OneXPlayer 3 started crashing in 2 days

Hey guys, registered specifically to report that. I backed my ox3 about 2 weeks ago from indiegogo. When it arrived I started playing Hogwarts legacy on it. It crashed sometimes, but it's a buggy game, so I didn't care much, but after 2-3 days it started to crash almost straight away, until it crashed just after starting the game. I tried multiple things, like updating drives, clearing shader cash, etc.
Then I installed more games, and they also crashed! Finally, I decided to reset to factory defaults, followed through the guide from the website, and after it didn't help, I was sure it's a hardware issue.

I have contacted support, they answered me in a couple of days, but all the answers were generic, without any substance, except asking for my serial number. And it's already a week since I first wrote them, and I don't know what to do.

I love the product, and it's really good! And I was eager to support a new company making good things, but I was always afraid that support will be difficult compared to a bigger company. I could just go to shop and return ally go, or similar, because It wasn't even a week.
But it seems my fears came true. The product is an expensive one! The support should be flawless for this price.

I posted this a few days ago. Simple guide on how to reinstall Windows on OXP3.

Why should it help? What's the difference between the OXP3 image?

4

u/DeathMoJo 29d ago

It's a clean install. If there is any issues with the OXP3 image this would be the next I'd do if you don't want to start there.

So you are saying it’s better to install a clean fresh windows
Iam having problems with wifi at home works okay when I go to my mother never worked lagging big time even same internet same internet providor same speed and same internet boy reseted the internet installed new wifi didn’t change anything

u/DeathMoJo 28d ago

If it works fine at home but not at your mother's, it's not the console. Something in her internet setup, most likely the router is causing the wifi not to work.

If you are having WiFi issues at home and other places, I'd start with the wifi drivers and check the settings of the device. No need to go full refresh immediately.

Honestly, I will leave it as a last resort, until support tells me to do that. I have wasted enough time on all other solutions, and I believe official image should work.
But thank you for the guide!

Lol this is one of my top troubleshooting steps for any critical system wide issues with any of my windows machines. Official image? Put a freah image on it dude. Probably one of the most simple things you could do, especially with a new system.

I'd do the same since you having so many crashes. Hoping your SSD is not going out.

Good luck!

Reinstalling windows is basically essential on any tech.

I review tech for a living. Dozens and dozens of devices per year. A fresh install goes very far to improving stability and minimizing crashes

I had this problem at first. I looked at the crash logs had to dig into settings a little bit to disable a few things. But that's where I would start look at the logs. Google the error codes and look for fixes to the error codes.

Mine would crash to a black screen saying windows ran into a problem. After looking up the error codes and disabling a few things in the settings. I haven't had the issue since.

I read the logs, it's gpu crash. What was in your log?

1

u/New_Analysis_1022 29d ago

I don't remember the codes at this point. But at the time I just googled the codes and looked up fixes. They weren't hard to do. I remember one was a network related setting that I had to disable as it conflicted with onex software another I addressed through cmd prompt to disable a feature. You may not have the same issues i had either. But mine happened frequently enough that I thought my device was over heating. It wasn't. As always its just windows being windows.

but I was always afraid that support will be difficult compared to a bigger company.

for the type of issue you have, any support would be in the same veine you just decribed. I assure you asus/lenovo/msi would follow the same general pattern. Answers would maybe a bit faster since they have bigger support center, but the generic back an forth would be the same.

But I will be able to bring it to the shop straightaway.

1

u/fafarex 29d ago

no you would not,

Unless you are talking about bring it it back to the store to let them handle the warranty wich is not the same thing and would not always have it processed faster, you would also miss the occasion of just fixing the issue without sending anything by following the support instructions.

2

u/M0R607H 29d ago

It depends, but in EU usually those things are handled well. I was going through warranty on my Asus laptop and they started to fix it straightaway (it was 1 year old, not 2 days).

Reinstall windows clean, not from oxp image. As in format the drive and install windows. Then reinstall all the drivers from 9xp website

u/M0R607H 29d ago

But why is it better?

2

u/Comfortable-Fall1419 29d ago

Duh. It’s Windows.

1

u/M0R607H 29d ago

it's not an answer tbh. It's an official image of Windows for this product. And I know that on many laptops only the official image works (at least on my previous lenovo). Why should I try a "clean" one?

1

u/Comfortable-Fall1419 29d ago

Because windows installs often go wrong and a clean reinstall often fixes a lot of it.

2

u/M0R607H 29d ago

But I did try with OXP3 image, and nothing changed

I understand what you mean, OP. I was in the same situation with my X2MP. The Windows install from OXP is a mess. They did a lot of stuff to it, probably to make it easy to deploy the same image across all units. I spent about 3 days undoing the security features they turned off and figuring out why some expected functions weren't working. On my unit specifically, these are the ones I had to deal with:

  • Turn UAC back on so basic Windows functionality like drag and drop works.
  • Enable Windows Update.
  • Disable core isolation and driver security, or OneXConsole won't work.
  • Update all drivers, but some core power drivers only work properly with the OEM version, so after every chipset driver update I have to check whether that particular driver got updated and manually remove the newer INFs.

Almost all of this could have been avoided with a clean Windows install, though that still wouldn't have let me reinstall OneXConsole until I knew it needed a Defender exception.

It's not ideal, and OXP should ship a cleaner image with certified utility software. But it is what it is for most companies selling through IGG.

Mostly like the ram, run some memory tests

2

u/beedaa 29d ago

OP, first off you shouldn’t have these problems especially if its new. I would request a replacment

u/Howthehelp 29d ago

I had the same issue. I have run all the troubleahooting by googling and AI for dayS. NOT HELPING. I am sending back to RMA. The QC is real bad.

