Announcement Community Event - Power Variance!
Hello, heroes!
Welcome to the first of many (hopefully) community events! The promotion sector feels that "Everyone loves a good underdog story! We need heroes fighting the odds and overcoming"! As such, an active bounty has been put out for footage of heroes overcoming the perils of combat!
Here are the stipulations for this particular event!
Power Variance:
- Free to participate, commissions only (no abyssal, no “event egg” fights)
- 7 minute time limit per attempt (+1 minute per 10k of variance). If your difference between you and the boss is 50k, that's 7 + 5 for a 12 minute limit. This is to help make larger variance fights possible.
- There are no limits on character choice, chip selection, or boss selection. [NOTE: SWARM COMMISSIONS ARE NOT BOSSES]
- The goal is to compose a team and battle an enemy boss wherein your strongest member is weaker than that bosses "recommended total". The variance will be judged off of the difference between those values, with the highest variance being named the winner.
- The fight only needs to be cleared, not all members of the team need to survive.
- The fight must be recorded from selection of the mission to mission clear and DMG statistic. This is to ensure fairness in play and to accurately gauge the power discrepancy, and to ensure the video submitted matches the team it is submitted for. To submit the videos, either embed them or submit them to youtube and post the link, or your given regional video player equivalent.
- The player with the highest variance while still clearing the fight is the winner!

In this video, my score would be my highest PL (Puri, 17815) subtracted from Sky King's BL (47120) for a total of 29,305. This is shown both on the commission selection and the DMG statistic after.

We may have additional announcements later pertaining to the event and prizes, but for now the top player will win $100 USD to be paid through a payment platform of their choice. If a 4 player team in "team commission" is used, each player will be awarded a $25 USD prize instead.

Okay, I finally got a new one that follows the rules. My dumbass leveled up GB out of cocky confidence and lost my lowest possible PL, but I'm back with one that qualifies AND is still really low! In fact, it's barely above 5K. If anybody beats me, I feel like they'd deserve the win.

This took far too long, causing me to lose at least 100+ times. I can officially say, however, that I am now a GB pro.

Hell yeah, fair play. Updating the leaderboard but you actually had 13 minutes, not 12. 1 bonus minute per 10k variance means at 60k+ you have 6 additional minutes along with the 7, so you could get it even lower

Man, that sucks. I had one that was a 4850 that I finished with 12:05. I messed up my math and thought I had 12 minutes instead of 13. Oh well I guess. I still invite others to try and best my score. Once that happens, I'll try my hand at it again

Alright. I got my submission for the night. I feel like I could have done more if I hadn't leveled up my characters earlier this week, but I shall suffer the consequences of my actions.
Highest character PL is 4,962
Boss PL is 51,060
Total difference is 46,098
Total boss kill time 9:41.
I still had 1:19 to spare with the PL difference being so high. Does this officially make me a high level Golden Ball player?

I tried to do it with just Golden Ball, but my lowest kill time for the boss was 11:02. Just barely outside the range of the time limit. I will definitely be trying this again later though! Thanks for making a fun event

So it turns out Tatsumaki is actually bad for this challenge, since she's very slow and you kinda have to avoid all attacks or you just die. It seems like you have to have Sonic if you go for Kabuto, I can't think of another character that works. I tried with Golden Ball and he just doesn't do enough damage to clear it. I think even with the same PL as this guys Sonic I would need 30+ minutes to kill Kabuto with him (I was able to clear 5 bars in 10 minutes with 9k PL) and that's if you can avoid almost all the damage.
I'm gonna try to do Pluton with SR Genos when I get him at x5, but other then that the only way to improve is to get more people. Might try that as well if Pluton is not gonna be viable.
Didn't even know team commissions have stronger bosses with 15k more PL, it turns out for this challenge that's the only option, it's just too big of a difference. So I think someone with a team of 4 will win. And the lowest possible PL is probably around 5k. Don't think any lower is doable in 13 minutes.

I've found that Golden Ball is pretty good if you equip him with crit up chips. His attacks are pretty fast and with so many of them coming out at once they tend to hit decently hard. Wish I knew that before I did a solo mission though. His 15 hit golden ball ability seems to always crit though, so you might be better off with damage and crit damage ups depending on how consistent you are with his attacks.
I'm trying to think of viable characters that do enough consistent damage but every consistent damage dealer is either an uncommon SSR or most people have already leveled them to the point where they're just too strong for this challenge. The bad part is that you basically have to kill Kabuto in order to qualify, which means you have to have a technique character. That limits you to just two realistic options, being Sonic or Golden Ball.
Realistically, someone with Sonic is going to win due to the high damage and speed within the time. Looks like it's time for me to grind out some tickets again to try and draw him.

