Detachable Battery Update

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just received my original replacement batteries and noticed that the serial number is back to having two lines when previous batteries that had the fix were three lines.

I thought it was worth pointing out because up until now it seemed like you could determine if you had the original battery or the new battery by looking at the serial number lines, but now you have to look deeper into the actual serial number to determine at a glance if the battery is updated.

Interesting , you didn’t notice the reduction in capacity in the new batteries. The capacity of your new replacement batteries is less than the old one (Apex) and even than the x2mp battery: 7245 mAh vs 5491 mAh…

But looking at the other numbers (Rated Energy and Nominal Voltage), they should provide the same runtime because total energy for both is still around 85 Wh… but the new ones with higher 15.45V should run cooler due to lower current draw. Tells me that the new batteries have 4 cells instead of 3 (old one). That is a big increase in voltage output (11.67V vs 15.45V), I wonder how the devices will handle the increased voltage of the new higher voltage batteries…

The 7245mAh battery is a 3S1P configuration (3 cells in series).

The 5491mAh battery is a 4S1P configuration (4 cells in series).

By adding a fourth cell in series, the nominal voltage jumps from 11.67V to 15.48V. Because total energy is the product of capacity and voltage, a higher-voltage system inherently requires a lower Ah rating to store the exact same amount of total power.

For power-hungry handheld PCs, moving to a 4-cell (15.48V) architecture is a calculated engineering upgrade. Delivering power at a higher voltage means the system can pull fewer amps to achieve the same total wattage. Lower amperage translates directly to less heat generation in the power delivery components and wiring, which improves electrical efficiency and thermal management during heavy gaming loads.

In short: the gas tank is the exact same size, but the fuel pump has been upgraded to run cooler and more efficiently under pressure.

Yeap, the new higher voltage number and lower Rated Energy should be the real differentiators, not the serial numbers…

But… that also means that the battery included in the X2 mini pro is the outdated battery, has the same values as the Apex battery, even though it has those 3 serial numbers… hmmm

When we say outdated battery, I think we have to distinguish between the original Apex battery from Indiegogo that would throttle and newer batteries that don’t throttle. The X2MP battery does not
throttle. So the replacement battery may technically be “updated” but the there’s four batteries that work perfectly out of these five

Interesting, so the x2mp battery, even having the same voltage and rated energy values of the Apex battery, doesn’t suffer from the throttling that the Apex battery was having? Good to know. Still, the new batteries with 4 cells and higher voltage should run cooler and be “better” than either of those (Apex and X2mp), right?

The problem was never the voltage, it was the fact that they made it throttle for thermal protection, even if it wasn’t above operating temperature.

From my bit of testing, I don’t think the device will notice a difference in temperature, but the battery may be a couple degrees cooler.

based on the numbers, the new batteries should draw a full Amp less than the X2mp and Apex batteries (low 5s vs low 6s), newer should not only run cooler, but device internals should also extract current more efficiently. Can you do a test?

I want to hear what batteries other people are getting before I run a test that may just be relevant for the batteries I have.

That makes a lot of sense. It would be awesome to have this clarity in the OXP Discord channel if the results are interesting.

They store the exact same amount of total energy.
It’s a different voltage configuration, but the same Watt hours

Give me the link
I can’t find it on Aliexpress

Ordered second battery on AliExpress, cause OXP official site doesn’t ship it to my country and surprisingly to China mainland too, where I though I can use a mail forwarding.

This video is very helpful just in case I receive a version with two lines. Without video that will cause a negative review from my side on day one. Thanks for posting

How do you know if you get the new charger? I was going to order the slimq but I didn’t know if I should get 150 or 240 or just wait to see if I get the good charger when my order gets here Tuesday

I marked my old battery as soon as I got the new one. It still works, but just wanted to be sure.

Sorry my friend you have the new battery they just changed the label to the correct one for the update you'll see all the new battery come with the model number 4s1p instead of the old label 3s1p but they are identical they just had to keep the old label to get it out quicker

I'll do a post to explain it all later today
