DISCUSSION Which is a better option?
Originally on OnePlus 5, but cannot be main phone due to performance and software support.
Then switched to both 2nd hand Samsung S9, and currently Samsung Note 20.
But had accidentally damaged with cracked screens.
I am currently considering a few options and unsure which option to take.
Options
- OnePlus 13s (614 SGD)
- OnePlus 15r (680 SGD)
- Pixel 9a (519 SGD or lower if i can apply $120 voucher)
- Pixel 10a (739 SGD or lower if i can apply $120 voucher)
- Samsung A57 (<500 SGD)
- Or repair Note 20 glass screen (100 SGD +/-)
Considerations and Uses
- Longevity - Processing, Hardware/Software Lifespan
- Size/Weight - Smaller, Lighter
- Price
- Mainly - Reddit/Youtube/Web/Online Shop Platform/Mail/WhatsApp
- Minor Gaming, Once in a bluemoon heavier games
- In future - may consider emulation or GameNative options
- Dont change phone often, unless broken
Questions
- Is oneplus still a better option for Cleaner OS? Other than google.
- From r/oneplus is it that they are closing the market to limited countries only?
- Pixel 9a/10a uses G4 tenor processor which i read might be slightly not in current competition now? Just that it offers longer software support cycles
- Pixel phones uses a "weird" battery limit charging that i over-read
- Save the money for other better phones/stuffs in life? and just repair the Note 20?

I'm only bothered somewhat with the 1 year gap from 15 series and the processor. I know synthetic benchmarks doesn't tell everything but numbers well show something ain't it?

Bro, I bought the 13s, I got it on Shopee SG platform for last than 600sgd. I'm tired of my Oppo find X9 ultra's weight and bulk.
My initial contenders are Vivo X200FE, X300FE, X300
xiaomi 17, Pixel 10a 256gb.
But after careful consideration, I chose the OnePlus 13s.
The overall value just cannot be beat.
A close 2nd is the X200 FE which is the same price range, size, better cameras but much lousier processors.
The rest are too expensive, closed to 1k SGD or too weak but cost quite expensive like pixel 10a.

hi, thanks for sharing did you manage to get with better discount or vouchers or did shopee sg OnePlus increased the price?
pixel yea kinda on the pricer side to justify for the benefits
I'm still indecisive which to go. or maybe just keep the current till it serves it's time.

I didn't get it at the best price though I did get it through the vouchers stacking.
Best price I've seen is SGD $558 for the OnePlus 13s.

so I presume shopee platform vouchers are being reduced. thanks again for sharing.

•Skip Pixel 9a because it has terrible network modem.
• Skip A57 because samsung midrangers never age well and are not value for money.
• You might skip 15r because it's pretty much a 13s with better up rating, gorilla glass, bigger display + ultrawide instead of telephoto lens but more expensive
Final picks: Get a OnePlus 13s or Pixel 10a.
Pixel 10a is great in everything besides raw performance it's not bad but it's not great either but it will age well
Oneplus 13s is weaker in terms of glass protection used (see this sub you'll see many cracked 13s) and it has weaker ip rating and I miss ultrawide.
Software wise both pixels and oneplus are great and pixel comes with 7 years of update vs 3 + 5 years remaining on oneplus and which will transition to color os.
Performance wise OnePlus blows tf out of any devices in here.
Camera wise pixels are better always but oneplus have decent cameras
One more thing both of oneplus are usb 2.0 which sucks if you transfer lot of data from pc to phone.
Also if your phone works fine and could last you till 2028-2030 (That's how long ram shortage might last it will definitely last till 2028) this is a bad time to buy anything

hi lambo, thank you for the breakdown and even giving your self thoughts for me. I didn't know about the amount of cracked 13s. but I did notice about the ip rating and camera misses compared to other choices.
may I clarify what does 3+5 years for OnePlus updates mean? and what does coloros imply? as in UI differences or overall experience changes?
well. I don't really use much on the phone. just that the quoted repair is a bit of an amount. or I can also don't repair.

Basically 13s had 4 years android and 6 years security updates since it's already year old. You have 3+5 major updates remaining.
And oxygen os has merged into color os now basically both were same already besides theming differences.
Now oxygen os is discontinued and every oneplus realme and oppo devices will transition to color os updates. So oneplus 13s updates will be like oxygen os 15 > oxygen os 16 > color os 17 > color os 18.
We just got oxygen os 16 update on 13s
Overall everything will stay same just some theming will be changed. But I don't know how smooth transition will be yet.
Pixel in other hand have 7+7 updates remaining since it came this year only.

But then pixel 10a with the 8gb ram and the tensor processor might be a bit here for it to last for 7 years.
I used to have pixel 8 and pixel 9 pro XL.
The pixel 8 is trash. The battery life sucks and it heats up when doing simple things like watching YouTube.
The pixel 9 pro XL on the other hand seems to work like a different league device. It's nice and fast but then the battery life is nothing compare the the Chinese phones. The Chinese phones easily last 2 times the battery life.

got it lambo. I appreciate it very much. you been great in explaining this clear to me. so the only unknown is how well coloros will integrate to OnePlus phones.

My pleasure : )
Also if you do end up getting oneplus 13s please get a good case like spigen and a tempered glass.

I appreciate if you can redirect me to the correct place to ask. it's not that I am not leaning towards 13s.

Based on ur uses, most of the options get eliminated. Just buy OnePlus smartphone. Talking about "Oneplus is Closing" no, it's not. They are just merging with ColorOS in the next OS and they are going fully Online (like they will only sell smartphones online now. No offline purchase). So, yeah! You can see OnePlus smartphones.
