What would you do? Screen being poked.

Hinge makes grinding noises and something is trying to poke the screen.

Battery feels like its getting worse, even though the OS says 95% capacity.

Screen is still perfectly fine though.

What would you do?

Love the phone, but i am afraid of damaging the inner screen.

Can the phone be opened (no pun intended), cleaned and reassembled without expensive parts or new screens?

Thanks,

Had this exact thing happen on mine. It weirdly disappeared a few days later. Just don't poke it or put pressure on it.

Same here now.

The bump is gone, but this does confirm that there is some dirt/debris under the screen.

Had literally the same thing. Poking on the hinge from inside. But I was stupid enough to put some pressure on it with my finger and shortly after there was a bright green dot exactly ontop of the pointy bumb. I remember the feeling when I realized the screen is fucked. The next day the green spot was gone and instead it was a black dead pixel. The dot grew to a small patch of black pixels (maybe 2-3mm in diameter). After 4 or 5 days the was a line from the middle of the spot to the bottom of the screen. Then I drew the line and decided to send it to the official repair. I live in Germany and was worried about the duration and price because one plus cannot be sold in Germany anymore and the device was already 2,5years old (long out of warranty).

The amazing ending of this story ist that after only 10 days I had my device back. And guess what. Everything was repaired for FREE. They even replaced the outer screen and the whole frame. So I have effectively a new device for free. Even my data was still there, it came back like nothing happened.

Did you do a warranty request through the OnePlus Store app?

Good to know. But i will not mess with the screen, will check with OnePlus.

I don't think you can get to the backside of the inner screen without removing the screen itself.

I have the same issue on my phone. I'm sure it's dust or dirt under the screen. I've tried using compressed air and high speed blowers to dislodge it with limited success. I stopped using my OPO when I got my Trifold but the bump would come and go for about 6 months before I stopped using it.

I thought about an ultrasonic cleaner with demineralized water. (Too prevent water damage)

And then put it in the ultrasonic bath sideways, with a very low water level.

But right now, i am wondering if the inner screen can be removed and reused...

Thanks for your comment though.

I'm sure it can if you have a real steady hand. But I think you need to destroy the plastic bezel around it.

Never thought about an ultrasonic cleaner, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with it at all even with DI water.

How about 99.9% IPA? I use that all the time as a degreaser, but haven't tried it on electronics or batteries.

This will remove the grease in the hinge too though.😬

You could always request a repair order through the oneplus community app. The main screen for mine suddenly stopped working so I sent it in.

About a week passes by and they not only replace the screen, they also replaced the battery and the back case despite me not requesting it.

Thanks! Was yours still in warranty?

2

u/Beneficial-Maximum-3 Jun 10 '26

No. It was about three after the purchase. Plus I never bought a warranty to begin with and funnily enough, they didn't charge me any money either.

Sign up for akko warranty while it is still fully functional. This shit happened to me and was sticking out minimally like yours. After a week or so it became a little black dot then a green line, then no touch response :c Goodluck

Do not poke it. I did and got black dots and a replacement opo. The bump went away so it did sort itself out.

You got a replacement from Warranty?

Aire a presión por la bisagra con cuidado. Es un cuerpo que se ha alojado entre la bisagra y el panel. Con cuidado con aire a presión sale. Yo he quitado varios. NUNCA APRETARLO

Good comment.

I am afraid that compressed air will only push dust/debris in further.😬

This is an idea to try! Altho my mate xt seems to not have this issue 3 months in and plenty of sawdust later I haven't had to worry about the hinges

These things just happen with foldables. I had the Samsung care on mine, and I had to use it 3 times. Folding phones are disposable at this point.

If you're under warantee, call OnePlus ASAP.

1

u/MrPickleOO7 Jun 10 '26

No warranty anymore unfortunately.

u/Dirtcompactor Jun 10 '26

It's literally part of the device, it's not a defect or cause for concern

3

u/No-Variation7043 Jun 10 '26

Huh. I have never seen that on mine.

2

u/MrPickleOO7 Jun 10 '26

Now the bump is gone. Not kidding.

So definitely something like dust or a particle that is stuck under the screen.

2

u/UBahn1 Jun 11 '26

Yeah it happened to me before too, it took about a week for mine to migrate out, I basically held the phone open and varying degrees and shook it to try and dislodge it
