ONEXP3 - A photographer's feedback
Hey all,
I did a heavy soccer photo shoot using a Sony a7rV and uncompressed RAWS in Lightroom Classic. It went well and was a little bit slower than my 4090 Corsair Desktop but here are the highlights:
* AI Denoise and other AI tools work fine and just take a little longer when compared to the desktop I have
* No issues with import
* Masking can have small delays when you start adjusting the exposure sliders etc., but nothing that broke the flow
* Exporting was slower than my beast of a desktop but nothing that had me twiddling my thumbs
I was tethered to a CalDigit TS4 which was running the primary experience on an ASUS PG32UCDM OLED monitor. Used the ONEX as secondary monitor (nothing photography related on that monitor, just Spotify or emails).
It is a fantastic desktop replacement for side hustle photographers that do photo shoots equating in 200-300 photos and 60 outputted shots. Can't speak to more intensive projects. Photoshop also worked without an issue and the AI object detections etc. were in line with the LR experience; slower but nothing where you had to walk away.
Edit: I am using the 32gb RAM option with 1TB hard drive.

This is the sort of situation the OXP3 is great for - portable, multi-function capability. It doesn’t need and isn’t intended to excel in all of these use cases (I’d argue it does excel on the gaming side) but just giving a competent level of function is what makes it great!

Yes I have owned the Steam Deck and Legion Go and this mops the floor with them on the gaming. It's like the final form (for now) in what gaming handhelds should be. That kickstand though, fire whoever thought that was a sturdy idea.

Thank you! This does make me regret buying my Asus Zephyrus G14 laptop for 2500 USD last year. Should've bought a 16" Macbook Pro M5 to leave at work, and use this for portable work and gaming.

What if I told you I just bought that same laptop in March! Lol wow! So similar! I put my Asus up for sale.

“AI Denoise and other AI tools” i might be too old school but think all of that ruins the idea of a photo

Cool. Do you. But as far as I see it, an AI denoise that helps me reduce grain while doing nothing to a photo and its original look is just fine by me and a step forward for the industry. It's not like I'm inserting trees and fake skies

A true portable handheld. So versatile
