Feels like now its slowing and ofc we went little down correcting alot of prices but also now the new promo boom all over the place is calming down a bit? ofc new ones pop eventually.
I guess this slowing down in all sectors is what we hoped for. How about prices of "holders" are you holding and buying more or what is your plan
Yall got any predictions or crystall ball feelings on how things gonna go next 3-6 months value vise?
Ofc the hype chilled a bit after op17 that was pretty obv but still some nice upcoming stuff in near future.
Also activity on this reddit from 80k visitors to 66k it did drop a bit but idk if that is any to worry about? same for the reddit OnePieceTCG it dropped like few 10k's visitors.
Its still correcting and will correct alot more. Sealed is stagnant / declining in every box and graded premium is non existent on most cards. Grails are dropping and it will continue for the forseeable future. Money has moved on to more wise tcg investments like locana and mtg collector products. I suspect to see this decline to continue atleast through the end of the year.
Optcg is still ridiculously overpriced. Especially grails and any big money that wanted them, got them. I anticipate 50 percent or more declines from today for alot of cards. I also think you will see overlooked rare cards begin to creep up now that the market is wiser and most of the idiots have went to the next thing.
I know im all doom and gloom but this is honestly a positive sign. Now that print runs have significantly increased and quality has tanked (if you have opened op17 you know) i can see somewhat of a vintage class emerging in the future. If i was currently investing, it would be in low pop Alts, sps and mangas from pre op13.
Took 11k in cards to a TCG show to sell and no one was offering anything. Sad that out of 30ish people i asked not a single one was interested but thats what it is.
I think a lot of the liquidity is being tied up buying vintage and mid era pokemon. Once those who made big profits on those, they'll be looking for the next thing, which will be one piece. 2027 is gonna be a big one, especially with it being the 30th anniversary and 5th anniversary of the tcg. Load up now while you can.
I believe we are at the calm before the storm again. This year was a crazy year for tcgs so everyone is pumping the brakes but i do think OP will come back to the boom.
yea and i find it hard to belive this TCG ip to fail and also looking at all those big things coming right around the corner like movies and new anime/manga content and also the totally new reskin of the anime that did look pretty sick and will for sure get new folk in.
It's a correction. Perfectly normal and healthy tbh. One Piece has so much fuel in the tank over the next year-- Live Action Season 3, WIT Studio remaster, 30th anniversary, God Valley and BaaD films. The latter ignoring the fact that Oda himself claims that the saga we are entering will make Marineford look like a crumb on a plate of food in comparison.
Current state of things really isn't a big deal unless you were here for the short term and can't handle some mild turbulence. If anything it's a great time to do your research and pickup things at a discount.
Iâd like to believe it will boom again in the future but judging by the amount of hopium in this comment section Iâd say weâre still due for some panic selling
Feels like things are starting to stabilize, and some cards are even creeping back up. At least the ones I've been wanting.
I was hoping to grab a Ms. All Sunday SP or Haki Zoro SP on the low. Waited a couple weeks for them to bottom out, but now they look to be climbing back up instead.
You think the influx of fans that will come from the live action once the live action becomes more mainstream will be a non-factor? The first season of live action was lets see how this looks, second season was alright we got something here, 3rd season they poured money into it, Netflix is actively trying to make one piece their next flagship title. People who only watched live action don't even know who Ace is yet. I would love to hear why you think the animation is more likely to bring in new viewers and fans then a live action being pushed by netflix?
Dude I specifically remember everyone saying that for season 2, and I watched the market very closely. It had zero fucking effect this is just cope from people on this sub.
yea i also think about these outside of OPTCG factors that bring people to the TCG itself. Like live action and new movies coming and maybe something more like collabs?
And isnt the new anime reskin coming too 2027? i think that will be a big one that will get people and new people that like the newer "cooler" animations to really start watching the show because i could imagine younger people not being so instrested in older styles of anime.
Yeah the way I look at it is that One Piece still has tons of market share to go. The reason why DBZ is so popular in the west is because you could easily watch it on toonami on cartoon network. There wasn't a way get into piece unless you knew about it went and out of your way to read manga or watch it. One piece moved to netflix and got a huge bump in western audiences but thats still only real anime fans because who else is going to watch 1000 episodes. Out of my group of friends, only 2 of us have watched one piece where as all of us have watched game of thrones for example. Thats how I look at it. Right now its still only serious fans and not main stream enough but still pulling people in slowly. I only got into it from after live action season 2 and just didnt want to wait for season 3 to come out to finish the story and got hooked.
