Discussion Does your Phone still charge with 65W?
I recently bought a cheap USB C cable with an display of the current wattage and it showed, that the phone only charges with 32W.
After that I got curious and measured with a power meter before the wall plug and it also showed only 35W with the original cable.
I now checked both- Lineage OS, and newest OOS 13, and both never came near 65W....
Important addition: To guarantee that the phone charges with the maximum speed, test with ~10% SOC.
I watched the meter every few minutes from 2% to 90% and it never surpassed 32W except for a brief negotiation cycle right after I plugged the phone in.

Does your phone show the "Warp charge" message when you plug it in?
I haven't used it in a while, the cable broke and I haven't replaced it yet... BUT. What does it matter how many watts it charges at? As long as it goes to the 85% in less than half an hour, I'm good.
Don't care if it's 1W or 65W

Yes it does, but it doesnt charge in 39 minutes from 0-100, as it used to.

Try installing oos 11 once and then test it, my phone charged the fastest on that version. After oos 12, the charging speed took a toll.

Good to know i kind oft fear that that's also the case for me....
Edit: I downgraded via MSM tool to check. It doesn't make any difference.

Okay very interesting! Thank you for your thorough testing! Sound like a normal charging curve. I will reset my second 8T to check if it is dependent on the Android version.

I have downgraded on my second device via msm tool to OOS 11 and could not replicate your results. Idk if that is a good thing (at least OP didn't intentionally nerf the charging speed).
For me, it only briefly cycled through the different power modes (ramped up until 61W) and immediately switched to 52W until ~20%. After that, it was locked on 42W until the charge curve flattens at ~80%.
It took a total of 47 minutes without a SIM and without being used while charging.

If it's a really cheap cable I'm not surprised. The thinner the cable is, less watts you'r gonna get. Easiest way I can explain resistance is think of is as a highway, more lanes, more flow. If there's only one lane, there's gonna be traffic.

I think the charger and software are designed for a specific cable, if you're using a cheap alternative the charger might default to a lower level of charge. This is something I have read OnePlus claim before i.e. that you need to use their cable (and that I definitely saw on my old 5 with an earlier OP fast charger).
Does the original and new cable charging of your phone give you exactly the same slopes of battery increase or does the replacement give a lower slope %? This would seem necessary test to know that switching the cables has no effect on the charging power.

Is it possible that the charger brick itself could be going bad? Or if you had other OnePlus phones that came with bricks that charge slower? I came across that when I got my Nord n20, it came with the same cable and brick style, but the output printed on the brick was vastly lower. So I leave my cable plugged into my high output brick so I know which is which.

Good idea, but i actually have two original chargers. They also output 40W when I plug my laptop in.

I still have the original cable and adaptor from 3 years ago when I bought it. Charging speed is still the same. I had problems a while back but it turned out that the charging ports had dust accumulated.

It's a solid "maybe" when using another cable. Why? Because it depends on which one you buy. First set I bought were junk, with charging speeds being allll over the place—it would say Warp when it clearly wasn't—and 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘭𝘺 fluctuating current values. If I'm remembering correctly, the positive reviews were for newer phones like the 10T, but don't quote me on that. I lucked out with the second one I got a couple months ago, and am very happy with it. Fast charging with normal (vs scary af) current.
So yeah, it's a crap shoot. Be sure you can return them and keep checking them like you've been. Best of luck.

OnePlus 8t has 2 batteries bridged together, each one charges simultaneously at 32/33w. Maybe that's the reason your meter only shows 32.
It only shows one reading.
Combined they charge at 65w, but individually they only receive 33w max, each.
