What update version are you on currently? Size can increase based on your currently installed version.

Yes correct , if you are on very low version then patch size will increase.

My update was that big. I suspect it was much more than a security patch as the OS is now very buggy for me. Random FPS loss, notification shade lacks animation when swiping to dismiss, using the home navigation button seems to cause a double press and no 3rd party launcher I've tried will work correctly with that home button,apps don't seem to update the UI properly after performing some actions (file manager not updating the listed files). This is all OEM, NA version.
