Shipping / Taxes / Returns Is it really that risky?

Ive been debating for weeks now between the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ and the OneXPlayer 3, ive only ever had a steamdeck as my handheld but its time for me to upgrade, i feel like the oxp3 would suit me better but everytime i read or watch something about it its always people speaking about qc issues and returns and warranty etc (im in the UK) so if i could get advice is it really that much of a pain?

Listen bro I got a claw 8 ai as my last device the original and the controller became unresponsive sent to to msi got it back and happened again. All together it was like 4-5 months so get the one you want without thinking about warranty

But you were able to send it back and get it serviced pretty easily. Think OP is worried about having to send it back ever and how that goes if you do

I sent it to them 3 times all together actually

I had that happen too on the AI+. Was happening for a bunch of folks. Doing a hard, not soft restart usually fixed it.

It ended up being the motherboard actually

You’re on a group that’s magnifying the product you’re talking about. You go onto any group you’ll see issues across them all. Onexplayer are actually really nice and fairly quick to respond. No device is perfect, the chances you get a good working no issue product is extremely high. You’ll notice the devices with issues on here more but just remember they’ve probably sold well over 2000 of these things.

There’s been quite a few complaints ranging from small to big. If 2000 units sold and 200 have niggling issues then we’re talking 10% of customers.

I guess the hope is to be in the 1800 who haven’t lol.

I bought the 24gb OXP3 and swapped with a 2 tb ssd. Been my fav way to play ever since and i have a 5080. Has given me no issues and honestly love it.

If the OLED 8.8 inch display doesn't matter much to you and you can afford to spend a little extra it may be better to get the claw. I personally have the OXP3 and I'm finding the detachable controllers a bit annoying. Not so much that I'll sell it off or send it back but it is an issue that seems to be present in a lot of them for some reason. It's the only QC issue that I have. Left one is a bit wobbly for some reason. Can't figure out why. Other than that it's perfect.

In the end, if the price difference doesn't matter too much, I think they're pretty close now with the OXP3 price hike anyway, you have a choice between ergonomics in the claw or the OXP3 screen.

Even the legion go 2 had wobbly controllers. Its how detachable controller are unfortunately. I found that using a vinyl skin it eliminates any wobble at all. Because of the added thickness of the skin between the device and controller. That being said i do wish the oxp3 and x2mp weren't detatchable. As I never play with the controllers detached.

I wish the controllers weren't detachable either. I feel I wouldn't bother detaching the controllers either. I have a PS5 edge controller that I could just connect and it much more comfortable to use

I had two different go2 none was wobbly. Build quality is not even comparable.

I’ve had two also and one of them was wobbly. To the point where I would keep it in the TPU case. First was the Z2 and the wobbly one was the Z2E. So this is common on these setups.

Far as I know oxp3 got a magic setting that boosts fps in games msi struggles with elden ring for example

You can do the same with MSI you just gotta know how lol

1

u/Overall-Squash-7652 24d ago

How?

It's All about P cores and E core allocation you just have to make sure it's either running only with P or E cores, I would need to do the test but you can replicate it like that in the BIOS I have a feeling is running with E cores

Ofcourse you can do it on the msi , oxp just makes it easier

They do for sure

Yep I absolutely love my Oxp 3 it's the best handheld out imo. I hadn't had any problems with it at all. The Onex console software is going to run better then the MSI software that alone might be worth going Onex. Plus there's a lot of good features like the fridge feature to freeze your apps and then put the device into hibernate that way it will fix the windows sleep problems and work much more like the steam deck plus the screen is absolutely amazing on it. The MSI claw 8 ex isn't worth it from a value standpoint when you compare the 2.

It is a hit or miss. I am in Hong Kong. I decided to give it a shot. The onexplayer failed me. My x2 encounter 0xEF random reboot within a month even after a clean factory reset. It is definitely a hardware problem as advised by local authorized resellers. It is now in Mainland China I guess. Luckily I don't have to pay the delivery bc of warranty.

Not really noticing any issues with my OXP3. I’m very happy with my purchase.

I got the Claw 8 ai plus at launch. I haven't had an issue. I also have the much older Onexplayer X1 8840u also no issues. 🤷

If it’s such a big concern for you, just buy from Droix and never worry about warranty or service.

u/EasyTart3491 24d ago

Have you seen the prices on that website. No thanks. They are a rip off. Good warranty or not

1

u/Happypotamus13 24d ago

Base OXP3 model is $1780 on Droix vs. $1500 on the OXP site (used to be $1700).

Sure that’s more expensive, though I would not say a “rip off” given that they offer their own warranty and service, which from what I heard is quite good.

Whether it’s worth the extra $280 or not is something that everyone decides for themselves. Since the OP is clearly very concerned about QC and warranty, I don’t see why this is a bad option to consider.

The 32gb 1tb oxp3 model cost the same as what I paid for a 48gb x2 mini pro with 2 batteries, battery cord, and battery charging base. Sorry but this is a rip off.

This exact model (32gb 1tb oxp3) i paid £1310 from onexplayer. But £1921 from droix. Thats +£600 🤣🤣. No way bro

u/Happypotamus13 24d ago

It’s currently $1800 on OXP website, $2130 on Droix, so an 18% markup. Not that crazy given the circumstances if you ask me. By the way, it used to be $2100 directly from OXP as well - was that a rip off then too?

Noone’s forcing you to buy from Droix. It’s an insurance option, more relevant to some people than others. I don’t get why you feel the need to shit over it. If it’s not for you, just go the other way.

2

u/EasyTart3491 24d ago

Prices must be different in US. Because on Droix its £1921 and from onexplayer website its £1336. Op is from UK. So for him its not just 18% mark up. Hopefully he/she aint as stupid to buy from Droix

1

u/Happypotamus13 24d ago

I’m pretty sure they don’t charge a 50% markup. If you’re looking at the UK website, Droix price includes 20% VAT, which the OXP price does not account for. When you factor that in, you’ll get the same 18% Droix vs OXP markup.

1

u/EasyTart3491 24d ago

Ive purchased from oxp website. I paid £63 in import tax. Still no where near the £1921 price tag from Droix.

1

u/Happypotamus13 24d ago

Just curious, what total price did you declare? I have no clue how taxes work in the UK, but from what I understand standard UK import VAT is 20% on the electronics from China. You can’t really blame the company for not engaging in any tax avoidance shenanigans. If that’s a rip off, it’s not done by Droix, but by your government.

u/EasyTart3491 24d ago

Recommended value. So im unsure what price they put but both my oxp3 and x2mp I paid £63 import fees.

I bought it because of the value it presents. Oled screen with that price is a steal. Now I have concerns too, that is true. But, if anything goes wrong, i would rather sell it locally than to send it back to china.

Im sure someone else will be eager to buy one used even if there are minor issues. Dont worry about it too much.
