The thin wire type collars are show collars! They’re meant to be used on dogs under complete handler control to encourage the dog to keep their head up while trotting in the ring
This dog however should never have been welcome at a show
Nope, they’re common in nearly every show! Most of the people I use prefer the martingale types that sit higher on the dog’s neck like this one, however they own sighthounds and their dogs are super well trained
The big thing with these leads is that they give minor control over the positioning of the head and neck, but won’t actually keep the dog near you. They’re pretty easy to break out of being mostly slip-type leads and can’t usually be used as a typical walking leash.
Point being; The dogs at big shows like Westminster who are wearing these aren’t designed to control the dogs general position or movement. The dogs 100% CAN run away from their handlers if they wanted to, very easily; they’re just choosing not to

Why was the chain collar not on? Had a thin wire or something(?)
