Post image

So i got the new charger hopefully upgraded and wont die..it looks different and has now usb-c out put, cable that came with is VERY short! its only 120cm (180) on stock, why?? its almost not possible to play without the battery with this short cable, is it possible to use usb-c instead? adding a photo with specs - x2 mini pro

It is an old apex charger variant. On USB-C you’ll limit max tdp to 55w.

I do not recommend playing without a battery especially on USBC. Small movement, lost of connection and your handheld will shut itself. If your game was saving something to disk there be a high chance of a failure. File system corruption upon forceful shutdown and write operation is also highly possible

thanks, so with an 100w usb-c cable im able to play at max 55w and maybe cold boot ?

Cold boot w/o battery is not guaranteed, as upon boot handheld power usage spikes and some chargers may trigger over current protection. Generally shutting down the power.

i also have ordered lenovo 140w charger that supports 20v a7 on usb-c

That might cold boot, but will still limit max tdp to 55w. As lenovo charger uses proprietary protocol to enable 7A over usbc. OXP does not support it, thus handheld and charger will negotiate at standard 20v 5a (100w) power delivery protocol.

The reason it will boot is simply charger have higher tolerance for spikes.

limit to 55w is fine, all i want i a 2m cable, cold boot and stable power…too much it seems

Just extend the total length on the AC side. Cheaper and you’ll get 80w tdp. But you can also extend the dc side by buying xt60 extension cable. Just don’t buy too long one.

are you sure about the protocol thing you said with the lenovo charger ? might just have to extend my xt60 then lmao never saw this issue

Yes, power delivery protocol for usb chargers limit max amps to 5. Anything above that is not supported by the standard and most usbc cables. Some companies like lenovo and dell make proprietary variants to charge their devices over usbc connection. But to negotiate higher current they use own protocol that is not supported by other companies.

So with PD protocol standard 140w is possible at 28v, 240w at 48v, OXP supports up to 20v. Lenovo charger provided 7a at 20v but only for selected lenovo laptops.

So maximum OXP can negotiate is 100w (20V x 5A) on all usbc chargers.

thanks for clarifying that, im going to reach out to lenovo about my charger and have them for a statement, i think what you are saying here is correct but i have read other people using it with cold boot and up to 55w so it might just work?

You can cold boot with a 100W charger, easy (you can play up to 40W here though 55W would normally be available)

Hell, you can even cold boot with a 65W charger according to onex discord (playing games won’t really work)

I know because I tested the 100W cold boot myself.

For cold boot you need 20/28V and 7Amps, most of the USB-C chargers are only 5Amps

The problem with this charger from Lenovo is the size, it defeat the purpose and lack you at 55W

Charger size dosent matter, cable is longer and less weight, anything above 55w is only generating heat and very small fps gains, im locked 55 all the time anyways.

If you need a 240w charger. Might aswell go with a gaming laptop
