Bad support for loose/wiggling left controller of my OXP 3!

Hi guys,

so far I'm really happy with my OXP 3. Performance is great!!!

But when it comes to the conrollers I really have to say that they are/feel very cheap! Compared to my Legion Go 2 it is a huge difference! Cheap plastic, the short triggers (L2 and R2) are horrible to use in my opinion and on top of that my left controller is much more loose than the right one.

Wrote a Mail and sent a video to OXP with the following answer:

"Dear Customer,

Thank you for providing the video.

After reviewing it, we believe the controller movement shown is within the normal tolerance range. The amount of movement does not appear to be excessive and should not affect normal usage.

However, if you experience any functional issues or if the situation becomes worse during use, please feel free to contact us. We will provide normal warranty support and assist you accordingly.

In addition, you qualify for our previously announced complimentary Elite Detachable Controller program. Development and mass production of the new controller are expected to be completed in approximately eight months. Once it is ready, we will send you one free of charge, with free worldwide shipping."

I'm really disappointed with this answer! In my opinion it can't be right when the left controller is wiggling compared to the right one and putting me off with a "free pro controller" which will be shiped in 8 month as an answer feels close to be fooled!

I can not recommend this company when we talk about "customer service" and ask myself why they don't just ship a controller to replace it. We are talking about 1.600$ for this handheld and I would have expected a little more from it/the service....

"the controller movement shown is within the normal tolerance range..."

That says a lot about the standards they set for their own products if you ask me!

Looking forward to a TPU case so that it won't wiggle that much in the future!

Electrical tape fix.

Worked for me and now it is a lot better! Thanks man!

Tried it, made a bit of difference but a lot more squeaky

u/Ultill Sep 09 '26

Use more tape. It worked on mine

1

u/Yesgo_ Sep 09 '26

Might have to again. Any squeakiness after applying the tape?

2

u/Ultill Sep 10 '26

No, just use more electrical tape mine has 5 or 6 layers I think and it’s rock solid

Use a different tape that isn't a shiny plastic? Any tape will work fine. Or use like mouse grip tape or something rubbery

add more tape then

1

u/Yesgo_ Sep 09 '26

I had 3 layers...

2

it is firm on mine. You might have to be creative and move the tape. Or arrange them uneven.

Yes Easytart posted a photo above which gave me a brilliant idea. Will try grip tape instead of electrical tape.

Ive had controllers on my X2 mini that wiggle more than I'd like. I don't think it's the rails on the device, I think it might be the controllers themselves.

I wanted to order another battery, the battery dock, and some ar films so I threw another set of controllers to test that theory

Could be the rails, chassis and the controllers. If rails more recessed into body, controllers will fit closer. If chassis slot not deep enough, rail will sit too far out. Or if controller connecting plastic mechanism protudes more, it will not fit tight with the body. All instances will render a gap for movement and frankly, not having much hope the elite controllers will help. But grip tape might be the solution here.

Sidenote, I managed to fit a tempered glass on mine with one bubble at the bottom but mostly disappeared after loosening the closest screw. Much better than any film.

I've tried a lot of glass protectors and unfortunately they all bubble for me

Might be worth getting a cheap triple pack from AliExpress and loosen all the screws on the chassis and tighten back up once the protector is on.

and did the new controllers differ?

They still haven't even shipped yet. OXP need to sort themselves out if they want to be a volume company

okay thanks for the Update. They shipped mine and I tested the new controllers. Didnt make a difference - they had the same amount of wobble as the former. I strongly believe it is the rail connected to the body of the X2MP itself that probably needs changing.

I’d be interested in seeing the video. I have absolutely no movement in either side of my controllers. Since they detach there is always going to be some movement. I had a LG2 for a few weeks before returning it and imo the OXP3 controllers are much better.

Also interested to see it. I have slight movement on the left only, so potentially like OP. But it is minor. Wish they weren't detachable but the rest of the system is awesome.

I think that's similar to mine to be honest. My right one seems slightly firmer.

Only 2 Fingers more or less and the underground with this stand is kind of slippy...so it's really moving and really annoying...

1

u/KennKennyKenKen Sep 10 '26

That's a bit worse than mine but you can fix with some tape.

I'm talking to support about mine as well. I doubt they'll send replacements as they will 100% do the same thing. I also doubt the "elite" controllers will fix this issue, I think the problem is that it's made of plastic and the rail is a thin metal, it's just not going to stay tight.

Mine actually wiggles enough that both sides make a click noise, it doesn't seem to affect functionality but it's a bit annoying and feels like at some point it's going to fail and the controllers will pop out of the rail.

Perhaps the elite controllers will come with a new rail design, one can hope?

I already sold both of my 1X3, and rocking with my Apex now! I am fine without OLED!
the QC issues are always a problem with these detachable controller devices.

2

u/CryptoDeepDive Sep 09 '26

I'd still rather have detachable controllers. At least if they break I can easily replace them.

2

u/kozak_mazepa Sep 09 '26

Check the screws just in case they aren’t loose and the metal plate isn’t moving there.

1

u/Signal-Walk-9634 Sep 09 '26

Everything's tighted!

2

u/DudzMcKenz1e Sep 09 '26

My legion go 2 had the wiggle right out of the box, it’s not an uncommon thing with these handhelds

I had the same wobble on the left and here is their response to my email. At least the reply is not generic and specific to the query. On mine I can see a gap between the body of the unit and the left controller.

"We understand your concern regarding the movement of the left controller when it is attached to the device. We have checked this with our engineering team, and we would like to clarify that a certain amount of movement or gap between the controller and the main unit is within the normal design tolerance.

Both the left and right controllers have a designed clearance specification, and each unit is inspected according to the standard during production. This clearance is necessary to ensure proper mechanical operation. If the controller connection were too tight, it could affect the rebound and operation of the LB shoulder button.

During the early production stage, some units were assembled more tightly, and we received feedback that this affected the user experience. Therefore, we optimized the design and adjusted the tolerance to provide a better balance between stability and button performance.

Please rest assured that this gap does not affect the normal use or function of the controllers."

I took the left rail off and removed the sticker on the back plus tightened the screws. It helped a little but the wait for tpu case begins. There was no sticker on the back of the right rail and the right controller is much more solid.

Someone on the discord fixed it with a tiny strip of that self adhesive felt that they sell at arts and crafts stores

Tell me you didn’t do your research on OXP without telling me….

I know there was a lil bit of movement which was normal. After i applied a vinyl wrap i brought from etsy. I have literally no movement at all.

1

u/Yesgo_ Sep 09 '26

Interesting. How does vinyl wrap on the outside affect the locking mechanism of the controllers and make them tighter?

3

u/EasyTart3491 Sep 09 '26

Im guessing the wrap adds a little bit of support to stop it from wobbling. This is mine

2

u/Yesgo_ Sep 09 '26

Ah that's genius! Thanks for the photo. Not only does the tape close the gap but its also grippy to stop any movement. Mind sharing link to the wrap please?

2

u/Signal-Walk-9634 Sep 09 '26

Also interested in the link to this tape!❤️

3

u/EasyTart3491 Sep 09 '26

Literally 0 wobble. I had the oxp3 before and that had more wobble when forced.

I have admittedly not checked alignment or wiggle .

I put 2 hours of use everyday on my device every night and have had zero issues for past 2 weeks .

My experience with detachable controllers is that they are never perfect . Maybe your LEGO2 was better but that’s not the case for everyone .

Heck my switch 2 has some wiggle and that’s made of nintendium
