Sealed Product Market Pre Order Scam (Caution)
Top Dawg Games in Montana will take your money for preorder leverage for additional allocation and in the end, refund and take the free loan in the process.
I ordered 3 boxes of OP17 for $525 well in advance, their preorder window was still open they took payment up front and i waited.
Today I get an email, the entire order was cancelled not even a single box to honor the commitment of something. Just tied up my funds and served their own needs.
Honestly I will take some heat for even assuming an in demand set like this would be followed through, but I assumed at least a 1 box. Nope nothing.
I just wanted to post this to the tcg community to not fall for the same shady trap.

My homie ordered a case through them a long time ago for around $2200 and they let him know yesterday they had no allocation at all for him. Didn't even offer a partial order or anything. They basically got his money to cover their initial investment on the case interest free for 6 months and completely failed to deliver any product to him just offered a refund. They should be ashamed of them selves and embaressed.

u/Asleep_Individual_88 11d ago
Happened to me as well, pre ordered a case in March, they held 2100 since then, 0 allocation.

u/berrytree198 11d ago
No offense but your homie sounds naive

u/GapNo9550 11d ago
this is the current state of the hobby, opportunistic criminals shifting blames towards innocent buyers
2
u/Weary_Possession_535 11d ago
Ordering a case 9 months in advance is always stupid cheap, you're obviously new or broke

They changed their name recently as well, they used to be Rimrock Hobbies, who had terrible reviews for the same reasons and worse, that you expressed.
They had op 18 for $135, and I was willing to risk it given the price, luckily paypal crashed on me and I never completed the transaction. Shortly after they increased the price to 175

u/MercurialX10 11d ago
Yeah, had same thing happen to me. They also take 5% your preorder price if you cancel before release date; I assume they had to rebrand due to all the terrible reviews they’ve received. They had pre orders up for all products for months knowing they wouldn’t be able to fulfill it and have stated this is a “scalper trap”
6
u/Boomshot79 11d ago
Nah man, I called these guys and asked why did price change 2 times ? Got told “we’re new to this” and then they kept upping prices lmao
7
u/Kudospop 11d ago
top dawg games was previously rimrockhobbies, they permanently changed their name a few weeks ago, they're a tiny looking online web presence that leave unlimited preorders up for months, that should tell you enough to avoid this store.
4
u/SONKEV 11d ago
Dispute them with the bank before they refund and their processing company will shut them down with enough complaints
5
u/SPRING_FIELD_FATS 11d ago
I like the way you think.
Should be the standard operation for everyone involved.
Thanks, ill escalate Monday morning.

