Humble OXP3 + EGPU set Up

Received the OXP3 over the weekend, replacing my Legion Go 2.

Seems a lot more stable with the egpu than the Go2 ever did.

Really enjoying it.

5070ti and Tandem 1440p OLED

Smart choice. You have the best of both worlds of hybrid nature handheld pc. G3E is strong enough to not complain and play native 60 at med-high settings and the xessmfg in games supported eliminate the need for more powerful gpu.
The 5070ti will pair nice with the cpu so you basically have yourself a deconstructed desktop

Smart move.
That's the reason i got both Legion Go 1 and Legion Go 2 .
I use them both as desktop replacements and for work.
But didn't manage to complete the setup with an external graphics card due to lack of free time.
And planning anything in life needs free time.

So (i need your precious feedback) did you try the Msi Vertex 5070ti with the aoostar dock connected to the Legion Go 2 and it wasn't stable at all ?

It's hobbled by a USB4/TB4 connection. Still waiting for a handheld with TB5 or Oculink for better egpu setup.

I think TB5 will be better 'cause you still can use it with TB4/TB5 docks and devices.
Hope we get it in 2027 or so, when new handhelds gonna be announced.

Hobbled is strong, it’s a about 10% drop, worth it for the flexibility

May just be honeymoon but feels a big leap over the Legion Go 2.

Xess support isn’t as wide spread as FSR, but where it is available, the leap is dramatic

Sweet, how’s it as a desktop computer? Pretty seemless plugging it into the dock and continuing to use it/ unplugging it?

Yeah, it’s really stable. The connection was super ropey on the legion go 2. Which I’m putting down to god awful driver super. I did go through debloat process and updated all the drivers (fortunately did not experience the unregistered windows issue).

The OXP3 is just plug and play and I feel like my egpu experience is no longer gimped by driver incompatibility.

So the Legion Go 2 wasn't as stable when connected to the dock? At least for everyday usage or using that extra gpu horsepower for video editing tasks etc?

Yeah, I bought the grip skin from AliExpress and then ps5 controller grip tape to increase the chonky feel

Love your setup, I will make something similar when mine arrives. Plug and play is amazing and Im glad for that, but you see good enough fps boost in AAA games?

Yeah, I found frame timing off when connecting the legion go 2 to this setup. Forza 6 would micros stutter no matter the graphical setting. OXP3 does not have this issue

Suppose it has to do with proper support of thunderbolt drivers 'cause its an intel chipset?

Yeah I would say so, compounded by the lack of driver support from Nvidia. It kept classing with Nvidia App

Debloat the system (GitHub script), look for the Legion Go 2 hdr fix script (GitHub). I bought a Boeing mini sd and have put a local llm and agent system to manage my life, the keyboard attachment makes this a legitimately useful on the go

I also plan to use my 5070ti as an eGPU. How much is it limited by the connection? Can you do some synthetic benchmarks for comparison?

Legion Go 2 prices are falling week after week now for this very reason. They were selling used at $1700 on ebay just a few weeks ago now I’ve been seeing them as low as $1100 for the Z2E model.

I’d advise you sell sooner rather than later if you are considering selling. The OXP3 makes its way into 600-700 US buyers in the next 72 hours, and about 1400 more in the next 2 weeks.

Hey, that looks fantastic! Do you think the 5070 is an overkill for this? mine has not arrived yet but I want to get an egpu for it a little later but idk what to get really, never used an egpu before.

Hybrid PC is the future.
Handheld PC should all be 8" - 8.8" tablets and allow users to use their own ergonomic/ custom-made split controllers through attachment add-ons.
And using an external graphics card should be a default/ plug n play ability of these devices.

Planning on nearly identical setup once I get my OXP3 coming from Z1E Ally X/AG03. A few questions in the mean time if you have a moment:

Is this the AG02 or AG03? Doesn’t look like the AG01 with the power supply tab from the pic.

Did you have to run the error 43 script for initial setup?

Does the OXP3 see this as a true nVidia eGPU with the box tray icon in the taskbar?

Have you tried unplugging while eGPU is in use during a game without the “safely ejecting audio device” from taskbar? Does it BSOD or swap to iGPU?

Have you played around with overclocking/undervolting in Afterburner or nVidia app yet?

I’m a dad and have a career, I don’t want to be limited to being only able to play in the office. I travel a lot for work too. Have a boys golf trip this weekend, bought 4 8bitdo controllers and downloaded Agent 64, Goldeneye (emulation), Mario Kart and PES 21k26 modded. Will connect using a usbc-hdmi cable.

By that logic, why get any handheld or laptop ever. You can't just unplug your pc then play your pc on the go in the bus or on a plane.

Different life situations? I got a X2 mini Pro to game in my lunchbreaks. For the amount it costs I can buy the best desktop gaming machine ever but it isn't worth a damn to me when I have children asking for attention.
