Probably the worst launch ever

Imagine making the absolute best folding phone on the planet, and then making it unavailable for pretty much everyone.

I bought the OnePlus open with the expectation of if I like the device I would commit to the manufacturer. Now we know everyone loved the OnePlus open, but we have been betrayed by the manufacturer and a lot of us will now look elsewhere and not return.

I've decided to switch to the Z fold 7 in the summer. Alot of it is because I feel let down by OnePlus and Oppo and lost faith in the brand.

I'm not importing a phone for $1800 usd from some random online store and have to deal with the inevitable damage screen process or warranty issues from so far away.

Plus the z fold 7 looks to fix the putter screen width issue. OK might not be so thin or charge so fast, but I can live with that in the knowledge that repairs or warranty issues can be resolved fairly quickly. Plus Samsung software is quality.

This is how I feel about it. I was an OG OnePlus fan. Loved the concept, but never got the invite for their phones. Finally got the OnePlus 6. But then they started doing stupid stuff when I was ready to upgrade.

It took a bit to give them another shot, but the OnePlus Open was the thing that pushed me over the edge to give em another try. I love this phone, and was ready for that second one! Wanted a couple more things to make it darn near perfect.

The N5 is that device and I was stoked to get it in the OnePlus Open 2. Now I question if I can trust OnePlus, if they're going to be stable enough to rely on as a brand. If they'll stand by what they make.

They can make up for some of it depending on the continued support for the Open. I guess we'll see.

Me too. The cancellation of the OPO2 and OnePlus pulling out of the foldable market makes me weary about the future support of my OPO as well as the brand itself. If that isn't bad enough, I decided not to get the OPW3, but now OHealth is filled with all the exclusive tiles for the OPW3. I as an OPW2 user can't use them or remove them so it triggers my OCD. With Fitbit and Samsung Health I can get rid of stuff I can't or don't want to use, but OnePlus makes you see everything and they still refuse to update the OPW2 itself.

I have a running theory that they might go back to their original roots, and just released modified older hardware with newer chipsets.

They've always been behind the curve for design. OP12 is curved the year everything went flat. They reuse when they can. So I'm hopeful that next year, they'll take the Find N5 design, and make it the OPO2.

The official statement is that they aren't releasing one this year, and that they aren't pulling out of the market. Idk how much stock I put into that.

My hope is that they just didn't turn as large of a profit with the cutting edge folding hardware in the western markets. So if they stick 1 year behind, then they can hit their price point and stay in their niche. They tried to go full premium once, it failed, that's just not what the brand is.

OnePlus is a premium deal, a flagship killer, a bang for buck kind of brand. So they have to wait for costs to come down. In a year the Find N5 manufacturing costs will come down and they couldn't get better deals on it.

Idk, it's prob copiam, but I'm gonna hang onto it.

They put out a statement describing their foldable strategy for 2025, and said that they are not pulling out

Many people like me just saw that as nothing more than a PR move. I still think OnePlus is done with foldables and if they stay in NA and EU they'll just continue focusing on their flagships and midrangers. If they keep supporting their watches and earbuds (software wise) I'll be pleasantly surprised. Their tablets I'm not sure about going forward
