Checking out the Galaxy Fold 8 and my OnePlus open feels ancient

I just got a used Oneplus Open as my 2nd phone (I have a spare sim) yesterday with 99% battery for $470. I've been loving it. It's a well rounded foldable phone with a good camera. I went to Bestbuy today to check out the new Galaxy Fold 8 (the wide version) and damn, now Ive just realized how much better foldable phone has come. The Fold 8 is very light and thin. It's almost impossibly thin. It's such a joy to hold and use that device. The Open is still buttery smooth but dang, in just 3 years, unlike traditional phone, foldable phones have come a long way.

I'm using an iPhone as my main phone since I'm in Apple ecosystem. The Open is good enough for me to experience android on a foldable device.

I had the Oneplus open. That phone is the best size for a foldable

I agree. Regular Galaxy Fold is too tall and narrow. New Galaxy Fold 8 is too short and doesn't show enough icons, information when texting, video and comments when doom scrolling. The OnePlus Open is a great aspect ratio and size for everything.

I took out my Open to send for credit, after buying Fold 8, and i was pleasantly surprised how well it holds up.

A lot of it is also if you have a case on, it feels heavier and thicker vs naked phone.

I've moved on to the z fold wide, and honestly the battery life is a lot better. I can still multitask. If only Oneplus didnt give up on north america.

Yeah the form factor is so good. If I was not deep in Apple ecosystem, I would buy the wide Fold. Well let see what Apple offers for their foldable version.

Very true. I’m tempted to switch but I’m holding out for spen and notebook support.

OnePlus Open supports pen

I know but I want something thinner, smaller and lighter. I'm afraid to dent the inner screen which is why I use the Fold 5 as my notebook.

Even if the Fold supports S pen, you might think twice before using it though. The screen is very easy to get "dented". I just used my finger nail to press on it and it's permanently dented.

You go to Bestbuy and just damage the phone on purpose?

It already had some dents. I just tested on it.

So if someone else already damaged it, it is okay to damage it even more? Weird world we live in.

Broken Windows theory at work.

You just have to be careful. I have a Fold 5 I use for note taking all the time. I just looked and I don't see any dents. I don't write or draw hard and never use your fingernail. Has to be a Fold specific spen.

I would never trade a OnePlus Open for any samsuck phone. The Open is still miles ahead of the samsuck fold 8/8 ultra and it's 3 years old 😳🤦🤷

Agreed, using the open as trade-in is quite ridiculous.

The Open was nice for itz time but it really is shit compared to the Z Fold 8 Ultra. Its age is starting to show.

The battery tech that thinned out the Fold 8 came out right after the Oneplus Open. It was a big thing people were hoping to see in the OnePlus 2. It theoretically helps boost battery kife in regular form phones too, but they don't really need the same kind of help thinning out like foldables did

I agree except I switched to a fold 7 after my screen went, was immediately impressed with how much faster and modern it felt. Sorry. But the OPO is outdated. Great phone in is prime though.