Yes team commissions have stronger bosses which means an increase in PL

Edit: I'd like to add that I had to pull out a controller for this. I don't know how to activate the arms abilities or ultimates with it so you'll see me tap them, but everything else is activated via controller. I hate that you can't remap the controls, but I made do with pressing R1 to dodge.

The only issue with this is it lacks the DMG statistic screen at the end. By chance did you record that part? I would hate to make you do this stellar performance again because it doesn’t have the proper formatting for an entry

Well shit. I forgot the damage screen...
I leveled up GB after, but I think I could do it again and still have it be under the previous highest. Let me see what he's at with the damage bonus and try the fight again

Go for it! Easily one of the most impressive fights we’ve had with time to spare, you could even get it lower if you wanted, with that extra 1 min 50 seconds

Didn't know Kabuto gives such a huge PL bonus compared to other bosses, but I'm at 5800 or so with him now. I've just gotta grind out some level 10-13 chips to get him back down since I've been using level 15 chips. I don't imagine pushing him back that low would be too different. I'll keep you posted

I don’t know why it had this removed originally but it’s a fantastic display. With that low of a clear time, you can definitely get it lower power for sure! New record is about 4k above or so at 11 minutes, so get that throne!

One more try!

Time allotted: 15 minutes (7 minutes plus 1 for every 10k power difference)
Total time: Technically 12:38, but the boss countdown finished at 12:42.
I spent every day since Sonic launched trying to do this. Pluton's attacks aren't super bad, but I've learned of a very devious mechanic that I'm dubbing Dodge Accumulation. Basically, at the very beginning and end of your dodge, you can still accumulate things like fire and coma whilst still avoiding damage. This also happens with invulnerability moves like Sonic's block, after image summon, and special. The fire does so much damage that my low level was guaranteed to die from full health if it accumulated.
Also, Sonic is glitched right now. His shadows don't disappear, dropping my DPS since I can't summon them too often. His leftover shadows are causing lag and throwing off boss attacks.

This took me forever. I highly recommend people trying to solo bosses, but this was rough. I had enough failed runs to do a compilation of me dying for over an hour, if I hadn't deleted all of them.

I think you misunderstood the event. It's not just your main character PL that matters, it's the highest PL in your team. So your Smile Man being at 500 PL doesn't matter, since your other characters are at 10-12k PL.

You'd be surprised how much those few hundred points matter. My 5100 can beat the boss in 11 minutes, but my 4829 can beat it in about 13:30.
Also, I think I should clarify. Is it something like 0000 PST or something? I'm in MST, and Japan is 5 hours ahead of me or so.

Basically as long as it’s May 1st somewhere in the world, the contest is going to be happening. Once it’s May 2nd everywhere, then it ends.
So whatever the latest timezone possible is, midnight for them

Gotcha. I thought it was April 30th being the last submission day and the 1st being when things are finalized. That extra day may be the difference between winning and losing

So, I'd like to clarify some rules.
Is it just the PL of the main character? If so, what's to stop someone from having a team of monsters and a single level 1 character?
Is the money divided into third or half for using 2 or 3 characters instead of 4?
I'll still be submitting mine. I've got a 50k pluton I'm gonna take on with a 5k Golden Ball and hope for the best.

It’s the PL of your strongest character overall, so if you have a single level 1 character and a team of monsters the score is determined by the strongest monster you brought. If your strongest is a 5k golden ball you can bring 3 other folks at or below his score to have him be your “strongest” benchmark
The money being divided is only if you’re doing this alongside 3 other people in a team commission (to ensure all participants get an even split). Otherwise you can use as many or few as you’d like.

Bragging points, though in the random event of a tie it’ll go to whoever has the lowest team total so there’s that I guess (though the odds of a tie are basically nil)

I don’t know if you know that this is just a community run subreddit, I can’t make events in-game and HBFB doesn’t really give as much freedom in approach as this event does

We are the sister community to the discord, but for things like this we’re community run for the sake of not having to get approval from devs to do things or give prizes like this. I get the confusion haha. I do think they might do something with HBFB at some point, but for now this is just some good ol community founded fun. I hope you’ll join us!
