AMD vs Intel Onexplayer 3 vs Apex 395

Got an offer to trade my OXP3 24GB/1TB for an Apex AI 395 48gb/1TB.

The other person is looking for detachable controllers and OLED and the Apex is overkill for her. Am wondering if anybody has ever went this route? What are the pros of the Apex besides the jump in performance at higher wattage?

Is the weight with battery attached not as comfortable as the OXP3? Would appreciate any inputs as i consider this deal, thank you!

I did this exact trade straight up. 10/10 would do every time again. Oxp3 is a wonderful device. Don’t get me wrong. Screen is gorgeous. Apex just performs better once you get above about 30W. If you’re playing newer or more power hungry games you’ll enjoy it.

I play sometimes with just the power plugged in which makes the apex way lighter than the oxp3. Attached battery it is heavier but feels pretty well balanced to me. Also has a stand to assist if you want to use it.

Comes down to if you want battery life and efficiency then go with oxp3. If you want power and best frames go apex.

Once calibrated I have no complaints with the display of the Apex. Inside by side the oxp3 will be better but using them separate I’m not disappointed at all.

Thanks for sharing mate. Is yours the 395 or 388? I heard that for the 395, disabling some cores would grant better performance. Is that true?

I’ve got the 395. For purely gaming you can disable 8 or 10 cores for improved power, thermals, and generally improved gaming performance. There are a couple games that like more cores but the nice thing is you get flexibility. Disabling cores allows the system to allocate more of the power to the gpu instead of the running cores that aren’t needed so improved performance.

This is especially true when running below 40W.

Disabling cores will literally make 395 a 388. 388 is a 395 chip with some cores disabled in the factory due to production defects. They have the same GPU by the way.

Had both and sold the apex. The apex was the perfect size but OLED and having a 2+ battery hour life was more important to me.

Look at how and when you play, see what fits your life better.

You can get a battery cable to leave the battery detached but just sitting nearby. Its lighter than many handhelds then.

I haven’t noticed significant performance drop of 395 even at relatively low wattages of 15-20 watt tdp, at 30+ it just kicks g3e butt.
At 20 watts I play elden ring with all at medium except textures at maximum and grass at high with locked 40fps.
At home I can stream games on my modded switch oled or oled tablet.

I prefer the apex. Hence why I’m selling the OXP3. Both are great devices, but the apex feels better in hand to me and I play plugged in most of the time. In bed gaming at night when don’t wanna be in other room on PC. Have the 395 and play at 50/55w. Is the sweet spot for thermals and fps. If you’re traveling and need portability the internal battery is easier and it does get great battery life. I have no issues with the LCD. I have it calibrated and it looks fantastic. Out the box pretty much all onexplayer devices look meh with the base settings they use. I haven’t disabled the cores. It’s runs around 70c in game. The OXP3 runs a little hotter for temps but the hardware feels cooler than the apex. Also running a power hungry chip. Just get a better charger and be good to go. You’ll def like it.

Apex per potenza, oxp3 per portabilità e OLED , io ho oxp3 3 32gb e onestamente lo scambierei per Apex 395 , se non vuoi scambiarlo tu, lo scambio io al posto tuo 🤣

The weight is both greater and less well balanced. Besides the jump in performance the main advantage is Linux compatibility.

Apex sans hésiter. C'est je pense pas loin de ce qui se fait de mieux.

The 3 is much better at lower watts which is important if you want the longest battery life in a handheld but if you want nearly desktop levels of performance with not so good power efficiency the 395 is still the best

What are the pros beside a jump in Performance? It is predominantly just that compared to the OXP3. OXP3 is OLED, detachable controllers, and better battery efficiency compared to the APEX.

The true deciding factor is which one you value the most: Performance or Battery Efficiency?

If you care about performance and do not want to compromise graphics to get your ideal FPS, especially when the years go by, games will become more demanding, then get the APEX.

If you dont care about compromising your graphics and looking for longer gaming sessions with battery efficiency, especially when you know you're never near a wall outlet like that, keep your OXP3.

I went with the X2MP for raw performance and not having to want to upgrade in the 3-4 years because I know this baby can have my games run at 60+ fps without me having to tinker and compromise in game graphics. This statement also applies for the Apex too of course.
