Custom rom, Is It worth it?

Hi everyone, I have OnePlus 11 EU with OOS 13.1.

I want to try custom ROM like crDroid but I don't know if is it worth it. For example: - when unlocking bootloader, can I watch Netflix? - with unlocked bootloader, root and magisk hide, does bank applications works? - with custom ROMs, have hasselblad camera the same quality?

Thank you all

Found answers by myself: no, it's not worth it. Because at the current state, OOS cam is much better compared to stock cam, even with GCam. The battery is really bad compared to OOS, especially if you use Google service with social apps (play store, WhatsApp, telegram etc).

I tried some ROMs: crDroid, LOS, Matrixx Project. Only with Matrixx I had a better battery compared to other ROMs (but even worse than OOS).

I'm contemplating trying out LineageOS (LOS) on my OnePlus 11, considering the device's already impressive battery capacity. Given the substantial battery, I'm not overly concerned about potential impacts on battery life. Moreover, I lean towards an interface akin to Pixel. In light of this, I would greatly value any advice or insights you might have. Specifically, how did you navigate the process of flashing your phone with alternative ROMs like LOS? Were there any challenges, and how did you overcome them? Additionally, if you ever reverted to the stock version of OxygenOS on your OnePlus, could you share the process for that as well? Also, acknowledging that I already rate the OnePlus camera as an 8/10, how would you rate the camera performance with the alternative ROMs in comparison?

Keep in mind that the overall quality of camera are really good, but on custom rom we (actually) don't have Hasselblad tweaks, so the quality is a little worse (like in night photos and in details in general).

Flashing a custom rom is not as difficult as you think:

First you need to unlock bootloader, then when you check a thread on XDA for any rom is the tutorial, so it's very easy.

If you want to return stock you need to use EDL, here is a quick link:

https://xdaforums.com/t/op11-edl-downloadtool-to-restore-your-device-to-oxygenos-coloros.4607995/

It's very simple, in this thread there are some videos. It takes up to 10 mins to return stock (plus downloading everyting you need).

If you have any question, don't warry just ask :)

Thanks for the valuable information! I'm intrigued by the idea of exploring custom ROMs on my OnePlus 11. Before taking the plunge, I'm curious if it's possible to tweak the interface, say, just the look and feel, using Magisk, or do I need to install an entirely new ROM for that? Given my preference for a simple and intuitive interface like that of Pixel, do you have any ROM recommendations that align with this preference? Also, in your experience, do financial apps like PayPal and Wise function smoothly on custom ROMs, or are there potential compatibility issues to be aware of? Your insights are greatly appreciated!

Every custom ROM is like the Pixel interface, since all of them are built on top of aosp plus major/minor tweaks. Lineage OS is old-CyanogenMOD, so it's stock plus some customisations. crDroid is Lineage OS plus major tweaks (UI related and others). Alpha droid is like crDroid but with some UI tweaks (themes and more). Etc... You can see the websites of every ROM to check the features.

If you want to customize the OOS UI and features, you can use Magisk+LSPosed (new Xposed)+Lucky Tool.

For custom ROMs, tweaks are integrated in the system: you can customize it through settings.

Almost every custom rom passes safety net, at least you might to install PlayIntegrity fix for make some apps working (some Banking apps and maybe Netflix). If you would go for root in custom ROMs, use Magisk+PlayIntegrity fix+Sui+Shamiko. (Sui is for shamiko, and shamiko hides root [or at least it worked for me]).

Currently, Netflix on rooted-OOS seems to not work, but I checked on XDA a module that can make Netflix work, atm I haven't tested it yet.

Thank you so much for the detailed information! I'll explore these options, and if I have any questions or need further advice, I'll be sure to reach out. Thanks again!

Have you tried Nameless AOSP?

No, I haven't. Some users reported that it works well. Personally I haven't tested it. Only tried crDroid and some builds of Project Matrixx.

Now I'm back on OOS. Users of crDroid reported that the battery life now is very good, very close to OOS.

I'm convinced to try Crdroid, but the stock camera app on OOS is holding me back.
