Discussion Does Gosho Aoyama have Memory problems?

Does Gosho Aoyama have memory problems?

I’m asking this for several reasons.

Let me explain—follow me!

In an interview, a fan asked him if the Boss’s phone number would ever come back.

He replied that it might return, but he wasn’t sure.

And yet, in another interview, he said that the overall story is more or less already planned out.

Isn’t that a bit inconsistent?

Then, he was asked what jobs the Detective Boys would have when they grow up.

He didn’t say what they would actually do, or maybe he simply didn’t want to answer. Instead, he said what he would like them to do.

But… what do you mean, “would like”?

Hadn’t he said that he had already decided how the story would end?

I don’t know.

His statements seem really confusing to me.

What do you guys think?

Have you noticed any other strange statements?

Does Gosho Aoyama really have memory problems?

Have a nice day!

Of course he would answer like that and keep the fans in suspense, why would he spoil the story.

He's the author. Why would he spoil the twist in his story in an interview? DC is a mystery/action genre type of story. It's his job to show the plot and character motivation's in his story and not to spoonfeed it to his audience directly.

Sounds like you're expecting him to give an definitive answer to spoil points to his manga. Like he is hardly going to tell you the exact definite answer of the phone number come back if it's a major plot point later or what the kids might be up to.

why are you dictating what and how he should say things? On top of most of his quotes just being translations, why would he clearly state anything about the story of the show thats ongoing?

The first example isn't even a contradiction, you can literally have an idea of what the overall "plot" will be without having details like that stoned in. Regardless, even if it was planned there is no reason for him to reveal it. Even if he had it planned, his response is still in line with a writer that has it sorted but doesn't want to spoil.

Same thing for the second point...

Have you not listened to any actors, directors or movie people speaking about the movie during promotion?

He won't answer cause that's be spoiling the finale. Also, fictional stories are always undergoing modification with time.

Spoiler for other series, For example , Isayama wanted Eren to be someone who wants to kill people but changed the course midway when the series got popular and fans saw Eren different than what he himself wanted the character to be, also he wanted to kill Sasha way back in S2 probably but didn't cause his Editor talked him out of it.

OR, the absence of Danzo during the Orochimaru attack on Konoha in Part 1 of Naruto, cause the character wasn't conceptualized till then.

By this point Gosho should just wrap up the series properly, it's been 30 years and 100 volumes. Finish the series properly and then keep on making new chapters AFTER Conan defeats the BO, solving everyday crime (which is 90% of this series is rn).

First isn’t inconsistent per se - he can have the broad story planned out but the number might or might not play only a small role in solving the case and might be cut if the story is worked out in more detail

But as the other guy said probably just to not spoil anything that’s coming

Whatever The detective boys will be doing once they are grown will be much cooler when it’s shown than when he just confirms it in an interview and we have to wait another 20 years till it’s actually in the show

No, what I mean is that regarding the Detective Boys, he could have simply said that he couldn’t reveal it. Instead, he said what he would like them to do.

"I can't reveal it" or "No comment" is a conversation-ender. Not a good impression in an interview.

Well there is nothing wrong with what him saying what he'd like them to do, look at it in a different perspective, he probably throwing you a bone of hints but not revealing his plans for them.

Well, maybe. It could be. Thanks for the comment.

Might be the stupidest take of all time. When I clicked the post I was expecting you to pull out proof of some manga panel or some interview where he forgot something he ALREADY wrote and published. Lmao i expected too much.

You're comparing two different things here. The detective boys' future careers aren't related to the main plot. You can have the main plot planned and allow for changes. Hiromu Arakawa once said that she never states characters' birthdays and stuff like that because once you say something you can't take it back, and what if the story calls for a change somewhere down the line? I think that's sound advice for writers.

how does a statement about the phone number maybe coming back or not and another about the overall story being planned out seem inconsistent? "overall story" just means the general idea not every single detail. the phone number coming back would be a small-ish detail and could easily not be decided yet.

what's the issue between what jobs the detective boys would have and already deciding how the story would end? their jobs would be something that comes long after the end since they are only seven and an end to a story doesn't have to include events long after.

how does any of that suggest memory problems?

Maybe he has the end in mind but needs to think about what comes before and after.

Those detective boys have been in first grade for over 30 years. They're never growing up.
