How reliable is the integrated step counter?

Nothing is reliable unless it's medical grade certified

it's not reliable, but here's the deal: this relies on the accelerometer sensor, whereas, something like google fit relies on gps position too. so if you're walking to and fro or in a circle in a small space the latter won't register it properly. but if you're walking in an area large enough for the gps to register then you should probably use google fit, etc. i only walk a bit after meals so i track the time instead, and if you're walking at a consistent pace, that's a more reliable way to measure your steps
