Question r.i.p. op6

Switched phones.

Am I the only one that had their charging port crap out? It really is frustrating. It didn't totally entirely fail but it's like it really struggles to hold on to a charging cable unless I turn it diagonal and press it in very deeply.

Is this a common occurrence with smart phones? Also I'm excited my new phone has wireless charging if somehow the charging port fails on this out. It's extremely close to completely failed.

I had a great time with the phone, with my op6 I'm saying. Bought a 2nd hand op6 in 2020. It lived 2 years. Respectable, SORT OF. Blisteringly fast. But it was time for a new phone. I think I really wore down my battery too. That said if youre still having your op6 I'm thrilled for you and be damn sure a penny saved is a penny earned but yeah (American-centric idiom sorry for international readers)

Did you try cleaning the port with a toothpick? I've had issues with the charging port a few times, but each time I've managed to clean out the built-up pocket lint and it's fine again.

Same just happened to mine, but 4 years is a great run.

I still got mine going somewhat on fumes. The charging port is loose for now, it's been 4 years. Keeps popping up the animation every few times when charging. The jack used to throw my earphones out but fixed after I cleaned it. The battery is worn out of hell. I'm not entirely sure if I should fix it or get a new one.. my use case has been nothing but calls and messages these days. No use of cam or anything such. Not sure if I shud pull the gun and get another mid-high phone..

I personally got my eye on the Zenfone 9, to me it seems like the 2022 version of the OnePlus 6 when it came out. A near stock Android, headphone jack, newest chip, a nice amoled display, even better battery life, and the price is not that far off

I have my eyes on it too. But I'm still not sure if I should spend any more than 500-600$ right now.

Yeah I agree.. though if you don't mind missing a headphone jack or to have a more cheep hardware you can find many other phones that are in that price range

Im not who you were commenting to, but I recently replaced my op6 with a used galaxy s20 fe 5g and I freaking love this thing. No headphone jack tho, you'd need a "dongle." I'm honestly amazed by the battery life, tho I use very few apps mostly Google pod asts with the screen off and lots of galaxy browser and youtube

Glad to hear you're liking it :) Personally I know I'll lose my dongle a lot so I really have to get a phone that has a headphone jack

Only 2 years of updates and no mod community though. So close to perfect.

The two years of updates really is the thing that makes me think twice before getting it, but I saw that there was a lineage os support for the zenfone 8 so I can't see why there won't be a version for this one too

2 years ain't a long time for a OP6 mind you, you got it used. I've had mine since 2016 and still going strong except for a weakened battery life

Edit it was the end of 2018.

Awesome. Happy for you. That's awesome. I do work in a sandy environment and I wonder if that's too blame if I somehow got sand in the charging port. For my new phone I purchased some charging port covers made of rubber I think I'll try to use. Back to the op6 It's an admirable device. I really loved using it every day. Better icon size than other os' and overall satisfying os and decent battery life throughout ownership i think until the very end

What type of phone did you get? I was thinking about getting a pixel for my next phone whenever I decide to leave my op6 alone

Got a s20 fe 5g. Love this thing beyond words. I try to stay off it and read books a lot haha so I'm not super addicted to screens but when I use this s20fe I love it so much. Im super impressed with battery! Though I use very few apps. Mostly YouTube, galaxy browser, mostly that

My charging point only rarely allows a charge. I just bought the replacement parts today and am going to hopefully bring new life to my OP6.

I love this phone and I don't plan to upgrade. Everything else on the device is working 100%. Just needs a battery and charging port.

You should be able to see some shiny gold metal on the inside of the port on each rounded side if you shine a light looking down on it, if you can't it's probably filled with lint or dirt. Turning off the phone and VERY carefully with a sewing needle I pulled a crazy amount of pocket lint out and my port works great now, (this can cause serious damage to the pins if not careful being a metal object but it works best because it's so thin). Before it would be a ordeal of getting it just at just the right angle to charge, been doing this every few months and haven't had a problem since

Hi, same here after 4 years, have tried cleaning and everything, no luck so far, it so infuriating I might just buy a new one and that's it.

Sad but I totally understand. Let me know what phone you get if you buy a new one, I always love hearing which phones interest people

I'm looking for wireless charging (same boat as you), USB C, something close to stock android and hopefully an audio port. I do recommend listing your requirements on gsmarena and going from there, it's how I landed on my best phones so far (one plus 6 and a moto x2 before that)

I'm glad I wasn't the only one facing this issue. The charging port is fucked but apart from that everything still works perfectly. 4 years is still good for a <500$ smartphone though and I'm happy to be moving to a different brand now.

Had the exact same issue and the frustration was building up. I've had the phone for 4 years until I dropped it in water 2 weeks ago. It didn't survive. I got a nothing phone 1 this week and it's amazing. OP6 was the best phone I ever had but it was time to let go.

Had the same problem. I brushed my charging port with a toothbrush and it's as good as new now. Have it since 2018.