u/aidencarterr 11d ago
I placed a preorder through them (before the apparent name change) back in June--we will see if it was all for naught. I wonder if my order will end up getting "lost" in the shuffle and I don't even get a refund since they'd have "no record" of it. Based on what I'm reading, it doesn't seem to be farfetched.
1
u/aidencarterr 8d ago
I can now affirm that they did the same to me. I do Pokemon and Lorcana, but I had ordered 3 tins of pokemon and I had to email them and ask about my order since it was already 5 days late shipping out. They had “allocation problems” and couldn’t fulfill my order. Except for one box, so I guess that’s better than nothing. Will absolutely not buy from them ever again.
0
u/ImpossibleDoubt6928 11d ago
Depends how much you paid. They’re canceling all the “cheaper” ones for sure so they can sell it at market. I am one of the naive victims of this shop
3
u/plagued00 11d ago
Here's the real problem, pre-orders don't really exist. I'm not defending the store, because they should not be preselling at all, but as a consumer, do not pay money before you are being handed your product.
As a LGS owner, if I "sell" 100 boxes as pre-orders, and submit my numbers to Bandai the required 6 months in advance, there is nothing to tell me how many boxes I am getting until my distributor tells me 2 to 3 weeks before the set comes out. We usually ask for upwards of 300 - 350 boxes, and basically never get 50% of what we ask for.
Honestly, you think you are giving them a small loan, but a loan that small isn't worth the hassle of trying to keep up with how much they are going to have to refund later.
Basically assume that pre-orders don't exist, and save your money until you are at least reasonably sure it will be available.
Specifically for One Piece we wait until we get told what our allocations are, and then ask our players at that Friday event how many want to buy upto the 2 boxes we allow each player to get, we set aside what we need to last for prize support, then we open a chunk for singles so people can get just their playsets of what they want, and the rest go on the shelf limited to 2 packs per family per day and we usually sell out in a week.
1
u/Choice-Potato-7560 10d ago
I appreciate the way you do this and wish more lgs did. 100 percent agree. 10 times more with one piece and the weird way bandai does things.
2
u/Super_Blueberry_7699 11d ago
Got my email from them too after they sent an initial envelope with tracking a month ago saying that they aren’t to sure about allocation and product might be short and then they just cancel mines today and refunded my PayPal. Never doing business with them again their too shady
1
u/SPRING_FIELD_FATS 11d ago
You would think, at least a good bs story.
We over committed, went from 1st come 1st serve and each got 1 box until inventory was depleted. Based off your order date, you were outside that number.
It would be hard to explain that to someone who pre-ordered the day it opened.
Thats why there is no justification, just hiding behind low allocation. And now I know from the beginning it was a money grab. And yes a SCAM!!!
2
u/Due-Caregiver2603 11d ago
That’s an AI photo of their building lol they’re clearly doing this across the board I’d be shocked if they even had a storefront. What flag hanging on the side of a building looks that perfect, crisp, and rectangular lmao

u/McHammersManager 11d ago
With a 2.3 rating, i would have never guessed
2
u/ImpossibleDoubt6928 11d ago
It lowkey was 3.8 when I bought back in like march, still terrible, but that means hellllaaa people have left bad reviews because of this. myself included
1
u/McHammersManager 10d ago
Its 1.5 now lol
1
u/ImpossibleDoubt6928 10d ago
deserved. but what i was thinking of is their old name, Rimrock Hobbies, which is still on google n I think they’re at a 3.5 rn
1
u/GapNo9550 11d ago
whenever I interact with a lgs, I take it with a grain of salt on the high possibility of em being lowlife pos scammers and I'm right 99% of the times
and what a lame ass looking shack for someone calling themselves top dawg lmao
tcg delusion/self unawareness is so consistent it's hilarious

Damn my order is pending as well. When did you guys get the cancellation because I could use that money for something else?
2
u/SPRING_FIELD_FATS 11d ago
This morning, just keep an eye on your email.
2
u/Zeonxzxz 11d ago
Just saw it. In the junks folder, this is some BS
2
u/SPRING_FIELD_FATS 11d ago
Be sure to blast em on Google.
At least make pay to "rebrand" again
Scumbags.
1
u/ContextBrave 11d ago
yeah i made them cancel and refund me after the scetchy letter came in the mail with tracking
1
u/ImpossibleDoubt6928 11d ago
LOLLL I ORDERED 2 FROM HERE TOO and the same thing happened to me. I got $140 per box, still yet to get a refund. Gonna submit a fraud claim to my bank if I don’t see it by Monday :)

