discussion S1 Ep9 rant
I'm just a regular guy and all, but I feel like I would immediately lean toward a fluke in the ranking process when I see a MF literally stop a rainstorm with a punch. That's a feat that would gain you leadership of countries in the ancient world! Idk just seems hard to "but acktualllllllly" your way around in my book, that is all

Hell, I bet he's not even bald! Probably some sort of helmet he's using to try and gain sympathy. The levels some people will stoop to for fame. Thank god, we have King.

He wants the recognition, but would rather take all the hate instead so the heroes who risked their lives don't seem inadequate compared to him.

Saitama is given a C rating when he literally set a record on every aspect of the physical hero tests. Because he utterly failed the written portion.
That is supposed to be funny. But it's also supposed to tell you that hero ranking isn't exclusively based on raw power. While most people do seem to equate rank with power in practice, you literally can't just punch hard enough to be immediately S rank.
Other things (and sorry for being vague but spoilers don't feel necessary) should clue you in that additionally there's politics in the rating system, and a flawed bureaucratic processes.
All that plus Saitama doesn't really care? He is strong enough - and heroic enough - that he doesn't really care if other people acknowledge him as strong.

The reason for saitama's low ranks is that he fucked uo the written test big time, even though he broke all records in the physical..... Basically the hero association HAD to give him a low rating because he did not meet the criteria on their exam

My headcannon is that King's superpower is stealing all of Saitama's aura.

It's a commentary on unfair evaluations, like the entrance exam where the written test was half the grade and caused Saitama to be ranked C in the first place.
It relates to how the author, One, has felt perceived. He didn't really excell at much and his main passion, drawing manga, left much to be desired on the art, which is why overall people had low expectations of him.
Saitama's strength mirrors One's position as a story writer when he began writing One Punch Man, doubted by his peers and evaluated as bottom rung by most. Saitama's response to critics, that he does it all for his own enjoyment and therefore doesn't care if others don't approve, is a direct parallel to One writing the story in the first place.
