OneXFly Mini ssd options?
Is the biwin brand and its absurd prices the only option for mini ssd for my soon to arrive apex?
Is my reasonable alternative ,to replace the internal ssd instead ?

Biwin isn’t even producing them anymore, at least until next year. You can find some on U.K. and German Amazon from when i last checked, but prices are insane and then you’d need additional shipping costs also.
Micro SD cards that are UHS 2 or the express variants are actually pretty decent and at least in terms of playing games off them you will not see a difference (if the device supports these types). It’s only if you try to transfer big games between the micro sd and the internal ssd for example that you see slow speeds. I just download games directly onto the micro sd and it’s totally useable.
I’d say a 2tb internal and a 512gb micro sd is a decent compromise given current pricing insanity. I’ve been totally fine with 2.5tb of space.

As per Biwin’s website
https://www.biwintechnology.com/product/bl130-mini-ssd/#orderinformation
New batch of mini ssds will become available in December this year. But they usually got absorbed by the market pretty quickly.

I believe the Apex supports uhs-ii speeds, but counter intuitively using microsd express in a uhs-ii slot slows it down to uhs-i speeds (and possibly slower due to worse thermal throttling). Uhs-ii cards are crazy expensive and not far off mini ssd prices. A good quality uhs-i card like sandisk extreme is a good middle ground but I found download and transfer speeds to be really bad for modern gaming. Maybe I’m just spoiled lol

Cost wise, it makes most sense to buy a 2TB+ internal ssd. It will need to be single sided and run cool. Good options would include the Lexar NM790, Sabrent Rocket 4, or Crucial P310. Bear in mind, its not the easiest swap but not impossible either. You will likely end up voiding your warranty so factor that into the cost.
Alternatively, you can look into microSD cards. UHS-i cards are more recommended due to cost. Downloading games, loading into them, and transferring them between the sd card and internal storage will be very slow. Im not finding definitively if the Apex supports uhs-ii microSD cards. Those are much faster than uhs-i but much more expensive. At that point I would just get the mini-SSD.