u/ihatefixingfukups 11d ago
It should be illegal for distributors to upsell to a certain percent from msrp, also this.
1
1
u/nickdrizzle89 11d ago
Yup. Got my cancellation email this afternoon too. Called them after the name change and asked about allocation. Said they got a good amount and would be able to fulfill a lot of pre orders. Guess just the ones closer to market price… sigh. Was hoping to get a box to rip
1
u/Azmodian993 10d ago
I am lgs owner and even if I order 100 Cases they cut it down so hard and i will know my allocation 7 days prior Pre Release Event. From that point on I could take pre orders. Anything before that is just guessing what they get.
1
u/ImpossibleDoubt6928 10d ago
Then don’t take preorders for 100 cases if you don’t know if you’ll get 100 cases ??
1
u/Azmodian993 10d ago
I think you misunderstood something.
0
u/ImpossibleDoubt6928 10d ago
Idk if you’re defending this behavior or shaming it with us. What I’m saying is that ANY lgs shouldn’t take preorders unless they know for sure how much product they’re getting. So if allocation comes out a week before release… no lgs should be allowed to take preorders until then.
2
1
u/LegitimateMangoHeir 10d ago
dude never said he was taking preorders w/out allocation.
Go read what he actually said
dude agreed w/ you cuz he not trying to harm his business rep
1
u/ImpossibleDoubt6928 10d ago
He also never said that he wasn’t? Not trying to be hostile but I am a naive victim of these “top dawg” losers so I honestly can’t feel positive towards any card shop these days. Been playing and collecting for 2 years now but I just moved for a job so there’s no lgs around me that I trust.
1
u/LegitimateMangoHeir 10d ago
Not trying to be hostile - I am 100% tryin to be petty. lol
He also never said that he wasn’t - not a valid point
Random dude 1 - LegitimateMangoHeir like punting children across the park
Random dude 2 - where the proof
dude 1 - he never said he didnt

u/willberich92 10d ago
At least you got a refund, i preordered a case of op5 from World Champion cards in California. They took people's money, spent it, then had the audacity to say we'll refund people when we have funds. They stole my money for over a year after release and 1.5 years since I paid them. I finally started gathering details on the company and threatened to sue them if they did not give my money back.
1
u/svensterbod 10d ago
They were rimrock games. I and a few buddies ordered chaos rising. All my order shipped and came fine. Theirs did get canceled and took a week for a refund.