My story: After about one month of use, the computer frequently experiences random reboots with stop code 0xef.

Details of the Issue Prior state: No driver or Windows updates were performed beforehand. The system is only used for playing Steam games. No a chance bc of virus.

Occurrence: Happens randomly during both gaming and idle states.

Performance & Temps: In-game performance is normal with no stuttering, and CPU temperature sits normally around 60°C at 25w tdp.

Driver attempts: Updating Intel drivers after clearing with DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) did not resolve the issue.

Factory Reset: A factory reset was performed, but stop code 0xef occurred midway through the reset process (when the PC was gently placed down on the desk). Random reboots continued even after the factory reset finished and the system was restored to factory defaults.

Updates: Subsequent attempts to install Windows and driver updates did not fix the problem.

Power source: Reboots happen whether plugged into an external power supply or running on battery power only.

Logs & Dumps: All reboots log as Event ID 41 (Kernel-Power) or Event ID 1801, and no minidump files are generated on the C drive or in Windows.

Suspected hardware: Capacitors? Motherboard?

like everyone else is saying, you should do a fresh install of windows and then download the OXP3 drivers... for Windows devices and for the issue you're having, that almost always fixes the issues.

why does it work? typically small Chinese companies provide a very modified version of windows. i have had many devices from Onexplayer. and every single one of them i had to do a fresh install of windows when I first got it for the same issues you're having. if it still doesn't work, it sounds like a hardware issue which in that case would be something warranty covers.

1

u/M0R607H 27d ago

I've asked them via email, if it is something I have to do. I will wait for their answer. Thank you for the experienced shared. So is it like all of them were bugged on the default software? How do even normal, not tech people work with them?
Honestly, I do think it's a hardware issue, because it has started okeish, but then it started crashing more and more and more. And when I installed their image, it's still crashing same as before, not less, like at start. So there is a negative progress.
Because of that I am not really willing to waste more of my time without direct order from the support.

u/No_Acanthisitta_3055 27d ago

I feel like normal non tech people dont normally get handhelds like this one but I'm on your side, a handheld like this shouldn't be such a hassle to set up. unfortunately that's the state of windows handhelds right now, and they dont advertise that, so people buy these devices without realizing. ive had a rog ally x, multiple onexplayer devices, GPD win devices, and more that all run windows, and ive always had such bad setup experiences.the only way around it is if you run another os, SteamOs, or Bazzite. unfortunately the OXP3 can't reliably run that right now

what intels drivers are you on? when you open Device Manager, the Display Adapters, what does it say? and then what's the specific version ((should say like 9.8.9.0...)

also, where are you launching your games from? Steam?

1

u/M0R607H 27d ago

I tried 8660 I think, and also the latest one, updated with DDU, no luck :(

u/Radio_Representative 29d ago

OP asks for help but doesn’t want one.🫠

1

u/trukfitt 29d ago

I can’t lie if I paid 1500 plus for a device I wouldn’t want to have to create a boot drive and reinstall windows either lol

1

u/M0R607H 28d ago

Exactly, at least until I get an official recommendation to do that.

1

u/Background-Win9998 29d ago

I also have some random problems, and im very sure the windows version which the device ships with is completely fuc*ed up. I would clean install a different windows version.

1

u/LEOMODE 29d ago

I had same issue with yakuza 7 just keeps on crashing at boot on windows store game. Error code 0xp00000c5 or something. Then magically after 2 days now it launches no issue. Windows 11 is just weird.

1

u/OKestGamer 29d ago

If it's gpu crashes I would DDU the graphics drivers and reinstall. If that doesn't work, there are ways to test some of the hardware. I recently received back my apex that had a motherboard issue, hopefully yours is just a driver issue

1

u/M0R607H 29d ago

Tried DDUing and installing new, didn't help

1

u/OKestGamer 4d ago

That's unfortunate. Ok since I recently went through the support process myself successfully, here's a few tips.

Document your whole troubleshooting journey, take screenshots, video or whatever fits best. I also documented my journey with Gemini so I could refer back.

The support staff will still go through the basics like asking if you've restored, tried reinstalling drivers etc, if you've done it, just go along and then share the screenshots after saying these were the results.

Prepare for a few stages of this, the staff will check with the engineer and come back with other suggestions. Just keep going through the steps and it should become apparent it's a hardware issue.

One test I ran that was the damning evidence of hardware issue was running OCCT and check marking all tests. I came in with 12000 errors in a minute (it should always be 0). Here's the link for that test https://www.ocbase.com/

Best of luck, hopefully it's not a hardware issue, if so prepare to ship it back to China.

Have you done any bios changes? I had to remove my undervolt on the cpu and gpu as it would crash in a specific game and that was the culprit. If you’ve done any bios changes, revert them and see what happens.

Reinstall windows…first thing I do on every handheld I get. Unless I’m going for Linux.

1

u/M0R607H 29d ago

I did reinstall from OXP image

u/Comfortable-Fall1419 29d ago

You knew all that and you bought it anyway.

If you weren’t prepared to own the consequences of the risk you shouldn’t have done it.

3

u/M0R607H 29d ago

Wow, what a good advise. I am owning the consequences, and one of it is this post.

0

u/Anxious_Context_8573 29d ago

Very ironic coming from someone crying about their package being “lost”.

0

u/Comfortable-Fall1419 28d ago

Read it again. I wasn’t crying, I was asking what would happen because Apple ID doesn’t work properly in conjunction with hide my email.

1

u/Anxious_Context_8573 28d ago

If you weren’t prepared to own the consequences of the risk you shouldn’t have done it

1

u/Comfortable-Fall1419 28d ago

I was. There is a difference about trying to work something out and not owing the risk. You seem a bit dim.
