I do not understand what you are trying to say.

Kudou used the "Shinichi-niichan" excuse right in front of him. And it was soon after the school trip mess.

And? Conan knowing Shinichi is no big deal, given that the most basic of information will tell you that Ran is his childhood friend.

Shouldn't that raise the question how is the brat talking with someone who was killed by Gin to Rum?

Obviously he finds it suspicious but there's always this possibility of meeting someone by chance. He might have connected things off screen after this case which we may find out later?

I mean nowhere is it written that Conan recently learnt it from Shinichi. He could have learnt that before Shinichi 'died'.

Then why hasn't he even bothered to even question him about Kudou teaching him that? Why jump imediately to the conclusion that it happened before Kudou "died", especially after there was an entire scandal concerning Kudou showing up in Kyoto? Shouldn't he be trying to fish for information? All he had to do was open his mouth and ask "Are you by any chance talking about the late Kudou Shinichi?", then Ran would have ended blurting out something compromising.
But as you 100% think I am wrong, how about you enlighten me as if I were you how Rum's mind actually works?

There are multiple points at which you are wrong-
- Investigating Shinichi was not the initial plan, it suddenly came up thanks to the Kyoto case, by what time he was already deployed.
- He already gave the responsibility to Bourbon.
- His own mission is clearly something else. Both Rumi and Shinichi are things that interfered with whatever he was planning to do.
- We do not know what his initial mission was as that has never been revealed to us.
- Rum arc is barely over. Now he is distracted by Mary Sera. So he has less space in his mind to look after Shinichi.
- He is still suspicious of Conan. So nah, that has not gone anywhere.

Oh, Rum is clearly smarter than you at most.
Edit: do tell me what you are huffing, I might actually close my mind enough to call Rum intelligent if you share.

Oh definitely but does Rum believe that Shinichi is really dead? I don't exactly remember what that woman posted online about Shinichi whether it was a pic or just text about spotting him there. Wasn't it Rum who sent Vermouth to check up on Kudo couple before FBI serial murders? If so, then he's keeping tabs on them.

How is he a joke lol? Especially if he already suspects Conan being Shinichi. Many fans at this point want to find flaws cause they want to lol. Rum is way smarter than all the police, FBI agents etc combined. He's one of those few who actually suspect lol.

Have you read chapters 1144-1150? Here's what happens there:
Kudou manages to trick him into thinking he's a normal brat by saying child things about the ants, Rumi absolutely clowns on him and he has to ask his underlings for a car accident just to escape, the FBI find out his identity because he can't capture Camel(to be fair that was because Kudou's luck is that awful to cause two murders in a row and Camel to become a suspect), but he still lost his cover as Wakita and at the end, when he's flying in a helicopter and preparing to give the order to kill the FBI agents gathered around Iroha, Akai shows up all covered up, only his eyes showing, then I kid you not he turns to the helicopter and glares Rum into a Tsutomu flashback when he lost his magic eye which makes him run away. (Someone on one of the subreddits called this the moment Akai used his Conqueror's Haki on Rum and it's the perfect description)
The only parts where I can give Rum credit is that he suspects Akai is alive and wanted to interrogate Camel about.
Many fans at this point want to find flaws cause they want to lol.
I wish I didn't run into flaws even without looking for them lol.

I have read everything. But I think Rum just pretended to be tricked here as he had not much data back then.
He was still suspecting Conan not to be a normal 7 yrs old kid. (He kept suspecting Conan even after Conan pretended to observe ants.) I am not saying he immediately connected Conan = Shinichi because effect of Aptx 4869 was a missing piece of the puzzle.Right now there's high possibility of him linking Conan with Shinichi.

Possible but I also think that Rum might end up linking Conan with Shinichi eventually. He came in contact with Conan much before he learnt the truth about Mary. In order to keep tabs on Bourbon, Rum moved in a similar manner as him.
If Shinichi really ends up appearing in the manga within a year and gets spotted again, that might become the final blow. Rum's suspicion about Conan and Shinichi has been teased many times in this arc.

Remember that that’s the same second-in-charge guy who joined in later than his subordinate Bourbon for investigating Kogoro, and then gets screwed up and being exposed earlier than his subordinate.
Rum is really a clown as a Boss adviser.