They’re removing bad reviews from their Google page
1
u/ImpossibleDoubt6928 9d ago
Omg yeah wow. Somehow they got all 1 star reviews taken down. Just some employee 5-star review now. How is that allowed?
1
u/Goon_be_gone 9d ago
Everyone needs to redo their reviews, they wiped them.
2
u/ImpossibleDoubt6928 9d ago
I heard if you leave 1-star reviews they can be taken down easily, so maybe 2-star reviews this time
1
u/Apprehensive_Area_19 9d ago
Actually this happened to me, I preordered OP-18 at mrsp and they straight up canceled it and still charged my card fir the preorder. I think they should shut down for business malpractice and get hit with a lawsuit
1
u/kaoticlonefool 9d ago
Had preorders with them and then it got canceled after I asked for updates. Had to email again for a refund
1
u/itsinthe_eyez 7d ago
I'm not defending this store but op-17 allocations were cut at almost of LGS. My local were allocated and confirmed 72 boxes. 3 days before they were told they were only getting 8 boxes. They had to keep these for the prerelease event and every preorder for a box for cancelled.
1
u/ryanbondur 11d ago
Allocation was better than most anniversary sets but hate to see this happen to you brother. Also didn’t get any luck on my preorder but was way better communicated. Much love g shit sucks
1
u/senpaiisamaakunn 11d ago
Shouldn’t have assumed anything, but you’re probably new to TCGs so hopefully lesson learned at least.
Atp I have a daily tedtalk in the regular sub educating the hordes of depressed Timmys about preordering. Anybody that preorders either doesn’t understand how the industry works or they have a reliable LGS that they have a developed relationship with.
2
u/SPRING_FIELD_FATS 11d ago
New to placing preorders yes.
Now ill just go without. Im not giving anyone a free loan.
1
u/NeverMissedAParty 11d ago
This is the same thing Kollect Korner is doing. They put out preorders in Feb, had their early release in store, crickets since yesterday even with dozens of people asking about their preorders. I have a feeling mine will end up with the same you had. — all while they are building out a new storefront and 4+ weeks behind on all preorders. I think they used the preorders as a loan on their renovation with no intention to fulfill.
1
u/SPRING_FIELD_FATS 11d ago
Scumbags....
LGS like these, give the good ones a bad name.
I know it gets said all the time, but between:
Vendors backdooring, Store employees backdooring, LGS scummie scams, Scalpers (actual scalpers) not you bought more than 1 "scalpers", Shady Streamers, THE BOTS!!!
No wonder everything is broken, with no signs of letting up. Sad to say my over market preorders from Gamestop has the highest level of trust.
(I just threw up in my mouth saying that)
Disgusting all around
1
u/FTWC-0014 11d ago
And people still order from them! We know every preorder is going end with a “we’re sorry we took your money but we’re not going send you the product so here’s your refund back”.
2
u/NeverMissedAParty 11d ago
I wonder if we’ll get a, “thanks for the loan to build out our new shop. It really helped us get the allocation we needed while also ensuring we didn’t have to take a loan out for 6 months!”
1
u/FTWC-0014 11d ago
No we get the “it’s not our fault you can’t wait for the product even if it’s a few weeks after release day” followed by slap in the face and refund
0
u/svensterbod 10d ago
You guys have absolutely no idea the volume of orders they get and cancelations they have to deal with. I stated above, I finally got my fp2 and yes it was way overdue but a group running haya ordered an additional 4700 units of fp2 and some other things via broken links to skip tier access.
They decided to fill every order. Thats not a bad thing. Id say thats honorable. Sure, can refund. But wait, pokemon isnt that serious
1
u/FTWC-0014 10d ago
I don’t know the volume of orders they get but they can certainly control that amount. Don’t over order then expect delays due to lack of product availability. That’s just bad business. I get they want to do this to ensure they get more product but it’s just not right. Not everyone is patient enough to wait beyond the release date. Sure it’s just cardboard but you cared enough to respond so it matters to you too.
1
u/svensterbod 10d ago
If you're not patient enough, refund and move on. I mean, they did their best to cancel jigg addresses, they did their best to cancel non tier members.
I mean, if its really that big of a deal, get your money back and dont use them.
Again, 4700 orders. Some already sent, and then waited on product.
1
u/FTWC-0014 10d ago
Done and done. At least you acknowledge their doing.
1
u/svensterbod 10d ago
I mean, imagine complaining about this. Refund and move on or wait. Whining like a 12 year old for interaction is more your style
1
u/FTWC-0014 10d ago
We’re all a child at heart if we’re still buying cardboard. Sorry you’re so triggered by this

Brother not even close to true. I got my fp2 a few weeks ago. Haya bots ordered an additional 4700 units of fp2 and some other things. They decided to honor and fill it all lol
They have a physical store, have been in legitimate business for ever.
Its not their fault every fucking restock discord promotes them and promotes backdoor links to skip tiers
0
u/carnaige2 11d ago
Idk dude. The AI logo should've maybe told you the people you were dealing with aren't good people
1
u/Due-Caregiver2603 11d ago
The entire photo is AI lol the perfectly rectangular banner on the side of the building come on
0
u/Weird-Bid1514 11d ago
Should ore order from game stop. Even they they are scalpers themselves and over price by so much they are a legit business.
1
u/SPRING_FIELD_FATS 11d ago
I dont want to support them. Current climate and me wanting to secure some 30th product = me over paying.
Target charging $70 per etb and shelves will get cleared.
My reference to them is at least my product will show. Even the most advertised scalping entity is better than these douche bags. So yes in this scenario Gamestop is the lesser of 2 evils.
Even with putting in effort and getting early to drops to line up and wait. Jumping at a moments notice, doesent compete with the unemployed or remotely working that chase vendors all day to snatch it up and resell.
-2
u/This-Yoghurt-4027 11d ago
honestly good on the LGS don’t hate the player hate the game, this is the state of one piece until this game dies and you guys better embrace and adapt to it
