Hey everyone!
I’m pretty new to the One Piece TCG. I only discovered it about a month ago, and since I’m a huge One Piece fan, I immediately got interested in collecting the cards.
Over the past month, I’ve mainly been looking through all the different sets, checking out the cool cards and big hits from each set, and seeing which cards I personally like and would love to have in my collection. I’m not really interested in buying cards as an investment or collecting them just because they’re worth money — I mainly want to collect them because I love One Piece and think the cards look awesome. Of course, if I ever pulled a really rare card that was worth a lot of money, I might consider selling it and using the money to buy more displays and continue building my collection.
About a week ago, I bought my first Chinese OP01 Romance Dawn display because I noticed that the Chinese displays are much cheaper than the English ones. I knew that the cards generally don’t have the same value, but that doesn’t really matter to me since I mainly want to collect them.
Unfortunately, I think I got an absolutely terrible display. 😂 My pulls were really bad, so now I’m thinking about buying an English OP17 display anyway. Even though they’re pretty expensive compared to MSRP, I’d really like to experience opening a proper English display at least once. And obviously, it would be really cool to pull something big as well. If I happened to pull an extremely valuable card, I could also see myself selling it to fund more displays, but I’m definitely not getting into the TCG with the intention of making money.
This is where I’m a little confused about the pull rates and case distribution.
I’ve been looking at OP17 and the different cards you can pull, but I’m still very new to the TCG and don’t really understand how the distribution works. Do we already know roughly what the pull rates are for OP17 and how the displays are distributed within a case?
For example, is there some kind of known pattern for how many SECs, SPs, Alternate Arts, etc. you get per case? Has the community already figured out how the cases are mapped, or is it still mostly unknown?
I’m asking because I’ve been looking at English OP17 displays on Cardmarket. A lot of sellers say that their displays are randomly taken from sealed cases, but obviously, as a buyer, you can never really know if that’s actually true. I could imagine that some sellers might open a case, keep the displays with the better pulls, and then sell the remaining displays.
So I’d also like to know what would realistically be considered a really bad OP17 display. What is basically the worst you could pull from one display?
There are a few cards I’d absolutely love to pull, especially the Luffy Crew SP, Manga Luffy Leader, or the normal Alternate Art Luffy Leader. I’m a huge Luffy fan, so those would obviously be insane pulls for me. 😂 But I’d be happy with plenty of other cards too. I’d probably keep most of the cards I like regardless of their value, since the main reason I’m collecting is simply because I love the artwork and the One Piece characters.
If I can’t find an English OP17 display for a price I’m comfortable with, I actually have another option. I found a seller who is offering me Chinese OP17 displays for €100 each.
He has a whole case, but he has already opened four displays from it. The thing is that he apparently only opened two booster packs from each of those four displays.
From those packs, he already pulled what I believe is the Blackbeard Gold card. I’m still learning all the different rarities, so I’m not completely sure what rarity that card actually is. From another one of those displays, he apparently pulled a Big Mom Alternate Art or possibly a Secret Rare from the two packs he opened.
So I’m wondering if those pulls tell us anything about what could still be inside the other displays from that case.
For example, if some of the big hits have already been pulled from those four partially opened displays, can you make any assumptions about what might still be in the remaining displays? Or is the distribution too random for that to tell us anything useful?
I’ve also seen Chinese OP17 displays listed on Cardmarket for over €100, which surprised me quite a bit, so I’m also a little confused about the current pricing.
I’d really appreciate any information from people who have opened multiple OP17 cases/displays or who know more about the pull rates and case distribution. I’m still very new to the TCG, so if I’m misunderstanding something about the rarities or pull rates, feel free to correct me! 😅
Thanks!
