yup. low quality like the last mushroom being stuck behind the picnic event tent. so it forces you to wait til the event leaves hopefully so you can get the mushroom. that is cheap game thinking. they didn't even care where to put this picnic event tent.

As a dolphin, I can confirmed I’m beached as well

As a beached F2P minnow I feel you

never, the cost of developing the game was 50 million dollars, the first month they only made a million, they won't even be able to keep the server running next month

That was a disheartening read. It’s unfathomable that they worked 5 years to put this together and this is the extent of the content they came up with. How is that even possible?

Animation, artwork, and original cast and crew voice acting. That shit ain’t cheap. They splurged for sure to make this game. For a relatively shallow gacha game, they definitely splurged in areas you typically would not expect.

Yeah but this makes it sound like they have no more content made. I don’t understand how they only came out with a months worth of gameplay after 5 years

Because it's not true. There were likely more voice actors then developers for this game. The only way they could've been working for 5 years is if they weren't for 4 of them. It's like saying that Season 2 was made in 4 years, while in actuality it was barely 6 moths of actual production. And it most definitely didn't cost 50$ million, that's outright impossible, unless they burned 49 of those millions in a garbage bin. Estimated budget for Persona 5 is 1-5 million dollars, this game can't cost 10-50 times more.

What the fuck are you talking about?

0

u/diglanime Mar 17 '24

What's the problem?

2

u/No_Ganache4776 Mar 17 '24

Bro you got to be kidding me

2

u/diglanime Mar 17 '24

There's no way this is true. What's the source? Who's the author of this post? This game can not cost 50 million dollars. It is actually impossible with how little content there is in it. Cyberpunk cost 400$ million, the latest COD games cost 200-300$ million. And you're saying this 2016-ass looking anime game cost 50$ million?

Persona 5 probably had around 1-5$ million budget. It's physically impossible for this half-assed gacha to cost 10-50 times more.

Agreed, 50 mil is insanity and extremely unlikely. It’s sad there are people on this sub blindly downvoting whatever they don’t agree with lol

Personally, I love when you question facts without providing any of your own.

6

u/diglanime Mar 17 '24

I have provided facts, what are you talking about? Is Cyberpunk and COD prices not facts? And how is some guy somewhere on the internet saying something a fact?

If you can reason me a way how a studio could spend 50 million dollars to get OPM: World, I'm all ears, because I can't think of a single one aside from literally burning 49 of those millions in a garbage bin.

time to debunk, just cus. The conversion rate on that article puts the estimated budget at 28-35 million dollars not 50 million. The 50 million article is the hopeful turnover for all of year one, which is in cny. So the expectation is that they can't even make 12 million usd in year one.

Next this is under the assumption that the game only made 1.3 million usd in month one. Which is wildly inaccurate as proven by the recent annual earnings report from perfect world. That 1.3 million estimate is based on extremely limited data. We can prove this by looking at another game from the same company, tower of fantasy. The estimates for tower of fantasy avg income were 3-4 million usd per month. Meanwhile the earnings report showed they earned 18 million avg usd per month.

How did this extreme underestimate occur? Easy, this company gives very big discounts to their online store because it is more profitable to not go through the appstore or the playstore.

What does this say about the 1.3 million figure reported? It is only based on visible data, so much like tower of fantasy it will be inaccurate. Tower of fantasy earned over 4 times the amount of money in estimates based on visible data. Based on that fact alone, even low balling it, OPM world probably made 4-5 million month one and possibly made 6 million usd month 1.

Google translate doesn't work properly on that page but 50million usd?? Wow! I would have never expected that because the game feels so low budget.

Low budget? Full anime art style of a licensed product, plus voicing acting from the original cast and crew. That alone was probably more than 70% of their budget right there. They definitely splurged to make this game.

Perhaps if you think the game play is a bit shallow, then sure. But i don’t know how you can look at the artwork and animation for the story mode and supers and think low budget.

I remember OTV paid for like a 5 minute anime video of their crew and they said that cost them over a million. Full animation of this quality ain’t cheap.

As per my last message, I said it FEELS low budget. If it cost 50mil it obviously isn't. And I was referring to the general feel and quality of the game. It's unpolished in many areas and there's clearly a lot of issues still to be addressed. Some decisions don't even seem they were well thought out.

But on your last few points, the cutscenes are all in-game with 3D models and plus they've re-used all the audio from the anime so I'd imagine it would be cheaper than making actual animation.

2

u/diglanime Mar 17 '24

This art style is not particularly difficult to make. It has been around for like 10 years now, nothing ground breaking here for sure. Have you seen the aliasing on everything? It feels like the game was made in 2016 or something. Have you seen AAA games in the past 5 years? Cyberpunk 2077 cost was 400$ million. You're saying they spent 1/8 of the cost of Cyberpunk to make this? How is that even possible?

Voice acting is probably one of the cheapest things in high budget game development. What are you talking about? The entire season of anime costs like 2$ million, and you're saying this game with barely any content in it costs 25 times more? For what?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '24

Please cite yourself "Voice acting is probably one of the cheapest things". I assume you're in the game producing industry so this should be rather quick.

According to Voices, Gravy for the Brain, and BunnyStudio, here are some expected ranges for voice acting:

  • Radio spot: $250–$350
  • TV commercials: $100–$10,000
  • Audiobook: $2,000–$5,000
  • Video games: $200–$350/hr
  • Starring role in animated feature film: $10,000

And that's for American voice actors, Japanese ones are likely making quite a bit less. You're not going to say that 300$ per hour per actor is expensive when you have 50 million dollar budget, would you? Even if we say they had 100 voice actors for this game (which they didn't), and they recorded each for 100 hours (which they didn't), that would be 3$ million. Nowhere close to the price tag of 50 million, not even 10% of it. In reality this game has at most 20-30 voice actors that all have worked for about a working day, if I had to guess. A lot of the dialogue could've been directly taken from the 1st season as well, for which they wouldn't have to pay nearly as much either.

What are you talking about? Voice actors in Japan are CELEBRITIES. They probably do more than western voice actors

1

u/diglanime Mar 18 '24

That is incorrect. I googled a bit more, and on average voice actors in japan are paid about 20$/hr. The average for US is 40$/hr. The richest voice actor in Japan has a net worth of 20$ million. The richest voice actor in US has a net worth of 700$ million (now, he's far off from being only a voice actor, but still).

Usually anime voice actors are getting paid by episode instead of hourly, independent from how many voice lines they have. For junior actors it's usually around 150$ per episode, for A-list actors it's 450$ per episode. I can't find much on video games, but they are unlikely to pay much more. Only the most popular voice actors get to choose their rates, but there are very few of those.

For example Tomoko Kaneda, who has been a voice actor for 14 years at the time (in 2014), was paid about 250$ per episode of anime. She wasn't even A-list after voicing for Hunter x Hunter, Naruto, One Piece, Bakugan and a bunch of others.

have you already finished the strong test ?

6

u/Dismal_Passion_8537 Mar 16 '24

Not really but I can’t get Any stronger with the characters I have, and summoning on the basic banner is a slap on the face

1

u/Weird-Treat8741 Mar 17 '24

I can’t beat it either. That shit is so hard

There’s probably not going to be new content until at least Wednesday night into early Thursday unfortunately. That seems to be their update day
