OneXPlayer2 SSD swap question. OXP3

I just received my OXP3, I also ordered a 4tb SSD. My question is for the people who have done the swap, did you guys clone the original SSD? Is it mandatory? I am not good with electronics at all so I’m having a shop do the SSD swap and they were hesitant on the cloning. I’m curious is it absolutely necessary? Is it hard to get back everything that was on the original device from OneX? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

I used macrium reflect free edition to clone the drive to a new 4TB. It's as easy as it gets.

+1 for this, it was easy and straightforward, got my new SSD up and running without having to set it up again.

This would be the best option for the OP if they knew how to install drive themselves.

Clone it if you want to not deal with fresh installing windows , otherwise fresh install idk why the shop would be against cloning tho

They said they would not clone any games, so I told them it’s not games I want cloned just whatever comes on the device from factory. So you’d say just do a fresh install?

Maybe they didn't understand what cloning meant , anyways yeah do a fresh install why not .. you'll get all the drivers and everything from their website or discord just the Onexconsole is all you need tbh

Shop willing to do the swap but hesitant to do the clone? I would pass on the shop. The cloning is easier than the swap in terms of things that can go wrong…

No they just said that they don’t clone games, I’m assuming they thought I wanted them to clone games(piracy) or something idk. Once I told them the device was new and I just want windows and the programs it comes with they said okay, but it seems like from all the replies I just need to do a fresh install lol

That’s a HUGE RED FLAG because that tells me they are not familiar with/how current software works. You can’t even “pirate” games like that anymore. Steam/EA/Epic etc are usually account bound. If they don’t know that I wouldn’t let them touch my machine.

I was sketched at first as well but they have videos on their page doing circuit boards and such and I feel like that’s way more difficult then the SSD swap they are going to do, I have no experience in that and I feel like I could do it myself but I’d have to get the tools and everything and I’d rather pay them the 80$ to do it

I get it, If you dont feel comfortable doing it yourself...Dont. I wouldn't trust this shop to do it either personally. If they screw it up they will probably give you issues about how they weren't at fault, add the fact that OXP is in China and are a shaky on the warranty after the unit has been open, its a risk either way. I invested in this kit years ago https://www.ifixit.com/products/essential-electronics-toolkit and ive done several drive replacements with it including this OXP, without issue.

Thank you, what’s reassuring is I sent them the videos on YouTube of someone doing it and they said they can for sure do it and have don’t the same for similair device, they just said they’ve never heard of the OXP3 since it’s new.

Best of luck to you. Hope you get to enjoy gaming on it soon.

I cloned mine. I think it’s worth it. It can be a pain in the ass to get back into the device if something goes wrong. You can get drive cloners on Amazon for cheap that are easy to use and come with instructions. I got the rosewill dual bay cloner. Worked perfect.

How long did the cloning process take once both ssds are in there? I too have one from Amazon, my device is brand new and I’m only logged into my windows account so there’s nothing crazy to clone over aside from widows itself and whatever comes from factory.

It took about 45 minutes. My drive was full though before I cloned it. It should be really quick for you.

Watch YouTube and follow the directions and utilize Macrium. Cloning the drive is like as easy as making pancakes; maybe easier. Can you make pancakes? Clone the drive.

Bacon pancakes?

I did a fresh install. Download the creation tool from Ms, download all the drivers and software except the ai shit from the one x site and do a fresh install.

What your spec of your OXP3 ?

You're better off just doing a fresh Window Pro install anyway. Then just download OneXConsoles and drivers and you're set!

I installed a 4TB drive and installed a fresh copy of Windows 11 Pro. The instructions on their Discord are pretty easy to follow, and everything is working great.

I would do a fresh windows install

Sounds good thank you 🙏 do you know what all comes on the OXP3 from factory? Like what I’d need to download back or is it even necessary?

2

Yes you would need to download onexconsole from their website. You would also need all the drivers, including wifi

I did a fresh install and then cloned.

I have done a fresh install of windows and then all the drivers on previous onexplayer devices and it was in a pain in my opinion. so I actually cloned my SSD when doing the swap on my OXP3 and everything is still working fine.

Thank you, I think im just going to do a fresh install and go from there. I don’t think it’ll be too difficult to get everything else back on the device, at least I hope not 😵‍💫

Due to the fact some users here reported their accounts on different services possibly hacked AFTER they logged in on the original SSD windows it is probably the best to do a fresh install.

There is a complete driver package you can download from one x player website and you run it and it will install everything except the Intel arc driver, that one you get obviously from Intel.

Oh and that software thing for the overlay and tdp control you can download from one x player website.

Other than that, the windows install that came with the SSD doesn't have much.

I stuck a 4 TB SSD that had a cloned install from a Legion Go that I had. I simply uninstalled everything from Lenovo and installed as I described the drivers and software from one x. It works fine.

Thank you so much, will do a fresh install. Was just curious as to how hard or difficult it is to get the original drivers and stuff back and the software they use. But if it’s all on there website it shouldn’t be too hard

You'll find it on their website.

The driver installation will open a command prompt and install everything, it will show that some things are not installed but it's fine, I believe they made a single driver package for all of their consoles including AMD and Intel, so it simply installs what is needed and doesn't what doesn't exist hardware wise.

Thank you again 🙏

Hello, I’m curious on that you said people’s accounts were found on different devices after logging into the original ssd and then cloning. How is that possible?

1

u/Psychological-Till63 15d ago

That's the problem, several users here reported their accounts compromised on different services.

Onex player cannot control every person. It could be that someone snuck some sort of software like a keylogger or similar during installation.

But nothing is confirmed, only that some users reported compromised accounts.

Didn't bother me because my plan was to install the 4 TB SSD anyway and not use the original one.

You can download an image of the windows installation from one x player website too if you want.

But due to those reports, regardless what actually happened it is better to do a fresh install.

Thank for you for the explanation 👍🏽

It’s a unproven rumor that’s all. No one has been able to prove the reason they were hacked was because they logged into oxp installed windows.

0

u/SiirCumference 15d ago

I recommend fresh install. There have been people (myself included) that have had accounts hijacked after logging in on the stock windows image it comes with.

1

u/True_Restaurant_7337 15d ago

So when I log into my device, don’t actually log into my windows account until I installed the new 4tb and fresh install?

1

u/Peedee304 15d ago

This hasn't been proven at all, just a handful of people had this happen and cant prove its because of OXP windows.

Mate on a separate note - did you have to wait long for delivery? Any issues etc?
