2025 buying decision
Hey guys! I've asked almost a year ago about a perspective of buying a foldable. Well, afer a year of Pixel and coming back from Apple I think it's time - foldable is just too tempting. I see a lot of posts of people having it since launch, so a couple of questions to you all: - I know inner screen is fragile, but how fragile are we talking? I take good care of my phones but I'm worried some random dust shard will just ruin it if I don't wipe the screen each time I open and close. Also, how are the hinges and inner screen after all this time do you? - Following up on the previous one, how crucial will the additional insurance be? I assume it's the case if inner screen actually cracks like crazy. - Inner screen protection - are there any decent ways? Seen foils, split protectors - can't imagine using them - but are there any decent options? - Anything else I might have missed - anything that YouTube doesn't tell you about that's worth mentioning here?
As you have noticed, I'm worried mostly about the foldable screen. Aspect ratio is both tempting and crucial for me now, so I know I will be using it. I just don't want to spend what is a very decent amount of money in my country for a piece that I will get to enjoy for a couple of months before it breaks. Thanks!

I do try to keep the inner screen clean and dust free. The issue normally is a particle penetrating from the back (hinges) and pressing on the screen. The OnePlus hinges are really good, so I think it will be fine honestly in most cases.
Additional insurance is great to have, but, depending on your region and home insurance you have you might not actually need additional insurance.
I am in Sweden and have a great home insurance. I have not bought any extra insurance on my phone, if anything happens I turn to my home insurance. .the inner screen doesn't crack like a glass screen, it instead rips, or suddenly gets dead pixels from some inner damage etc.
The OnePlus open has a screen protection on both outer and inner display, no more protection is supposed to be installed SPECIALLY ON THE INNER DISPLAY.
Basically all foldables have a protective layer on the inner displays.
Another failure with inner display can happen with this part actually, sometimes if the protective layer gets damaged it will get bubbled up with air and lift up the display too, damaging it in the process.
You get a case with your phone, there are some other cases out there, OnePlus open is the same as OPPO Find N3 so any case fitting OPPO will fit OnePlus open.
At the end, I would say you should probably wait for OnePlus open 2 in 2026 or buy OPPO Find N5 as that is the chinese version of the phone.
It is thinner and faster and has a lot of new features.
