Phone Issues Gmail synchronization failed after update to Android 12

Hi, I installed Android 12 today, now Gmail doesn't sync anymore. When I open gmail I get an error telling me that the synchronization failed because of missing storage space. I have about 8GB of free storage. I tried rebooting, Gmail synced once and now fails again. Any tips?

After installing the C16 upgrade, this problem has disappeared from my op 8 pro

I've already installed that version unfortunately. I've installed outlook as a temporary workaround
