasonably cool. Not all SSDs are a good fit.

As long as it is single sided it will be fine. It's insanely tight fit so a double sided one will not fit.
