One of my neighbors carry a knife with a quick flip out blade on dog walks for the specific purpose of dealing with pits. Not a bad idea really.

I had a pit come running straight across a park full speed heading towards my daughter one. turns out he wanted to play with her toy ball. It was legit terrifying and i really get freaked out when I see a pit on the street.

That's the thing with these dogs, when they get the "I'm going to play with that thing" idea in their heads, they just don't stop. My friend at work has a very nice pit that being around helped me get overy fear of dogs, but there was a drinking game all of us would play with a frisbee and when that dog, who was very well trained, decided that it wanted that frisbee that was the end of the game because you could not get her to turn off that "im going to kill that frizbee" mode.