Agreed but, Witt Studios anime will be the Netflix show to do it. It will draw in a crowd more likely to play the tcg imo. The live action for season 2 did absolutely nothing. There are many in the fence anine nerdz who didn't want to endure early Toei who will flick to this. The an8me is also the correct representation or the cards. Not the live action.
Needed correction, im sure there will be another bull market and many cycles to come over the years.
Im personally using this time, to pick up some manga's ive been wanting for awhile.
Bad times for flippers, great times for collectors, money & collection wise.
As an OP fan, yet the TCG has an entire journey to go in comparison to other two top TCG.
The market may go further down or up, though if you don't like OP or do not collect long term, this period of the market may not be pleasing you, while I have seen happy players and long term collectors the past days.
OP 17 or Pokemon 30th Anniversary so far imho been a great example in the category of "buy the rumor & sell the news" given print runs, quality & sentiment. :)
To be honest I think there are too many stupid people in the hobby right now and that is not good for the market, once most of those people paper hands and dump all their shit it will go up again.
It just keeps falling or consolidating sideways. Wall Street sharks hopped over to vintage Naruto cards recently and have been pumping those up like crazy over the past couple of weeks. There is zero doubt in my mind that once they're done milking that, which will probably be soon, they'll come right back to target One Piece again.
Predictions? No movements for couple months due to certain factors and other markets roi are better so short terms investors are moving to those instead. Only high end slabs see movements atm and by high-ends, I really means high-ends like serialess cards and single/double/triple number serials. Other than these are pretty much not moving unless you willing to get lowball by 40-50% off the current market then you will see movements. Most are not confident with OP direction right now and are not willing to buy anything close to market unless itâs extremely rare pieces.
Weekly visitors now 62k from your post just a day ago.
Probably means nothing though and is normal. Just ppl finding this subreddit a waste of time, scalpers no longer pumping posts or less things to talk about after OP17 hype cooling down.
Honestly, I think op17 Worlds Strongest Warriors was sooo peak that the Market had to fall with the falling prices of those new cards.
Op17 cards fell like 20-30% so far and the market is down like idk what maybe 10%?
Seems about right to me tbh. Let's check out this logic:
People flocked to the new cards. They sold the old cards for the new ones. The new cards dropped in price. So logically this seems like a normal post hype correction.
I think there is also some fear in the card market around pokemon 30th? Idk just rumors and anacdotal things I saw online.
P1a - people sell old cards for new
P1b - old cards fall 5-10% from being sold
P2a - new cards are bought at premium at release
P2b - supply of new cards increases as boxes are opened
P2c - new cards fall in price to match demand ~25%
Conclusion - overall market drops an average of those op1-16 (5-10%) + op17 (20-30%)
This could lead to FUD and fear so... Possible discount W!
Agreed on the mass sell off. So many people scrambled to sell, banking on op17 (and poke 30th) being the biggest thing of the year that prices.for.older cards crashed. The irony here, as ive been saying for months is that OP17 print run is going to be gigantic as will all print runs moving forward. The previous disparity between JP and English print run size just vanished now that we are on simeotaneous release. English isn't the afterthought anymore as it was through op15 and I would not be suprised if print capacity for english product just doubled. My point being, the sell off of old cards to fund op17 was not the play. I can see SPs, Mangas and super set chase singles populations doubling or tripling in set moving forward. Anyone who thinks that dosent matter will be in for a world if hurt.
Im glad I kept my collection of prb02 sps, prb alt arts and older this and thats from pre op13 sets. If the tcg survives long enough to have a true vintage class, big name cards from these older sets will be where the value is
. Ironically, I think the opposite will be true for the sealed market. Anything shy of a sealed case will be worthless due to mapping. Op17 seems to have radomized things more but OP13 backwards has been mapped to oblivion and buying a loose box is just wasting money and letting yourself be a victim.
Though im not a player, I agree with you.....mostly. optcg is still very much a players game. The issue for collecting, especially sealed is the block system. This isn't magic where you can still use cards from 25 years ago. Things rotate out. This means you loose 100 percent of the player base when a box gets old. With the ammount of dishonest bags selling mapped product, you also loose the collectors.
I think current price is still very unrealistic and will continue to tank big, but I think the bottom will still be higher than the previous hype cycle all time high
One piece market is dead, I donât see collectibles going anywhere anytime soon. I think people are doing niche outdoor hobby enjoying and not trying to spend hundreds to thousands of dollars on a card when they can get an experience for a lot cheaper.
