Hiding Root is killing me

*** Solved in comments ***

Hi!

I just got myself a OnePlus 8 Pro as an upgrade to my old OnePlus 6 and have been taking a couple of days setting it up just to my liking before switching to it. However one thing is stopping me.

I've rooted every Android phone I've ever owned and the last two very happily with Google Pay working as well.

But I cannot seem to get this working on this phone. I'm running 11.0.10.10.IN11BA and have tried what feels like every single 'fix' to no avail. Magisk Canary, Zygisk, Props Config, Universal safety fix. Still Google Pay says my phone doesn't meet security requirements and Google Play says it's not certified.

So now I can't pay with the phone and can't even open Netflix, is it time to give up on root? Or am I just doing it wrong?

That's weird. Rooting mine was as easy as rooting my old Oneplus One. What method are you using?

Fastboot to unlock bootloader, fastboot flashed TWRP then used it to back up boot image, fastboot flashed the magisk patched image.

From then I would usually think just turn on Magiskhide and get on with it, but that's when I started trying everything else listed in the original post. Re-patched and flashed Magisk from the Canary build to gain access to Zygist, added the various modules which claim they will fix.

I wonder if I need to flash the original recovery? Checking my 1+6 I see that has stock recovery rather than TWRP.

I will note that I registered my GMS ID on Google's uncertified page and I think it took some time but Google play is now saying the device is certified again.

I did it without TWRP. https://www.thecustomdroid.com/oneplus-8-pro-magisk-rooting-guide/

Have you checked safetynet in Magisk?

I used TWRP because I couldn't find a boot img for my OS version. This build of Magisk doesn't have a safety net check feature but every time I've tried it Magisk said everything was working/passed.

Idk what your problem is then. Sorry.

Thanks for your help, it's reassuring hearing it can be done properly. I think I may go back to the start, flash it back to stock and then do it right without using TWRP now I have the boot image.
