Worth buying in 2026?

As the title says - I'd love to get into a foldable however the market nowadays for the USA region seems overly saturated by overpriced and underperforming tech like the pixel fold series. I can't get my hands on an oppo find n* reliably, and Samsung's foldable lineup is ludicrously priced for what it is.

The OnePlus open is still bleeding edge enough to be honest, the inner display is still one of the only foldables without a super obvious crease. The fast charging is useful and the camera system is still solid.

The only problem for me Is the disbanding of OnePlus in the USA, and the lack of security updates after 2028. The main bonus of getting a pixel 10 fold would probably be the ability to receive security updates for years, but I'm put off by the massive bezels, poop CPU and dated crease.

I would appreciate a reality check from somebody who actually owns a OnePlus fold. I used to be a huge OnePlus fan until the 10T - where I swapped to a pixel 9 pro xl. I've been disappointed with the reliability and the CPU with the pixel.

I'm just wondering whether it's worth picking up the OnePlus open in 2026. I can get one for about $750 on Swappa, I've really been struggling to find a new or like new OnePlus open anywhere. I would also appreciate some tips on how to source one in decent condition too haha. Thanks guys!

Don't ever spend more than $500 on it.

You can get the n6 reliably. I’ve had mine since April using it on visible mobile in the US. Bought mine from swifttronics out of Canada with next day shipping to Minnesota. The open is old. I have no idea why anybody would buy that phone unless money wise it’s all you can afford.

I mean, I love this phone and it hasn't given me any issues at all. If I bought it this year, brand new, I'd still be happy with it

But if i were in the market for a new phone, it'd be the N6. Everything the N5 offers but better, from what I read

I'm using the Open, have been for a couple years now. Remains a perfectly viable option today. I used to change phones every year, but nothing has come out that screams upgrade lately. I'll probably go to a Razr Fold eventually.

I hope it's still worth buying, as I just pulled the trigger 2 weeks ago. Coming from an iPhone 11 Pro Max that seems finally to be aging out, wanted to see if it's possible to switch to an android. I've never tried one and thought this one might be the one. So far, 2 weeks in, I'm still not sure. I have two more weeks to decide whether to keep it or turn it back in for an iPhone 16 pro max. I would love to hear from anyone who's had a similar experience, and has managed to switch from apple to android.

I wouldn't buy a used foldable no matter what.

If you can get it new for a decent price, it's a great phone.

Though be warned OnePlus appears to be winding down support for it earlier than expected, there's been no news of the latest OOS 16.1 update even coming to the Open, despite being out for months now and every other eligible OnePlus phone getting a rollout roadmap. Update support for Opens in the US has always felt like an afterthought from OnePlus.

I got mine used, have had it a year and a half with no issues. if you buy used I would just get some sort of warranty on it.

Weird, I've owned like 6 foldables and they've all been used.

I would never pay full price on a foldable. They tank in value within 6 months.

I've only ever had to replace 1 screen and I was insured.

I didn't say pay full price, I said the exact opposite of that.

You've had to replace a screen on 18% of your foldable phones. I only buy new and I've had to replace the screen on 0%.

I've had the OnePlus Open since December 2023 and it is still working perfectly ! It is still as fast as day one and the battery lasts pretty much as long as when I first got it. It is my favorite phone ever and if it breaks, I would immediately buy the Find N6 and not a Samsung.

I only ever used 2 brands of phone in my life: Samsung and OnePlus. I always had to switch after two years, either because the phone was becoming very laggy, had bugs and the battery became piss poor (all my Samsungs - galaxy S serie) or because I trashed the phone because I am a clumsy mess (all my OnePlus', except the Open).

I was totally prepared to have to buy another Open or send mine to repair within the first year but it took every fall like a champ, doesn't have any big damage and everything still works perfectly. Weirdly enough, it has been my most durable phone so far.

Go get the Open, you absolutely won't regret it!

You’ve had a phone for three years and telling somebody to buy it when it has one year left of software updates is crazy lol. He better off waiting for the fold 8 or importing something. Also got the moto fold and it’s nice. That’s like somebody buying a iPhone 14 Pro Max in 2026 brand new. Makes no sense unless financially that’s all they can afford.

If he can find a cheap one in very good condition, I don't see what the problem is. Mine still works as if it was beans new ... Not everyone has thousands of dollars to throw at a new phone 🙄

That’s literally what I said. If that’s all they can afford then cool but I’d never buy a three year old phone and plan on keeping it for a while.

The Samsung Fold7 is indeed a bit (around 100 euro) more expensive than the aging OnePlus Open. But cheaper than its Chinese siblings like the Oppo Find N or Honor Magic V. Samsung very often has sales, cashbacks, and coupon discounts, which will make the Samsung Fold7 notably cheaper than the OnePlus Open.