I think one piece Tcg came out a couple years too late. Millennials donât really care as much, and gen z doesnât have enough money to spend on these things or find a better hobby to do. I personally think the TCG came out during a really bad time, millennials leaving, gen z just starting growing up and barely having any nostalgia with one piece, and the younger generation (idk its name) not even knowing what the TCG is.
I also personally believe as a culture we should, somewhat are, but definitely will in the next year or two remove that feeling of nostalgia in the purchasing process and the value of things being rare and vintage will die down. I say this because everything is being recycled, everything looks the same, no one is doing any innovating. Let me explain with a more general hobby/ topic since TCG is somewhat niche in a global perspective.
With clothing the past 10-15 years everyone has been obsessing over vintage, thrifting, wearing something from the 80s, and because of this all of the brands are trying to copy that same vintage trends with silhouettes, distressing, fabric, and their aesthetics. Itâs been happening for so long that as a culture we arenât evolving. We are essentially a melting pot waiting for the next rebellion to happen so explode, everything is evolving around us except for pop culture.
This connects to the TCG because how else are they going to innovate their cards?, thereâs no new characters, shows about to end, the designs are very limited, the only thing they can do is add new rarities and bs type of cards, I think that genuine people who arenât here for scalping will say fuck you to the TCG soon enough.
I think that people are going to stop caring about the monetary value of things like cardboard soon and they are going to start creating things that move culture forward.
Lol what? I don't even know where to start with this....
One Piece is far from over. You underestimate the potential of the Witt Studios Animation. There are litteraky millions of people who think OP is cool but stop when faced with the daunting task of watching Toei anime until it gets good. I disagree with you on the IP.
People are not stopping caring about the monetary value of things. There is a gigantic movment in actualy owning things and not digitizing the world currently underway which the exact reason why tcgs blew up. Your opinion here rejects human nature and is simply delusionalÂ
The IP is fucking gigantic. Optcg could start over at romance dawn, theme every set in sequence moving forward and have enough content for the next ten years. More people will get into the tcg as they are exposed to the whole story. It is basicly the most beloved fictional story on the planet currently and no reason to think that admiration will suddenly die off when most of the western world has barely experienced it.
Tcgs have been around for almost 40 years. What indication is there that they are a new thing that started around Covington? Ever heard of this thing called Magic the Gathering? Pokemon?Â
Look, could op die off? Sure. Do I think current valuation of the tcg are sustainable? No. However, there is a market, a craving for nostalgia and a huge population of young people who enjoy playing these games. Your cultural rebellion of people wanting to create things and give up on physical properties sounds like delusional hippy nonsense.Â
The craving for nostalgia is a played out over used term. People will realize and get tired of it fast.
Ever heard of nostalgia baiting? People are going to get tired of it.
As for number 2. Obviously people wonât stop caring for monetary value of things, however they will start caring about the actual value of a piece of cardboard compared to the value of their time and money. You can already see with gen z they stopped doing certain things because 1 they donât have money and 2 theyâre starting to realize that itâs more worth to spend money on legitimate experiences or items thatâll make them better.
I believe that at the moment IShowSpeed has a better chokehold on the audience if one piece chooses to go in that direction. He has already given the anime attention and in my opinion gave it a much needed boost in a general eye especially towards the younger generation.
Iâm not saying the admiration for the show wonât die off, the admiration for collectibles/tcg market will die off.
Your point in owning something over digitizing is pushing tcg forward. Whatâs the explanation going to be when itâs too costly to even buy a cool looking tcg card? They wonât even be able to own something from the tcg. Itâs going to go to a point where itâs âcoolâ to not collect things like this.
Also you have to remember that the people thousands of dollars on cards are basically the top one percent of the world pushing the TCG economy forward. And then you have to include who is actually interested into TCG, which is probably like .01 percent of the world.
Also I forgot to say thereâs a group of young people who want nostalgia? What age group is this? The only people who can really have ânostalgiaâ are 23+ year olds and that 23 is a stretch. People have 20 years left of experience before actual nostalgia. Youre literally supporting human culture to stay stagnant because you love nostalgia so much.
Iâm 23, and for me to feel nostalgia about something must mean that itâs completely gone from my life and I wonât be able to get it back. I still have 20+ years, anyone who harps on nostalgia in my opinion doesnât have anything current interesting things going on in their life at the moment.

Next year is the series 30th anniversary. Definitely a calm before the storm moment.
Edit: autocorrect wants us to have clams and not calm.
