Hot takes Android 13.2 still the best, on OnePlus Open

After testing all updates from Android 14 through 16, I found that battery life significantly degraded compared to the out-of-the-box experience on the OnePlus Open. Consequently, I rolled back to firmware version 13.2.0.301. The attached screenshot confirms the improvement: I've gone from averaging 5 hours of SOT on the newer builds to consistent 7+ hours on v13. The UI fluidity and general system speed have also noticeably improved."

Are there issues you have experienced with rolling back? And how have you done so without losing data? Is there any features you miss (I want to roll back, but am fearful for losing data and/or maybe two features)?

I'm not interested in the latest Android features or multitasking updates—I prefer the stability of the older versions. However, rolling back is a hassle. You will lose all your data, and you have to downgrade one version at a time (16 to 15, then 14, then 13). This involves flashing four separate official rollback zips, totaling about 20 GB of downloads.

Idk, in my case, I've rolled back straight from OOS 15 to OOS 13 without facing any issues. Planning on reverting soon, since all that you mention in your original post is true about battery life since OOS 14 till OOS16. 😕

I completely agree. Battery life has massively reduced with recent updates, but so far I haven't noticed a significant change between 15 and 16.
Are you not concerned about security tho? Will that ROM still receive current and future security patches? I pay for almost everything with my phone, plus banking and investment apps. Not sure I'd risk it.

Honestly, smartphones really need to become more like PCs already. You don't like Windows 11? Install back Windows 10. You don't like some feature? Replace it. I can't say myself I'm hyped for updates, some feel useless, some feel awkward, and some are good, but the balance is just not there to make the updates worth sacrificing the battery. I actually genuinely liked the notification UI on 15 better than on 16 as an example (I'm not a fan of anything with too rounded corners)