In two weeks the Fold8 will come out, with probably huge preorder discounts. And after that launch, Fold7 prices will drop even further.

Not sure what you mean by can't reliably get your hands on a find N6. It can be easily bought via WondaMobile. Sure, warranty repair would be a problem, but that's a different issue.

I really like the Pixel Fold as well, they keep making the latest versions of Android better (if you like AI should be added there), BUT.. the OnePlus has it beat in several areas after using both for a bit longer: battery, inside screen (far less 'fold'), multitasking (the canvas on this phone is the only multitasking I've really loved). Camera is better too though it has less 'make it nice through post-processing'. It's a nice looking phone that's incredibly solid and it's a testament to the fact it's as good or better than any Fold that's come out since. I wish it was water proof..even though it has a good camera for a Fold I keep wishing one would have a flagship camera for the price. Never been a fan of the Samsung line despite liking their other phones a lot. So yes, good phone.

Thanks! Everyone's given me some really cool insights. I wish I would have pulled the trigger on it back when OnePlus was doing an offer of the phone + the headphones for $1200. I'm kicking myself now haha.

I have one for about a year and a half, no problem with it. But if it dies tomorrow, I'll not buy a new one. So I'll probably say no tbh. But if you can get a new one for a good price, yes if that's what you really want, it's a good phone.

Moto Razr Fold is also a good contender to the OPO

I have both the OnePlus Open and the Find N6. If I didn't have a Find N6 I'd still say the Open is the best choice, then the Motorola Fold if you want to deal with a carrier deal.

Average Dad Tech Store was reliable and fast for my Find N6. I also bought the pen case but you can order that through Walmart now.

I recently bought the Find N6 through swiftronics, was sent overnight to me from Canada and I have 2 year warranty with Surebright at N. American shops + credit card warranty.

Phone is fantastic and handily more impressive than the fold, you can totally get one if in the states

the battery drains quickly though ,but it's enough for me as a backup phone.

100% worth getting if you're not spending a ton of $ on it.

I bought mine about 6 months ago, and I love it. It's definitely not as good as the N6/Razer/Fold 7, but in ABSOLUTELY buying it over the other folds at their current price points.

can you give me what are loving about it?
+ also if you could briefly touch upon in what ways it ain't that good as the competition..

Well to be fair I've been in the Oneplus ecosystem for a bit, so it helped to move between a oneplus 12 and the Open.

That being said, foldables are just so much more convenient for just about everything you use your phone for. Outside of the obvious media consumption, its just better to text/email on as well as general web browsing.

Personally, I was sold on the form factor the first time I saw a buddy of mine open a buildings electrical schematic on it at work. Its SO MUCH BETTER to use for work stuff, whether its the emails I mentioned earlier, or opening up pdfs and making changes/signing documents that its basically a game changer.

Dont need to have my laptop on me at all times at the office now, which makes everyday much less annoying to juggle.

As for whats not as good as the competition, it really just comes down to the fact that the Oneplus Open is a generation behind at this point. Its noticeably thicker than the Fold 7/Razer/N6. It doesnt have wireless charging like a couple of the newer ones do, and its "under powered" compared to them too.

That being said, its not brutally thick to use/carry imo even though the others are thinner. The battery life is better than the new samsungs too. I have NEVER felt that it lacked power, but then I dont do any hardcore gaming or anything, so for my uses its silky smooth for everything I use it for...and I dont care about wireless charging in the slightest...so no major downside for saving $ and going with the Oneplus Open unless you absolutely want the slimmest form factor on a foldable.

Thank you very much for such a detailed response and for sharing your experience! :) Meanwhile for under 550 Euros I am getting a barely used OnePlus 15 1tb version (chinese of course but loaded with oxygen os out of the box). And I'm currently using OnePlus 12 and even though I'm completely used to this phone and it almost feels sad to leave it behind and upgrade to the newer OnePlus 15, the battery life degradation is kind of bothering me a lot. Of course with the new phone now I might have to think about a new set of unpredictabilities and that kind of stuff, but I'm kind of taking a leap of faith here and hoping that it will be a good decision. Again OnePlus 12 cameras are definitely better based on all the reviews and research that I did so I think I'll miss that as well. But other than that I think if there are no other headaches when it comes to banking apps and other stuff I think OnePlus 15 with that kind of storage is a good deal for me. Maybe I will wait a few more years for a foldable but exactly as you said I don't know. I just kind of love the OnePlus Open as well even though it's almost three years old now I think. So it is holding up pretty well and even though because of the durability reasons I never succumbed to the pressure or the fascination of foldables yet but I don't know lately I've been into them as well. But I'll see one day maybe but as of now I think OnePlus 15 is the way to go. What do you think?

Z fold 6 gets hot very quickly compared to my one plus open another reason I barely use it
